EP3: The Magic Number

This is the Fairview, TN News from Sept 25 – Oct 1 2025.

Howdy

Welcome to Episode 3 (Magic Number Jingle) of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.  This is a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire.  Local Radio stations don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.  This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive.  This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, almost 18 years ago.

Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know.  You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value.  Some shows will be longer, and others will be shorter, but I will do my best to keep things relevant.

Traffic Time

Cumberland and 100 are still cooking, which can still add 5-15 minutes when passing through there. This is the right time to relocate some utilities in preparation for the widening and installation of turn lanes at that intersection, which will continue for another year or so.

New Pavement is should be wrapped for 2025, so if you got some be thankful and we will wait till 2026 spring to see what else is coming.

Highway 100 at City Center – There will still be some construction closures here and there as the drainage, roads, and sidewalks are prepared.

Future Projects – Sidewalks from Fairview Rec Center to Bowie Park (TDOT State Project 94013-2220-14 (2220 Right of Way, 3220 Construction) July 21st 2026

The Bills

I wanted to do the same thing for TN political news, but a lot of the information is difficult to search because you need to know the text of the bill or the bill number.  I’m able to see the schedule of some of the committees. I still need to call the clerk before the next show to determine how to locate the bills that are coming up for a vote so that I can provide a quick weekly update on their status.

Here is what we have for this week.

Oct 1st

9:00 AM  CST

Senate

Senate State and Local Government Subcommittee

Agenda

How’s the hill, weather report

Back to it, How’s the hill?  Passable, we have got some rain and some storms since last week.  The weather guessers say this week is still looking to be with highs in the mid 80s with lows in the high 50s to 60s. Not a lot of rain is forecasted, so we need to cut our grass a little longer.

New Businesses

Papa John’s had its ribbon-cutting ceremony this weekend, and Goldstein Insurance Agency had its grand opening a couple of days ago, too.  There is still an open slot at Bowie Commons at Publix.  Other than that, I spotted nothing new this week, and I'm waiting to see what else is coming.

Tractor Supply Co, Always watch to see what food truck is there.

Special this week Hattie B’s was at Food Saver yesterday so hopefully they will come back.

Make sure to head to the Farmers Market every Saturday Morning  8AM to 12PM (Not Earlier as other posts have posted) at Meseck Chiropractor and Fairview Fresh Deli for their life-changing Apple Fritters, located down the road from Publix.  So many good places to get fresh breads and treats, local fruits and vegetables, along with some beef, pork, hot sauce, fishing lures, and other holiday gifts this time of the year.

History Nugget

In addition to the Village, Fairview features several historical markers that commemorate significant events and figures in the area’s history. Notable markers include:

  • The Caney Fork Furnace, located at 7544 Caney Fork Road, is a historic iron furnace built in 1832 by Moses Speer. It represents the easternmost site of Tennessee’s 19th-century iron industry, which peaked in the 1850s. Today, the remaining stone stack stands as Williamson County’s sole remnant of this once-prominent industry and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Faith Moment

Wisdom In The Wilderness | 1 Samuel 25 | Paston Ian Gilchrist

This has been a great series at our church about the life of David, and it’s a lot more than what the Amazon show talks about.  It has been great to learn so much, and I think this part of the sermon was an excellent summary that could also bring you up to speed on the greatness of King David.

1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:08,840
Howdy, and welcome to episode three, the magic number of Hello Fairview, your local podcast

2
00:00:08,840 --> 00:00:12,700
made right here in Fairview for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.

3
00:00:12,860 --> 00:00:18,040
This is a weekly show released every Wednesday featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire

4
00:00:18,040 --> 00:00:22,120
local radio stations don't exist in small towns like ours.

5
00:00:22,120 --> 00:00:27,440
So we're going to use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview and

6
00:00:27,440 --> 00:00:32,300
things that you care about. This is a value for value podcast, which means you contribute what

7
00:00:32,300 --> 00:00:35,980
you can based on the value you receive. Did you learn something? Was it something cool?

8
00:00:36,420 --> 00:00:41,020
This concept was founded by the podfather himself, Adam Curry, and his co-host John C.

9
00:00:41,080 --> 00:00:47,040
Dvorak of the No Agenda Show almost 18 years ago. Currently, this is just a one-man operation,

10
00:00:47,180 --> 00:00:53,500
so you have any ideas or events or business opportunities, job openings, or other news.

11
00:00:53,500 --> 00:00:59,540
don't hesitate to reach out and just let us know you are a producer of this show you are not the

12
00:00:59,540 --> 00:01:05,900
product you're not being sold to by some advertiser because your time and attention are important

13
00:01:05,900 --> 00:01:10,780
right and some shows will be longer than others and some will be shorter but i'll do my best to

14
00:01:10,780 --> 00:01:18,440
always keep things weekly relevant traffic time cumberland 100 are still cooking which means uh

15
00:01:18,440 --> 00:01:23,420
that intersection and that construction is adding anywhere from five to 20 minutes to most people

16
00:01:23,420 --> 00:01:28,980
commute either side of the city. And it looks like that's actually going on for a lot longer.

17
00:01:29,260 --> 00:01:33,920
I talked to TDOT today and was trying to find some information, but it's July of 2026.

18
00:01:34,160 --> 00:01:41,420
So we have a whole nother school year almost to deal with this. All the new pavement should be

19
00:01:41,420 --> 00:01:46,800
done for 2025. So if you've got new pavement, you should be thankful because there won't be

20
00:01:46,800 --> 00:01:52,060
any new pavement probably till the beginning of the new year. Highway 100 and city center,

21
00:01:52,060 --> 00:02:03,040
There still continues to be traffic blockages there as they keep getting the entrance to the new city center subdivision near town center built up.

22
00:02:03,340 --> 00:02:04,760
So that's going to be there.

23
00:02:05,060 --> 00:02:11,140
And there's a future project, which is the sidewalks from the Fairview Rec Center to Bowie Park.

24
00:02:11,140 --> 00:02:23,940
uh that's t dot project 94013-220-14 uh which it took forever to even find that it's not even

25
00:02:23,940 --> 00:02:27,600
searchable on their website really really annoying but hopefully we'll find out more about that

26
00:02:27,600 --> 00:02:34,360
and so we're going through there next segment here we're growing so there was no new town

27
00:02:34,360 --> 00:02:40,040
meetings since last show um and so everything is basically the same the public notice

28
00:02:40,040 --> 00:02:45,540
hearings are going to happen tomorrow night on the 2nd, October 2nd. So be sure to check out the

29
00:02:45,540 --> 00:02:49,700
YouTube channel if you want to watch them or if you actually want to go, then physically go.

30
00:02:49,700 --> 00:02:56,040
You can always find them at City of Fairview TN on YouTube and you can always check the calendar

31
00:02:56,040 --> 00:03:02,260
on their website. So there's no zoning appeals board coming up, no meetings scheduled for October

32
00:03:02,260 --> 00:03:08,840
so far. Planning Commission has a meeting on October 14th at 7 p.m., but there's no agendas

33
00:03:08,840 --> 00:03:13,920
yet. We'll see the agenda usually a week or so before. But the meeting that is happening tomorrow

34
00:03:13,920 --> 00:03:20,760
is the Board of Commissioners week at 7 p.m. tomorrow. This is going to have for old business,

35
00:03:20,900 --> 00:03:25,540
they're going to have the second and final reading of the budget amendment that they have,

36
00:03:25,540 --> 00:03:33,060
ordinance 2025-19, which is $22,000 from cleaning and crossing guard pay going to the public's work

37
00:03:33,060 --> 00:03:37,440
salary. So I've never been able to find details of the exact, but we're going to find out tomorrow,

38
00:03:37,440 --> 00:03:45,960
I'm sure. Um, the second and final reading for 2025, 16, which is Boone street is, which is 17

39
00:03:45,960 --> 00:03:54,100
acres going from RS 40 to RS eight, uh, second and final reading to 2025, 18 rezoning of old

40
00:03:54,100 --> 00:04:00,460
Cox Pike, uh, 53 acres from RS 40 to RS 20. I did see that posted on fair view then. And now,

41
00:04:00,460 --> 00:04:04,740
um, because it's going to be a lot of houses can get stuffed in that 53 acres.

42
00:04:04,740 --> 00:04:10,820
and that's down the road from where I live and that will make traffic even crazier when you try

43
00:04:10,820 --> 00:04:14,760
to make a left or right turn on that road it's going to start looking like mini 100.

44
00:04:16,160 --> 00:04:25,960
Resolution 5225 is the annexation of Fairview Boulevard which is 111 acres as RS40 so they

45
00:04:25,960 --> 00:04:32,340
want to become part of the city for that and then 53 resolution 5325 is old Franklin Road

46
00:04:32,340 --> 00:04:40,380
10 acres are coming in to RS 40. October 16th is the other Board of Commissioners meeting,

47
00:04:40,600 --> 00:04:48,640
and no agenda set for that yet. So new business as part of that is Ordinance 2025-20, which is

48
00:04:48,640 --> 00:04:54,980
the Fairview Boulevard, west of Pinewood Road. There's 111 acres from RS 40 to RS 10. So they

49
00:04:54,980 --> 00:05:02,120
want to get into the business there. Ordinance 2025-21, Old Franklin Road and Nottingham

50
00:05:02,120 --> 00:05:08,780
Drive. There's 10 acres that want to go from RS40 to RS20. And then our ordinance for new business

51
00:05:08,780 --> 00:05:16,440
2025-22, which is 1550 Highway 96. There's seven acres there that are going to go from RS40

52
00:05:16,440 --> 00:05:22,720
to Industrial General. So they're going to be a business there. Parks and Recs have a meeting on

53
00:05:22,720 --> 00:05:26,960
October 6th at the Fairview Historic Village, which we talked about in our last episode,

54
00:05:26,960 --> 00:05:32,440
which is the Triangle School across from the rec center. Around Town Coffee for October is

55
00:05:32,440 --> 00:05:38,560
scheduled October 8th at 830. The location hasn't been put yet. And the next BOC Town Hall, which is

56
00:05:38,560 --> 00:05:44,320
always at the end of the month where you can go voice your opinions to the city leadership is

57
00:05:44,320 --> 00:05:52,220
October 30th at 7 p.m. And in the state of Tennessee, not in any specific order, still

58
00:05:52,220 --> 00:05:55,900
stuff going back and forth with the Memphis National Guard deployment is under scrutiny

59
00:05:55,900 --> 00:05:59,340
for constitutionality, just like some of the other cities.

60
00:05:59,460 --> 00:06:01,480
So we're not really sure how it's pan out last week.

61
00:06:01,540 --> 00:06:02,900
We thought they were going to be there this week,

62
00:06:02,920 --> 00:06:05,040
and this week I think we're going to think they're there next week.

63
00:06:05,080 --> 00:06:05,420
Who knows?

64
00:06:06,140 --> 00:06:10,500
Some of the NOAA budget cuts could affect some weather-related stations

65
00:06:10,500 --> 00:06:13,280
in Memphis, Knoxville, and Nashville.

66
00:06:13,800 --> 00:06:15,340
So we'll see how that all goes.

67
00:06:15,340 --> 00:06:17,060
And right now it's voting season,

68
00:06:17,200 --> 00:06:19,940
so if you haven't seen signs all over the place in the state of Tennessee

69
00:06:19,940 --> 00:06:23,880
or in Williamson County or in Fairview, it's on like Donkey Kong

70
00:06:23,880 --> 00:06:31,400
in that there's a special election going on this year, and it ends October 2nd for some of the early voting stuff.

71
00:06:32,220 --> 00:06:36,400
And October 7th is the election day for that special primary, right?

72
00:06:36,860 --> 00:06:43,060
And then Tuesday, December 2nd is the election day for the next special general one.

73
00:06:43,280 --> 00:06:48,600
So depending on what city or county you live in, but even in Fairview, you need to be at both of those,

74
00:06:49,040 --> 00:06:50,440
and there's early voting for that.

75
00:06:50,440 --> 00:06:55,380
The National Airport is still an absolute hot mess, like always, when it comes to traffic.

76
00:06:55,920 --> 00:07:02,380
The Music City Loop is still a hole that's getting a little digger, but not really much better.

77
00:07:03,460 --> 00:07:08,220
And on the bills segment, I wanted to do the same thing for Tennessee political news,

78
00:07:08,300 --> 00:07:10,660
is actually look up some of the bills and information.

79
00:07:11,280 --> 00:07:16,820
And it is not very easy, even with a login to the website.

80
00:07:17,380 --> 00:07:19,480
I guess it's being hidden for a reason.

81
00:07:19,480 --> 00:07:22,340
But October 1st today at 9 a.m.

82
00:07:22,340 --> 00:07:26,960
There was a Senate state and local government subcommittee that did have an agenda.

83
00:07:27,080 --> 00:07:33,420
But the agenda just literally said we're going to talk about stuff, basically, and the names of some of the people that we're going to talk.

84
00:07:33,500 --> 00:07:34,560
So not helpful at all.

85
00:07:35,080 --> 00:07:38,040
What bills are going to be passed in the state house or Senate?

86
00:07:38,440 --> 00:07:39,140
No clue.

87
00:07:39,500 --> 00:07:41,320
So we've got to get better at that.

88
00:07:41,920 --> 00:07:43,880
And I don't know how to make that more better.

89
00:07:44,700 --> 00:07:45,320
How's the Hill?

90
00:07:45,640 --> 00:07:46,940
It's the weather report, right?

91
00:07:46,940 --> 00:07:51,880
So we probably we did get some rain and the storms last week.

92
00:07:51,880 --> 00:07:52,580
So that was good.

93
00:07:52,580 --> 00:08:04,375
The weather guessers are saying that the next week is going to be in the mid 80s with the lows in the 50s to 60s Not a lot of rain forecasted so we might have to cut our grass a little bit longer

94
00:08:05,455 --> 00:08:12,155
New businesses. Papa John's had its ribbon cutting ceremony this weekend. Goldstein

95
00:08:12,155 --> 00:08:16,635
Insurance Agency also had its grand opening a couple days before that.

96
00:08:16,635 --> 00:08:25,355
there's still a slot open at Bowie Commons Publix and at the new place where Papa John's is there's

97
00:08:25,355 --> 00:08:30,135
two places there so there's three more businesses or four more businesses may be able to come here

98
00:08:30,135 --> 00:08:36,215
with our existing spaces so we'll have to see what keeps coming there main thing too is you know as

99
00:08:36,215 --> 00:08:40,815
you're driving around on 100 Tractor Supply Co always usually has a food truck each evening

100
00:08:40,815 --> 00:08:45,115
and sometimes a couple on the weekend so always check out there it's a good way to support some

101
00:08:45,115 --> 00:08:51,475
local businesses and get some different eats and even Hattie B's. I guess the, I guess we would say

102
00:08:51,475 --> 00:08:55,855
the most famous hot chicken place in middle Tennessee because of their locations was at

103
00:08:55,855 --> 00:08:59,255
food saver yesterday. So hopefully they're going to come back. That was a little test market.

104
00:08:59,695 --> 00:09:05,275
Hopefully some people got some hot chicken. Make sure to know that if you do get shut the clock up,

105
00:09:05,395 --> 00:09:11,855
it could be a more than 48 hour commitment for that chicken. And then always when it comes to

106
00:09:11,855 --> 00:09:16,015
businesses in our local area is make sure you check out the farmer's market every Saturday

107
00:09:16,015 --> 00:09:22,355
morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Not earlier, as other people have posted at Messick Chiropractic

108
00:09:22,355 --> 00:09:29,215
and Fairview Fresh Deli Donuts for some of those life-changing fritters, which is down the road

109
00:09:29,215 --> 00:09:33,695
from Publix, if you didn't know. So there's lots of good places to get some fresh breads, treats,

110
00:09:33,895 --> 00:09:39,515
fruits and vegetables, beef, pork, hot sauce, fishing lures, holiday gifts, and all kinds of

111
00:09:39,515 --> 00:09:46,895
other random things this time of year. So we'll have some of that. Job openings, still the same

112
00:09:46,895 --> 00:09:50,975
as last week and the past three weeks, really. There's still a police officer opening for the

113
00:09:50,975 --> 00:09:56,195
city. There's still multiple positions at Walmart and they're still needing a cashier at the Jingo

114
00:09:56,195 --> 00:10:01,455
Market. If you have any news of any other local things, I'm sure there's probably some cool

115
00:10:01,455 --> 00:10:07,035
construction jobs and landscaping jobs and other things out here, but I just don't see them on

116
00:10:07,035 --> 00:10:11,635
Indeed or posting around or listing where I can find them. So if you've got a job opening and

117
00:10:11,635 --> 00:10:16,675
you're a business owner, just shoot a message on the contact form and let us know. And that way,

118
00:10:16,675 --> 00:10:22,115
we'll bring it up each week while it's still open. All right. For our weekly history nugget.

119
00:10:22,335 --> 00:10:28,735
So we talked about the Fairview Village last week. There's a couple other notable security

120
00:10:28,735 --> 00:10:33,975
markers around us. And so this time we're going to talk about the Caney Fork Furnace. This is

121
00:10:33,975 --> 00:10:42,835
located at 7544 Caney Fork Road. This is a historic iron furnace built in 1832 by Moses Spear.

122
00:10:43,395 --> 00:10:50,355
It represents the easternmost site of the Tennessean's known 19th century iron industry,

123
00:10:50,355 --> 00:10:56,995
which peaked in the 1850s. Today, the remaining stone stack stands as Williamson County's sole

124
00:10:56,995 --> 00:11:02,895
remnant of this once prominent industry and is listed as the National Register of Historic Places.

125
00:11:02,895 --> 00:11:07,915
this also if you've ever been to like cumberland caverns and they used to make salt peter there

126
00:11:07,915 --> 00:11:14,355
for gunpowder in the civil war pretty cool stuff there upcoming events nature fest was obviously

127
00:11:14,355 --> 00:11:20,115
a success great weather lots of people good stuff but this weekend down the holler if you want to go

128
00:11:20,115 --> 00:11:24,055
is the banana pudding festival october 4th and 5th at the ag pavilion in centerville

129
00:11:24,055 --> 00:11:29,415
so if you're going make sure you get your stretch before so you don't pull a hammy and get the

130
00:11:29,415 --> 00:11:33,455
stretchy pants so you can have a good time supporting all the local businesses and eating

131
00:11:33,455 --> 00:11:40,595
a lot of pudding too. High school, October 3rd, this Friday, the parade will be at 1230 starting

132
00:11:40,595 --> 00:11:44,895
at the city park. And I think it heads towards Sonic and turns around there. So if you're around,

133
00:11:44,995 --> 00:11:50,735
support your students, but also be ready for the traffic on Friday, October 3rd to be kind of a hot

134
00:11:50,735 --> 00:11:58,995
mess if you're going around downtown area. And then that same, the coming up weekend here on the

135
00:11:58,995 --> 00:12:06,255
fourth here is Brentwood. If you want to go to the vet fest, this is good for kids and that want to

136
00:12:06,255 --> 00:12:10,735
see some cool military stuff and also support our local veterans and local business around there.

137
00:12:10,735 --> 00:12:16,115
Our local Marine Corps leagues will be there along with some of the people that live here that

138
00:12:16,115 --> 00:12:22,235
do stuff for Quilts of Valor. So make sure and go say howdy to them. The city still has their fall

139
00:12:22,235 --> 00:12:27,255
fun day, which is a touch truck, some food trucks, and some games at Bowie Park on October 11th. So

140
00:12:27,255 --> 00:12:33,755
in a week. And that's also the 60th birthday for our mayor, Miss Lisa Anderson. In the city,

141
00:12:33,875 --> 00:12:40,915
we've got the trunk or treat at Bowie, October 25th at four to 6 PM and movie in the park after

142
00:12:40,915 --> 00:12:46,915
that, October 25th. This is always a cool one to drive around because you basically are in your car,

143
00:12:47,055 --> 00:12:51,015
you can drive around and pick up the stuff and they'll have all these different people set up

144
00:12:51,015 --> 00:12:56,155
and you'll get lots of candy. So if you live out in the county like me and not in the city

145
00:12:56,155 --> 00:13:01,255
where you can't really go trick-or-treating unless you go to a subdivision, this is a good way to fill up the candy.

146
00:13:02,775 --> 00:13:09,715
Dixon and their 2025 Veterans Parade will be Sunday, November 9th at downtown Dixon at 1 p.m.

147
00:13:10,755 --> 00:13:17,915
In our country news, November 10th, 2025 is the Marine Corps' 250th birthday.

148
00:13:17,915 --> 00:13:23,095
If you saw in the news earlier in the year, it was the Army's 250th birthday, too,

149
00:13:23,095 --> 00:13:27,735
where all those branches were created, you know, within a couple of years of each other,

150
00:13:27,835 --> 00:13:35,955
minus like Space Force. Franklin, Tennessee on November 11th, 2025 at 11 a.m. Perfect timing,

151
00:13:36,115 --> 00:13:42,055
whoever was the planner of that on Veterans Day at the Veterans Day time is when that parade is

152
00:13:42,055 --> 00:13:46,635
going to be there. So that'll be a good one to go to, too. At the city level, we've got the

153
00:13:46,635 --> 00:13:52,355
Christmas tree lighting on December 5th at 5 p.m. The Christmas parade, December 6th at 10 a.m.

154
00:13:53,095 --> 00:13:57,475
And, uh, then of course we talked about it before what our normal meetings are.

155
00:13:57,575 --> 00:14:03,515
We've got the board of commissioners, uh, October 2nd, tomorrow and 16th planning commission,

156
00:14:03,615 --> 00:14:10,555
October 14th parks and rec, October 6th, BOC town hall, October 30th and around town coffee

157
00:14:10,555 --> 00:14:12,095
is October 8th.

158
00:14:12,095 --> 00:14:16,015
Um, and we're still waiting on that location for that, but I think it always kind of fluctuates

159
00:14:16,015 --> 00:14:16,455
a little bit.

160
00:14:16,455 --> 00:14:24,935
then for the kids we still have a thriving set of all kinds of things your kids can do from scouts

161
00:14:24,935 --> 00:14:31,995
to gymnastics to dance to jiu-jitsu there's a lot of good wrestling programs a lot of good travel

162
00:14:31,995 --> 00:14:41,115
teams the Tennessee Titans youth program of cheerleading and football is huge here when they

163
00:14:41,115 --> 00:14:45,335
have a semi truck in the parade for Christmas you know there's a lot of them so they do some good

164
00:14:45,335 --> 00:14:51,295
stuff. So let's get to school news, Hawk and Tiger news. Uh, so if anybody has any other news that

165
00:14:51,295 --> 00:14:55,855
has kids in elementary school, please send them in so we can get on there. But right now we're

166
00:14:55,855 --> 00:15:01,115
just looking at the calendar. We can see that the Hawk walk is October 3rd. This has always been one

167
00:15:01,115 --> 00:15:05,755
of our favorite memories, uh, of our kids growing up here in Fairview, especially since that track

168
00:15:05,755 --> 00:15:12,375
has been built. That's made it very, very nice. Um, so that's a good one. And the Fairview tracker

169
00:15:12,375 --> 00:15:20,495
treat is October 16th and Westwood elementary has their tent or treat October 23rd, uh, six to

170
00:15:20,495 --> 00:15:25,635
seven 32. So both of them are having some of that. So if you've got kids there, that's definitely the

171
00:15:25,635 --> 00:15:29,695
highlight of the year for them to get to go hang out with some of their friends, see the wild

172
00:15:29,695 --> 00:15:35,395
costumes, get more candy. Um, so that means they at least get to get candy at their elementary school

173
00:15:35,395 --> 00:15:41,095
or some of the other schools and at Bowie park. Uh, and if they actually go trick or treating on

174
00:15:41,095 --> 00:15:46,915
halloween so that is a lot of candy prepare yourself falcon news uh 4-h is getting ready

175
00:15:46,915 --> 00:15:53,015
for their parent meeting still on october 13th miss hansen is the teacher of the week at fairview

176
00:15:53,015 --> 00:16:04,030
middle and she teaches theater class dj turner uh entered a contest and won and got to work and go live on 102 The Buzz so that pretty cool

177
00:16:04,650 --> 00:16:06,090
They're still working on their fundraiser

178
00:16:06,090 --> 00:16:08,630
for some of their classroom supplies, still at 50%.

179
00:16:08,630 --> 00:16:11,270
The Glow Dance is October 17th.

180
00:16:12,670 --> 00:16:15,430
If you want to buy your tickets early,

181
00:16:15,530 --> 00:16:16,430
you'll save a couple bucks.

182
00:16:17,190 --> 00:16:21,810
Today, October 1st, there is a volleyball WMAA tournament.

183
00:16:21,810 --> 00:16:24,890
It's the semifinal at 4 and 5 p.m. at home.

184
00:16:25,670 --> 00:16:30,390
Tomorrow on the 2nd, the volleyball team will have their championship here again at home.

185
00:16:30,830 --> 00:16:33,150
So hopefully they can make it to that and win.

186
00:16:33,830 --> 00:16:39,810
The football team will also be in a championship match against Legacy at Independence on the 6th.

187
00:16:41,090 --> 00:16:49,550
And the band and orchestra showcase is at 6 p.m. at home at that same one.

188
00:16:49,550 --> 00:17:04,330
On Saturday, there's a volleyball sectional tournament, and the middle school cross-country boys team will now compete at the state championship this upcoming weekend in Clarksville, Tennessee, along with one of the girls on the team who qualified as a top finishing position.

189
00:17:04,510 --> 00:17:08,570
I think it was the top 10 or 15 got to also go to the championship in Clarksville.

190
00:17:08,650 --> 00:17:13,850
So congratulations to those young men and the young lady that got on that.

191
00:17:13,970 --> 00:17:14,510
So that was great.

192
00:17:16,210 --> 00:17:16,870
Let's see.

193
00:17:16,870 --> 00:17:22,450
Then we've got FMS boys basketball tryouts are tonight from 630 to 8.

194
00:17:22,810 --> 00:17:27,190
And the middle school's basketball team is October 3rd from 3 to 4 p.m.

195
00:17:28,930 --> 00:17:32,190
October 21st is our winter sports picture day.

196
00:17:32,330 --> 00:17:36,070
And February 11th is our spring pictures day, if you really want to keep out there.

197
00:17:37,010 --> 00:17:42,010
October 13th, Scouts BSA will be at lunch talking about scouting for boys and girls.

198
00:17:42,530 --> 00:17:45,450
So your students may come home with something then.

199
00:17:45,450 --> 00:17:49,470
October 25th is their Halloween concert and fundraiser.

200
00:17:49,470 --> 00:17:53,610
So you will see some of that and the treat your boo, uh,

201
00:17:53,690 --> 00:17:55,270
promotion is going on.

202
00:17:55,330 --> 00:17:57,270
And I've got the link in the show notes, uh,

203
00:17:57,270 --> 00:18:01,570
where you can send a drink and a bag of candy to a faculty member or your kid

204
00:18:01,570 --> 00:18:04,510
at school. It's definitely kind of a cool thing to do. Uh,

205
00:18:04,510 --> 00:18:07,630
and it helps raise money for the PTO. So it's good stuff there.

206
00:18:08,450 --> 00:18:10,810
So we've got that. So in our jacket news,

207
00:18:10,930 --> 00:18:14,830
the homecoming dance was a hit this last weekend. They had a blast. Uh,

208
00:18:14,830 --> 00:18:19,270
we have a football game this Friday, October 3rd for homecoming against Sycamore.

209
00:18:19,790 --> 00:18:25,410
Um, the high school cross country team heads to Memphis this weekend, uh, on the fourth to get

210
00:18:25,410 --> 00:18:30,390
their run on. And always, always with both cross country teams, thanks to coach pet and coach

211
00:18:30,390 --> 00:18:36,450
Jessica for all the things you do. Uh, the annual pumpkin patch has started off and is running till

212
00:18:36,450 --> 00:18:42,610
October 31st and that's at apex bank and it's 9am to 9pm each day. And if you buy some pumpkins

213
00:18:42,610 --> 00:18:47,570
and things there that helps support the FHS athletic committee for upcoming activities.

214
00:18:48,810 --> 00:18:54,950
This week for homecoming, they had some fun outfits, which was meme Monday, Adam Sandler

215
00:18:54,950 --> 00:19:00,550
Tuesday, salad dressing day, which is today, which freshmen are blue cheese, sophomores

216
00:19:00,550 --> 00:19:05,950
are French, juniors are ranch because that's country people, and seniors are thousand islands.

217
00:19:06,090 --> 00:19:10,650
They have tropical stuff and Thursday will be your favorite Tim Burton character.

218
00:19:10,650 --> 00:19:14,270
So finally, Friday is Jacket Pride, right?

219
00:19:14,350 --> 00:19:18,950
So if you don't have a Fairview Jackets thing, you can go to the office and you can buy some.

220
00:19:19,030 --> 00:19:23,430
And then Walmart is your kind of 24-hour option if you need to go get some stuff between now and Friday.

221
00:19:23,730 --> 00:19:27,790
The float builds for some of those parades for homecoming is starting.

222
00:19:27,930 --> 00:19:29,370
Freshmen is Beetlejuice.

223
00:19:29,970 --> 00:19:31,690

224
00:19:31,970 --> 00:19:33,590
Juniors are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

225
00:19:34,090 --> 00:19:35,670
And seniors are Alice in Wonderland.

226
00:19:35,670 --> 00:19:47,130
And on top of that, Friday will also have food trucks there with Cano's, milkshakery, Xander's Pizza, Smash Sandwiches, Tom's Coffee, and of course, the Kona Ice Truck.

227
00:19:47,790 --> 00:19:53,850
So make sure you give your kids some extra lunch money on that day so they can have a fancy lunch instead of just rectangular pizza.

228
00:19:54,770 --> 00:19:58,550
Fall market is November 15th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

229
00:19:58,550 --> 00:20:03,550
This is a great place to do your Christmas shopping, just like our weekly farmer's market to support local businesses.

230
00:20:03,550 --> 00:20:11,990
the Fairview High Golf team finished in a three-way tie first place with Summertown and Hickman County

231
00:20:11,990 --> 00:20:16,750
in the District 12A Championship at Ross Creek on September 22nd.

232
00:20:16,890 --> 00:20:21,990
The ladies soccer team won the Mount Chapman Division of the Smoky Mountain Cup

233
00:20:21,990 --> 00:20:25,110
in a shutout 9-0 and 5-0 third year in a row.

234
00:20:25,250 --> 00:20:25,890
They're rocking it.

235
00:20:25,890 --> 00:20:34,410
then congratulations to the high school band because they got first place in music second

236
00:20:34,410 --> 00:20:40,330
place in color guard second place in percussion and first place in band overall at the sound of

237
00:20:40,330 --> 00:20:46,610

238
00:20:46,610 --> 00:20:54,110

239
00:20:54,110 --> 00:20:59,770
works from now until October 24th to be able to donate to people. The Spanish Honor Society is

240
00:20:59,770 --> 00:21:04,010
still rocking. So if your kid's taking Spanish and has a GPA three or higher, you're available

241
00:21:04,010 --> 00:21:11,110
for membership. It's that season. It's PSAT time will be administered on October 23rd. And now,

242
00:21:11,230 --> 00:21:17,490
apparently every Friday, Kona Ice and Tom's Coffee will be there at lunchtime. Senior portraits and

243
00:21:17,490 --> 00:21:25,790
senior ads are due by November 21st. And on October 18th, ACT is on there. So if you go to

244
00:21:25,790 --> 00:21:34,390
ACT.org, you can register. And October 21st is the ACT for seniors only. So definitely get your

245
00:21:34,390 --> 00:21:40,830
chance to do that. And they sent a new update of the traffic flow because as you know, if you do

246
00:21:40,830 --> 00:21:45,950
any car ride or anything, it is a hot mess every single day to be able to get in and out of there.

247
00:21:45,950 --> 00:21:50,890
so make sure you pay attention to that that'll be in the show notes and fall break for all these

248
00:21:50,890 --> 00:21:55,630
kids starts on october 4th for all students and we come back on the 13th which is columbus day

249
00:21:55,630 --> 00:22:02,290
no school on october 31st which is the first time i think i've seen that pretty interesting

250
00:22:02,290 --> 00:22:08,670
donations um none yet still trying to get the website payment things figured out i hope some

251
00:22:08,670 --> 00:22:13,530
business people will support this and help make it even better be a producer subscribe and share

252
00:22:13,530 --> 00:22:18,070
with others or that this podcast is out there in the news so that everyone in Fairview can catch up

253
00:22:18,070 --> 00:22:25,230
on this and go from there. And on our faith moment for today, sometimes during each one of these,

254
00:22:25,230 --> 00:22:31,910
we'll talk about the things that are relevant and coming through there that have kind of piqued my

255
00:22:31,910 --> 00:22:36,610
interest going to church and listening to stuff online and trying to always learn more because

256
00:22:36,610 --> 00:22:44,690
never stop. This one is Wisdom in the Wilderness, which is 1 Samuel 25, which is Pastor Ian Gilchrist

257
00:22:44,690 --> 00:22:50,870
from One Church Home here in Fairview. This has been a great series at our church that we've

258
00:22:50,870 --> 00:22:55,210
talked about the life of David, and it's a lot more than what the Amazon show talks about. So

259
00:22:55,210 --> 00:23:00,570
it's been great to learn so much, and I think this part of the sermon was an excellent summary of

260
00:23:00,570 --> 00:23:06,010
everything coming up to this, and so if it piques your interest to learn more about all how awesome

261
00:23:06,010 --> 00:23:11,130
King David was, then check it out. We've got the YouTube link there. And here's the audio for it.

262
00:23:11,730 --> 00:23:17,610
We've been in a journey with the book of, not the book of David, that's not a thing.

263
00:23:19,390 --> 00:23:28,150
The life of David. And it's been one of a lot of interest to me. There's been something powerful

264
00:23:28,150 --> 00:23:36,450
about taking time to just look at the life and what we would call the ministry of David,

265
00:23:36,570 --> 00:23:37,830
who would eventually be King David.

266
00:23:37,910 --> 00:23:39,710
We haven't actually got there in the story yet.

267
00:23:39,950 --> 00:23:46,290
But we've explored the foundations of David, looking at his early reign and the way,

268
00:23:46,670 --> 00:24:10,745
or his early life and his call and his anointing and the process he went through His victories over Goliath his exchange with Saul We seen David in his early years being formed We seen in the first week David anointing in obscurity how he was chosen

269
00:24:10,745 --> 00:24:19,905
by God and all the while forgotten by men. We took from that that God is a God that sees the heart

270
00:24:19,905 --> 00:24:22,445
and not the stature of a man.

271
00:24:22,505 --> 00:24:24,025
And that's where the calling began

272
00:24:24,025 --> 00:24:25,725
and the hidden place for David.

273
00:24:26,465 --> 00:24:29,065
In the second week, we looked at him as a worshiper

274
00:24:29,065 --> 00:24:32,425
and how he worshipped before he ever went to warfare,

275
00:24:32,665 --> 00:24:36,065
that it was through his intimate knowledge

276
00:24:36,065 --> 00:24:39,905
and experience with God that God gave him a place

277
00:24:39,905 --> 00:24:41,225
even in front of the king

278
00:24:41,225 --> 00:24:44,865
who was sitting on the throne he would eventually have.

279
00:24:45,745 --> 00:24:47,145
Before he ever fought a battle,

280
00:24:47,145 --> 00:24:55,885
David learned to minister in private, reminding us that spiritual depth precedes spiritual

281
00:24:55,885 --> 00:25:02,465
authority. That's a profound insight. We have to remember that if we ever want to walk in authority

282
00:25:02,465 --> 00:25:10,465
in spiritual ways, it's going to come from spiritual intimacy that precedes it. In the third week, we

283
00:25:10,465 --> 00:25:18,825
We stood in the valley with David and Goliath where he taught us that faith doesn't come from a crowd.

284
00:25:19,285 --> 00:25:23,385
But again, it comes from that communion and intimacy with God.

285
00:25:23,965 --> 00:25:26,605
And that the battle ultimately belongs to the Lord.

286
00:25:26,705 --> 00:25:38,705
We saw David do what no one else was willing to do courageously out of a holy and righteous, you might even say anger.

287
00:25:38,705 --> 00:25:41,765
take the head of Goliath

288
00:25:41,765 --> 00:25:44,605
where everyone thought he had no chance.

289
00:25:45,905 --> 00:25:47,245
In the fourth week,

290
00:25:47,365 --> 00:25:50,085
we continued to look at this story

291
00:25:50,085 --> 00:25:52,345
as we saw the tension growing

292
00:25:52,345 --> 00:25:54,525
between Saul and David.

293
00:25:55,465 --> 00:25:57,885
As the favor on David's life

294
00:25:57,885 --> 00:26:00,805
stirred up jealousy and opposition,

295
00:26:01,045 --> 00:26:04,065
we started seeing spears get tossed David's way

296
00:26:04,065 --> 00:26:07,545
from the guy who was supposed to be a mentor to David

297
00:26:07,545 --> 00:26:09,505
and had taken him under his wing.

298
00:26:10,485 --> 00:26:13,325
And yet we learn that when God promotes you,

299
00:26:13,965 --> 00:26:16,405
not everybody's gonna celebrate you,

300
00:26:17,065 --> 00:26:20,225
but you have to choose the high road anyways.

301
00:26:20,525 --> 00:26:23,945
David showed us a model of how to step back

302
00:26:23,945 --> 00:26:27,185
in the midst of it and not pick up the spear and respond.

303
00:26:28,025 --> 00:26:31,865
He takes this step back, and then we heard time and time again

304
00:26:31,865 --> 00:26:36,365
in the early stages of his life, David walked in wisdom.

305
00:26:36,365 --> 00:26:46,345
He chose wisely. Wisdom was just a resounding part of David's life. And so he didn't kill Saul.

306
00:26:46,485 --> 00:26:51,585
In fact, he didn't even engage. He backed up and got away and he went out on the run.

307
00:26:52,685 --> 00:27:01,625
And that leads to last week's message where we find David and Saul again in a cave in En Gedi

308
00:27:01,625 --> 00:27:06,405
where David is hiding out.

309
00:27:06,505 --> 00:27:07,425
He's on the run.

310
00:27:08,145 --> 00:27:09,865
They identify where he is,

311
00:27:09,865 --> 00:27:13,765
and Saul brings an army out to kill David.

312
00:27:14,705 --> 00:27:17,645
And David is hiding deep in a cave,

313
00:27:18,165 --> 00:27:22,185
and Saul, in God's sovereignty,

314
00:27:22,345 --> 00:27:25,525
just walks into the same cave David's in.

315
00:27:26,445 --> 00:27:29,145
David has the guys around him,

316
00:27:29,145 --> 00:27:32,125
And they say, look, he's delivered Saul to you.

317
00:27:32,685 --> 00:27:33,845
You should kill him.

318
00:27:34,885 --> 00:27:38,445
And all common sense here would say that makes a ton of sense.

319
00:27:38,525 --> 00:27:39,805
Go ahead and take him out.

320
00:27:39,925 --> 00:27:41,965
Like that's what he should do.

321
00:27:42,825 --> 00:27:44,845
David has the chance to take his life.

322
00:27:44,845 --> 00:27:48,125
And instead, he chose restraint.

323
00:27:49,585 --> 00:27:55,865
And we talked last week about how this is a moment where not every opportunity,

324
00:27:56,045 --> 00:27:58,585
not every good opportunity is a God opportunity.

325
00:27:58,585 --> 00:28:01,645
because we see here that God was testing David in the dark

326
00:28:01,645 --> 00:28:04,485
to see if he was ready to lead in the light.

327
00:28:06,085 --> 00:28:08,825
And that brings us to today.

328
00:28:10,045 --> 00:28:15,305
In week six, we're going to look at David still in the wilderness, right?

329
00:28:15,345 --> 00:28:17,645
Because after what happened last week in the cave,

330
00:28:17,785 --> 00:28:19,825
David says, hey, I'm going to sneak over there.

331
00:28:19,845 --> 00:28:23,225
I'm going to cut off a piece of his robe to show him I could kill him if I wanted to.

332
00:28:23,865 --> 00:28:25,965
And then he leaves.

333
00:28:26,325 --> 00:28:27,705
Saul goes out of the cave.

334
00:28:27,705 --> 00:28:30,485
David cries out to him and says, why are you chasing me?

335
00:28:30,545 --> 00:28:31,485
Why are you hunting me?

336
00:28:31,665 --> 00:28:33,285
If I wanted to, I could have killed you.

337
00:28:33,385 --> 00:28:34,365
Look at your thing.

338
00:28:34,425 --> 00:28:36,625
And it said he was grieved by what he had done.

339
00:28:37,785 --> 00:28:41,665
And Saul gives the appearance of forgiveness.

340
00:28:41,865 --> 00:28:43,425
He goes, oh, my gosh, you could have.

341
00:28:43,465 --> 00:28:44,465
You are the true leader.

342
00:28:44,545 --> 00:28:45,585
You are the true king.

343
00:28:46,005 --> 00:28:50,025
I mean, I'm bowing down like, just please don't kill my descendants.

344
00:28:50,425 --> 00:28:53,445
And in everything that was happening,

345
00:28:53,445 --> 00:28:57,765
it looked like David was now about to march back and take the throne.

346
00:28:59,165 --> 00:29:03,965
And David wisely understood this isn't how it's supposed to play out.

347
00:29:04,345 --> 00:29:05,845
So David didn't go with Saul.

348
00:29:05,965 --> 00:29:08,585
Instead, he stayed out in the wilderness.

349
00:29:11,205 --> 00:29:14,705
And we're going to see today, I think, a profound story

350
00:29:14,705 --> 00:29:20,005
about the continuation of how God is forming David in the wilderness.

351
00:29:20,965 --> 00:29:24,705
He's about to make a terrible mistake.

352
00:29:25,785 --> 00:29:28,365
Not on the battlefield, but in his heart.

353
00:29:29,565 --> 00:29:33,245
But once again, I think this is such a picture for us.

354
00:29:33,305 --> 00:29:35,745
This is a story I haven't heard talked about a lot.

355
00:29:36,565 --> 00:29:38,625
I haven't ever preached this before.

356
00:29:38,625 --> 00:29:47,785
But I think it is a profound example of grace, the power of God, empowering you to do what you're called to do.

357
00:29:47,785 --> 00:29:51,385
wisdom and humility.

358
00:29:52,505 --> 00:29:54,325
Because here's what we know.

359
00:29:54,405 --> 00:29:56,265
When we find ourselves in the wilderness,

360
00:29:56,985 --> 00:29:59,445
the wilderness will test your heart.

361
00:30:00,665 --> 00:30:03,325
Sometimes God sends wisdom to stop you

362
00:30:03,325 --> 00:30:07,685
before you make a mistake that could cost you your future.

363
00:30:08,905 --> 00:30:13,545
I want to draw your attention to 1 Samuel chapter 25.

364
00:30:13,545 --> 00:30:15,205
now

365
00:30:15,205 --> 00:30:18,365
I don't know why as a pastor

366
00:30:18,365 --> 00:30:20,205
I can't just cut off shorter

367
00:30:20,205 --> 00:30:22,265
sermon you know things I'm about to

368
00:30:22,265 --> 00:30:24,365
read you an entire chapter again

369
00:30:24,365 --> 00:30:28,305
it's just I'm going to stutter a little

370
00:30:28,305 --> 00:30:29,425
I'm sure so

371
00:30:29,425 --> 00:30:31,305
don't throw anything

372
00:30:31,305 --> 00:30:33,805
but bear with me

373
00:30:33,805 --> 00:30:35,645
it's like this is one of those things they say

374
00:30:35,645 --> 00:30:37,565
I didn't go to preaching school but

375
00:30:37,565 --> 00:30:40,405
I'm sure they tell you don't read this much

376
00:30:40,405 --> 00:30:42,445
like people will get bored but like you're adults

377
00:30:42,445 --> 00:30:43,265
and so

378
00:30:43,265 --> 00:30:50,745
I'm going to treat you like one. But listen to the story. This is such a, it's an obscure text.

379
00:30:50,745 --> 00:30:56,865
It's again, not talked about a lot, but listen to the content of what the word of God speaks.

380
00:30:58,105 --> 00:31:05,925
First Samuel 25, starting in verse one, then Samuel died.
