EP: 8 "All the Candy"
This is the Fairview, TN News from Oct 29th-Nov 5th 2025.
Howdy
Welcome to Episode 8 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas. This is a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire. Local Radio stations don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview. This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive. This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, over 18 years ago.
Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know. You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value. Some shows will be longer, others shorter, but I will do my best to keep things relevant.
Traffic Time
Normal Busy, Cumberland, and 100 have been better for sure. There will be more closures, and we will see how things go because they are not giving us a plan; they are just telling us about a week in advance, at most. There will likely be some more grading and drainage work to make the turn lane into Cumberland from 100, so we will see how those closures go throughout the week. They are having to build culverts on the East- and westbound sides to widen the road, along with some mini-bridges. You may have also seen some lane closures around the city as Middle TN Electric prepares for winter by trimming trees along all powerlines. It looks like Halloween didn’t cause any traffic backups, and in Castleberry, there were a lot fewer cars and trick-or-treaters.
Redlight Update – We currently still have three (Old Cox, Publix, & Walmart). Still, we will soon be getting one at the new City Center Entrance and at the Cumberland and 100 intersection when that expansion occurs. I’m not sure how it will help or hurt yet, but I hope the crossing guard can control it during the morning and evening school rush.
City Center – There will still be some construction closures here and there.
Future Projects – I still need to learn more about this project because I don't know what the costs of these sidewalks will be, and I want to understand whether it will be worth it when the dust settles and the road gets widened, only to have them torn up and replaced again. I know we are stuck in a loop where we are not big enough to expand.
We’re Growing
City News
Commissioner Update – The Health Department, which is open across from the Elementary school and has recently been renovated, is ready to help. They have a stock of vaccines if needed, as well as other medical services. Please go and check them out.
The Fairview Police Department Shop with A Cop Applications are still open. Applications can be picked up at the Fairview Police Department starting today, 8 am to 4 pm. Applications must be completed in full, along with the participant information form for each child, and returned no later than 4 pm on November 14th. We continue to give thanks to our community and local businesses for their support of this cause throughout the year through fundraising and donations. Donations can be made at any time as we continue preparing for this year’s and next year's programs. Donations can be dropped off at City Hall, the Police Department, or mailed to the City of Fairview, P.O. Box 69, Fairview, TN 37062.

The State of TN (Not In Order)
- Big election day across the US, with elections for some governors, congress members, propositions, and many other races.
- The government is still shut down, so things are getting wild at airports, and people needing SNAP food assistance are all over the US now. TN has been trying to help fund programs that feed people while the federal government is down.
- The Secretary of State found that 42 possible non-citizens voted in the state's 4.3 million votes in the 2024 election.
- No more new news spots in The National Guard is still doing things.
- December 2 will be the final special election for the 7th District US House Seat, with Aftyn Behn for the Democrats and Matt Van Epps for the Republicans, based on the primary results. More news of them going back and forth now for this potential seat in a couple of weeks.
- Cool Link to some of the Budget Hearings from yesterday. https://app.vidcast.io/playlists/f1584ab1-5ef0-4642-b355-8da88fbc5903
- Music City Loop is still digging a hole and drilling things.
- Airport released a video about a new Terminal Two, which will have around 70 more gates on 300 acres south of the airport and is scheduled to start around 2038. https://www.wsmv.com/2025/10/27/nashville-airport-announces-plans-double-size-with-new-terminal/
The Bill
Here is what we have for this week—nothing super cool or detailed, but the agenda for today was interesting, with all the companies taking part and what they do. I have heard of some of these, but many are new names, and it makes me wonder what's up with some of them, too, and how much money is being sent their way.

How’s the hill, weather report
Back to it, How’s the hill? Passable. Fall is rocking, but it is moving to below freezing real soon. With lows this weekend on Sunday and Monday in the 20s with highs in the 40s, you need to take off your hoses before the weekend freeze. Then they are guessing highs of the 60s with lows of the 40s the rest of the week.
New Businesses
Nothing New was spotted. Ace Hardware is still brewing. There is still an open slot at Publix in Bowie Commons. Other than that, I spotted nothing new this week, and I'm waiting to see what else is coming.
Farmers Market
Make sure to head to the Farmers Market every Saturday Morning, 8 AM to 12 PM (Not Earlier, as other posts have posted) at Meseck Chiropractor and Fairview Fresh Deli for their life-changing Apple Fritters, located down the road from Publix. So many good places to get local beef and pork, breads and treats, local fruits and vegetables, along with some hot sauce, fishing lures, and other holiday gifts this time of the year.
Brick and Mortar Highlight
MJ and Sons Wrecker Service
This is our local towing company, used by most people. I have had to use them a couple of times, and they are responsive and get the job done, that’s what you need when you need a tow. Their quote “Your go to choice for towing and recovery since 1989! You can call the rest but choose the best! That’s M.J. & SON Wrecker Service, trusted by families and businesses for over 35 years!”

Local Business Highlight
Doughy Duos
https://www.facebook.com/p/DoughyDuos-61557942869000/ https://www.instagram.com/doughyduos/?hl=en
This is another one of our regular local Farmers’ Market vendors. This mother-daughter team makes fresh Sourdough Breads, from plain to jalapeno cheese, that will take a grilled cheese to the next level. Their treats are also excellent, from their Chocolate Chip cookies to their specialty loaves, cinnamon rolls, and you never know what type of bread there will be, from Pumpkins to Mummies, just a week ago.

History Nugge
Vicksburg Road - Name Origin
During the Civil War, Vicksburg on the Mississippi River was a key battle that turned the tide of the war when the Confederate Army surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant on July 4, 1863. This was a vital link in the supply line between the North and the South. This victory also split the Confederate Army in half, which was the beginning of the end of the war.

Jacket News – The games against Waverly last week didn’t disappoint, with a 2-point conversion for the win in the last seconds of the game. Fairview won by scoring 15 points in the final 6 minutes, including a 2-point conversion with about 30 seconds left in the game. Final score Fairview 29, Waverly 28, and Fairview clinches a Region 6 Championship! November 6th is another championship game at home against Stratford at 7 PM, so be there—it could be the last game of the season or the 2nd-to-last if they win and keep going. Fairview is at Fairview (8-2) and Stratford (3-6) so wish them all the luck to get there. If you are not into Football and dig the theater, you can see the first showing of “Rumors” by Neil Simon at 7 PM on the 6th. The Pep Rally is on November 7th during the day, and at 7 pm is another showing of Rumors. Then this weekend, on the 8th at 2PM and 7PM, you can see the show again. This is the week the Fall market is on, November 15th, from 9 AM to 3 PM. This is a great place to do your Christmas shopping, just like our weekly only Farmers Market, to support local businesses. Every Friday this School year, Kona Ice and Tom’s Coffee will be there at lunchtime. Senior Portraits and Senior Ads are due by November 21, 2025. November 21st is Career Day. ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is scheduled for December 9th at 8 AM in the Learning Lab. If you are thinking about joining the military, this is a must-have, and this score will determine what jobs you can pick from at each branch. Looks like the High School bowling team is rolling with practices on Nov 13th and 20th, and you will be making some trips to Thunder Alley in Dickson to get your Roll on! Are you in 8th–12th grade and looking for a creative outlet this winter? Join us for an unforgettable season inspired by the hit Broadway musical Waitress! Tryout Dates: November 14th, 17th, and 21st, 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Regular Rehearsals: Mondays & Fridays, 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. No experience necessary—bring your energy and enthusiasm! Tryouts and rehearsals take place at Fairview High School. Faith Moment
If you have not heard of the Patriot Academy, I suggest learning more, especially if you have kids and want to raise them to be godly citizens. This is a sermon that Rick Green did at the Awaken Church and this talks about some of the founding of the country and this is just the first half but there are hours of content related to this.
Biblical Citizenship in America - Rick Green
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h968gqy4du4
Welcome back. If you want to learn more, I suggest going to Patriot Academy and go and track and Rick Green talks and learn more about the founding of our country and the values that were baked into our constitution and government and how we can make a better future. What they are doing with young people is amazing with mock halls of congress where they learn how things actually happen in government.
https://www.patriotacademy.com/
Another essential reference for Biblical Citizenship is the Founder’s Bible, which walks through the history of our nation and its founders and references the Bible. Want to see the letter that was first referenced in “Separation of Church and State” from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists that was used to prove that Christianity doesn’t belong in government. https://thefoundersbible.com/
The letter:

Donations
On the Donations front, nothing new from Fountain. We will have other payment options soon, just waiting for the tax man stuff to finish. We covered Fountain and Stripe Setup in the last episode, so a Donate button lets you use your Credit Card and other Payment methods through Stripe.
A monthly Supporter option is available for just $3.50. If you haven’t seen the website, please take a look. A lot has been added since last week, and I think you will find it helpful, including the calendar, Church and Business List, and more. We will announce your first name or business name if you become a monthly supporter or make a donation of $19.59 or more, unless you include a note stating not to be anonymous (e.g., 'The year we were incorporated'). I hope some business people will support this to make it even better! Be a producer, subscribe, and share with others about this Podcast to help get the news out to everyone in Fairview. I need to catch up on social media things to get the word out, but I’m trying to get the website and payments sorted first.
Thank You

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:07,440
Howdy, and welcome to episode eight of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here
2
00:00:07,440 --> 00:00:10,500
in Fairview for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.
3
00:00:10,640 --> 00:00:15,580
This is a weekly show released every Wednesday featuring stories that aim to inform and maybe
4
00:00:15,580 --> 00:00:16,200
even inspire.
5
00:00:16,800 --> 00:00:20,280
Local radio stations like this don't exist in small towns like ours anymore.
6
00:00:20,540 --> 00:00:24,620
We'll use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.
7
00:00:24,620 --> 00:00:29,360
This is a value for value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on what
8
00:00:29,360 --> 00:00:33,920
value received. This concept was founded by the podfather himself, Adam Curry, and his co-host,
9
00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:40,640
John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show over 18 years ago. Currently, this is just a one-man
10
00:00:40,640 --> 00:00:46,660
operation. And so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, job openings,
11
00:00:46,820 --> 00:00:51,040
please don't hesitate to let me know. You are the producer of this show. You are not the product
12
00:00:51,040 --> 00:00:55,900
because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value. Some shows are
13
00:00:55,900 --> 00:01:00,020
going to be longer than others some will be shorter but i'll do my best to keep things relevant
14
00:01:00,020 --> 00:01:08,720
um this is uh you know here we go all right traffic time it's the normal busy quimblin and
15
00:01:08,720 --> 00:01:13,860
100 have been a lot better for sure um there still continues to be closures here and there
16
00:01:13,860 --> 00:01:20,720
as they keep widening the road and having to big the culvert on 100 so we'll see how that goes t
17
00:01:20,720 --> 00:01:25,400
dot doesn't really give us that much notice of that officially there's not an official big plan
18
00:01:25,400 --> 00:01:30,700
that I've been able to find even after calling TDOT that shows any of the milestones or anything
19
00:01:30,700 --> 00:01:36,500
like that, but they're doing that. You may have also seen some lane closures throughout the city
20
00:01:36,500 --> 00:01:42,960
as Middle Tennessee Electric prepares for winter by trimming all the trees around power lines all
21
00:01:42,960 --> 00:01:47,740
around town. I even got blocked by them on two separate roads in the same day, but that is good,
22
00:01:47,840 --> 00:01:53,440
so hopefully that'll keep our power on if we get a good winter. Halloween related to traffic,
23
00:01:53,440 --> 00:01:55,380
It didn't really cause any major backups.
24
00:01:55,600 --> 00:02:00,540
Nothing really went red from there watching the Googles.
25
00:02:01,180 --> 00:02:07,420
And we were in Castleberry, and there was a lot fewer cars and trick-or-treaters, which was good in one sense.
26
00:02:07,620 --> 00:02:09,960
But there was also less houses doing stuff, too.
27
00:02:10,400 --> 00:02:15,900
I think we've maybe finally reached peak trunk-or-treating.
28
00:02:15,900 --> 00:02:21,600
and everybody was just had already wore their costume two, three, four times between the,
29
00:02:21,640 --> 00:02:23,940
you know, 20 plus they're around our little area.
30
00:02:24,420 --> 00:02:25,900
And that'll be what it'll be.
31
00:02:26,400 --> 00:02:28,140
We're growing city news.
32
00:02:28,140 --> 00:02:31,740
Yeah, the commissioner reached out and talked about the health department again,
33
00:02:31,820 --> 00:02:36,440
which is right across the elementary school recently was renovated and help.
34
00:02:36,540 --> 00:02:40,540
And they've got a stock of vaccines if needed, as well as other medical services.
35
00:02:40,540 --> 00:02:44,620
So please go check them out, especially if you're in need right now of any of that stuff.
36
00:02:44,620 --> 00:02:47,780
Fairview Police Department is still doing their shop with a cop.
37
00:02:48,380 --> 00:02:54,480
Applications are still open, and you can pick them up at the police department between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.,
38
00:02:54,480 --> 00:03:01,360
and everything must be completed and turned in for participants and child by November 14th at 4 p.m.
39
00:03:02,000 --> 00:03:06,640
So we continue to give thanks to our community and local businesses for their support throughout the year
40
00:03:06,640 --> 00:03:09,660
because these fundraising and donations and donations have done that.
41
00:03:09,660 --> 00:03:16,820
If you need to donate to the police department, you can mail that to the city of Fairview, P.O. Box 69 in Fairview, Tennessee.
42
00:03:17,420 --> 00:03:19,960
Real estate update related to We're Growing here.
43
00:03:20,420 --> 00:03:38,000
There's been eight property transfers here in Fairview, ranging from as little as $300,000 on Adams Preserve to $1.644 million at Bowie Meadows Phase 1, which is on Cox Run Drive.
44
00:03:38,000 --> 00:03:44,240
so there's definitely uh stuff moving around and the average price was around 500 and something
45
00:03:44,240 --> 00:03:53,140
thousand so there we go all right town meetings so uh right now there wasn't any board of zoning
46
00:03:53,140 --> 00:03:59,380
appeals no planning commission um other than the last one was 1014 which is 183 homes
47
00:03:59,380 --> 00:04:06,400
board of commission there is one meeting coming up tomorrow on november 6th at 7 p.m and the
48
00:04:06,400 --> 00:04:13,000
agenda was published the agenda is posted in the show notes but basically we've got some of the
49
00:04:13,000 --> 00:04:20,920
previous months planning commission stuff on here where we have 111 acres on pinewood road going
50
00:04:20,920 --> 00:04:27,820
from rs40 to rs10 this is the final second and final reading and the same thing on old franklin
51
00:04:27,820 --> 00:04:36,620
road 10 acres going from rs40 to r20 and then another one that was on there previously was on
52
00:04:36,620 --> 00:04:46,060
highway 96 rezoning 7.26 acres from rs40 to industrial general and that was planned to be
53
00:04:46,060 --> 00:04:53,340
a warehouse so that will be good new business for this upcoming meeting tomorrow is ordinance 2025
54
00:04:53,340 --> 00:05:05,400
523, which is 3.73 acres on Harrison Drive, moving from RS40 to RS10, and then 3.17 acres
55
00:05:05,400 --> 00:05:11,740
on Hall Road that is moving from RS40 to RS15.
56
00:05:11,960 --> 00:05:15,820
So a little bit bigger lots, 15,000 square foot versus 10,000.
57
00:05:16,820 --> 00:05:22,440
And there'll be some 2026 meeting date discussions as in which date they're going to put it on.
58
00:05:22,440 --> 00:05:24,760
and then there will be commissioner roundtable updates.
59
00:05:25,260 --> 00:05:28,420
So we'll look forward to seeing some of those because there's all kinds of good information
60
00:05:28,420 --> 00:05:29,560
sometimes sprinkled in those.
61
00:05:30,120 --> 00:05:34,620
Recap, we had a board of commissioner town hall in the previous meeting.
62
00:05:34,940 --> 00:05:36,440
That was on 1028.
63
00:05:36,860 --> 00:05:38,540
There was one public comment.
64
00:05:38,800 --> 00:05:43,200
She basically talked about the farmer's market and everything in between there.
65
00:05:43,780 --> 00:05:50,500
So that was good to hear and basically asking questions about what is going on with the
66
00:05:50,500 --> 00:05:52,260
farmer's market and when it's happening.
67
00:05:52,440 --> 00:05:53,680
Um, but we'll see that.
68
00:05:54,580 --> 00:05:57,880
And, uh, another gentleman talked about RS 40 and RS 10.
69
00:05:57,920 --> 00:06:02,480
And if it was going to do that and, uh, I put the rest of the stuff in the show notes.
70
00:06:02,480 --> 00:06:06,980
There was lots of good stuff there about some of the, uh, plays and things that are going
71
00:06:06,980 --> 00:06:09,120
on, uh, that are going on.
72
00:06:09,200 --> 00:06:13,540
And obviously some of the TPU DC things, some truck or treat stuff and everything in between
73
00:06:13,540 --> 00:06:13,800
there.
74
00:06:14,200 --> 00:06:17,820
Uh, but our next meeting planning commission meeting will be the 18th.
75
00:06:17,820 --> 00:06:19,840
No agenda has been posted yet for that.
76
00:06:20,840 --> 00:06:26,260
There's no new meetings for Board of Commissioners until November 6th, which is tomorrow and the 20th.
77
00:06:26,300 --> 00:06:27,400
And there's partial agendas.
78
00:06:27,540 --> 00:06:29,700
We have agendas for the sixth meeting, which we just went over.
79
00:06:29,980 --> 00:06:34,040
And then the town hall is on September 29th, 2026.
80
00:06:34,140 --> 00:06:35,100
That got moved out.
81
00:06:35,540 --> 00:06:39,820
November 3rd, we have the Park and Landscapes Board, which was this week.
82
00:06:39,860 --> 00:06:40,940
That was at Triangle School.
83
00:06:41,040 --> 00:06:42,840
There's no notes or anything recorded there.
84
00:06:42,960 --> 00:06:46,120
So I guess they're probably talking about the historic village, if I'm guessing.
85
00:06:46,120 --> 00:06:53,380
around town coffee is scheduled for next week november 12th at 7 p.m at the pearl so be there
86
00:06:53,380 --> 00:06:58,940
and then also on november 6th it is the beer board basically this only happens when someone
87
00:06:58,940 --> 00:07:08,120
actually applies so basically an off-premises beer permit which is the shell station at i-40
88
00:07:08,120 --> 00:07:13,780
and 96 at the red light is getting it and they had to also list what was interesting in the
89
00:07:13,780 --> 00:07:20,660
application if they're what the closest school church or daycare or nursery is which is loblolly
90
00:07:20,660 --> 00:07:27,220
preschool um an off-premise uh permit which means you can buy and sell beer that's consumed somewhere
91
00:07:27,220 --> 00:07:33,500
else unlike an on-premises uh permit which is where you can do it there and i posted the agenda
92
00:07:33,500 --> 00:07:39,780
stuff there state of tennessee obviously yesterday in november 4th 2025 was a big election day across
93
00:07:39,780 --> 00:07:44,980
the U.S. There were some governors, some Congress members, some propositions in many other races,
94
00:07:45,120 --> 00:07:51,780
especially state and local levels in many, many areas. So that happened there. The government is
95
00:07:51,780 --> 00:07:58,280
still shut down. So things are still getting wild at airports. The air traffic controllers calling
96
00:07:58,280 --> 00:08:06,120
in, TSA calling in as we head into beyond 30 days of the government shutdown. Tennessee has been
97
00:08:06,120 --> 00:08:11,820
trying to help with Bill Lee to fund some programs to feed some people while the government programs
98
00:08:11,820 --> 00:08:18,480
are down by helping donate money to food banks and some of the other organizations, some religious,
99
00:08:18,660 --> 00:08:24,820
some not, to help that happen. The Secretary of State released a report that they found 42
100
00:08:24,820 --> 00:08:33,420
possible non-citizens voted in the 2024 election out of the 4.3, so that's 0.0001%.
101
00:08:33,420 --> 00:08:40,120
no more news spots in memphis the national guard i guess is still doing things december 2nd is
102
00:08:40,120 --> 00:08:45,080
still going to be the special election for the 7th u.s district house seat which is us here in
103
00:08:45,080 --> 00:08:50,100
williamson county again with afton ben from the democrats and matt van epps from the republicans
104
00:08:50,100 --> 00:08:55,520
based on the primary results more news of them going back and forth and potential seats as we
105
00:08:55,520 --> 00:09:00,920
get closer there there was also a couple cool leaks from some budget hearings that i posted in
106
00:09:00,920 --> 00:09:05,520
here, which were just yesterday. So I did not have time to go through six hours of that.
107
00:09:05,940 --> 00:09:10,900
The Music City Loop, we're still digging and drilling things. They've purchased more land.
108
00:09:11,240 --> 00:09:16,640
Just like we talked about last week, the airport released a video about the Terminal 2,
109
00:09:16,960 --> 00:09:21,780
which will have 70 more gates and around 300 more acres. This is scheduled to start around 2038.
110
00:09:22,680 --> 00:09:29,520
In the bills, here's what we have this week. Nothing super detailed, but the agenda for today,
111
00:09:29,520 --> 00:09:37,160
which I could have watched live, with all the companies that are taking money and what they do.
112
00:09:38,100 --> 00:09:40,720
So I've heard some of these company names before.
113
00:09:41,060 --> 00:09:44,360
Some are new, but it also makes me wonder, and I can't find it,
114
00:09:45,060 --> 00:09:49,760
how much money is being sent to each one of these companies' way out of there.
115
00:09:50,000 --> 00:09:55,060
So if we go to correction for jails, Centurion of Tennessee, LLC,
116
00:09:55,060 --> 00:10:16,180
General Services, SSOE, Health Facilities Commission, Diversified Technologies, LLP and Health, Inductive Health Informatics, LLC, SA, Holdco, Infra, blah, blah, blah, Human Services, Alliance and Enterprise, Evident Change.
117
00:10:16,180 --> 00:10:18,160
That was all health-related companies.
118
00:10:18,700 --> 00:10:23,540
Secretary of State, Coughlin Companies, which is Capstone and Capstone Classroom,
119
00:10:24,220 --> 00:10:27,420
Dorger Software Architects Incorporated, Education.
120
00:10:27,840 --> 00:10:32,280
There was Cambion Assessment, NCS Pearson, Agriculture.
121
00:10:32,920 --> 00:10:38,000
There was MXI Environmental Services for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
122
00:10:38,680 --> 00:10:43,680
Beacon Technologies, which is part of TennCare, United Healthcare Community Plan,
123
00:10:43,680 --> 00:10:49,860
volunteer state health plan blue cross blue shield uh doing business as blue car blue care
124
00:10:49,860 --> 00:10:56,420
blue care tennessee sorry about that well point tennessee volunteer state uh health plan blue
125
00:10:56,420 --> 00:11:02,840
care tennessee 10 care select i guess a different business entity owns 10 care versus 10 care select
126
00:11:02,840 --> 00:11:11,240
optum rx council on affordable quality health care equifax workforce solutions keystone peer
127
00:11:11,240 --> 00:11:19,380
and Organization, LLC, KPMG, LLP, Mercer Health and Benefits, NTT, Data, State, and Health
128
00:11:19,380 --> 00:11:19,980
Consulting.
129
00:11:20,480 --> 00:11:25,960
So lots of agricultural and TennCare-related things.
130
00:11:26,560 --> 00:11:32,060
TennCare, obviously winning with the most things going on with over 10 companies, I guess,
131
00:11:32,140 --> 00:11:32,500
talking.
132
00:11:33,260 --> 00:11:38,220
And when it comes to that is then after that, November 13th, there is the State Building
133
00:11:38,220 --> 00:11:38,680
Commission.
134
00:11:38,680 --> 00:11:41,660
The agenda hasn't been posted for that, but we'll have to see how that is.
135
00:11:42,340 --> 00:11:43,520
Now to how's the hill.
136
00:11:44,320 --> 00:11:45,960
Well, it's definitely passable.
137
00:11:46,540 --> 00:11:50,400
Fall is rocking, but it's moving below freezing real soon.
138
00:11:50,880 --> 00:11:56,120
The lows this weekend are on Sunday and Monday expected to be in the 20s and the highs in the 40s.
139
00:11:56,140 --> 00:12:01,100
So you need to take your hose off your spigot before the weekend freeze gets here.
140
00:12:01,480 --> 00:12:06,160
Then they are also guessing highs of 60s and low of 40s for the rest of the week.
141
00:12:06,500 --> 00:12:07,800
So we'll have to see how that goes.
142
00:12:08,680 --> 00:12:10,080
New businesses.
143
00:12:10,860 --> 00:12:12,120
Nothing new spotted.
144
00:12:12,400 --> 00:12:15,800
Ace Hardware is definitely making a lot of progress across from Tractor Supply Co.
145
00:12:15,980 --> 00:12:20,800
There's still an open slot at Publix and Bowie Commons and Bowie Meadows.
146
00:12:21,320 --> 00:12:23,920
Other than that, I haven't spotted anything else new for there.
147
00:12:24,460 --> 00:12:25,140
Farmer's Market.
148
00:12:25,540 --> 00:12:31,800
We need to make sure we're heading there every Saturday morning and supporting some of our local businesses from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., not earlier.
149
00:12:31,800 --> 00:12:36,680
at Messick Chiropractic and Fairview Fresh Deli Donuts
150
00:12:36,680 --> 00:12:38,280
for their life-changing apple fritters
151
00:12:38,280 --> 00:12:40,660
and to get your back all fixed up at Messick,
152
00:12:41,260 --> 00:12:43,880
located down the road and across the street from Publix.
153
00:12:43,980 --> 00:12:46,760
So many good places for local beef and pork,
154
00:12:46,960 --> 00:12:48,840
breads and treats, local fruits and vegetables,
155
00:12:49,320 --> 00:12:51,060
along with some hot sauce, fishing lures,
156
00:12:51,200 --> 00:12:52,920
and a lot of holiday gifts this time of year.
157
00:12:52,920 --> 00:12:56,000
And I know you will also most likely see
158
00:12:56,000 --> 00:13:00,060
the Boy Scouts Troop 297 will be there
159
00:13:00,060 --> 00:13:01,620
to sell Christmas trees.
160
00:13:01,800 --> 00:13:14,516
later this year as we get closer Brick and mortar highlight So probably MJ and Sons Wrecker service this is our local towing company used by most people i used them a couple times and their responsiveness
161
00:13:14,516 --> 00:13:19,696
to get the job done uh has been awesome and that's really what you need in a tow truck company
162
00:13:19,696 --> 00:13:24,856
is you need them to show up when they say they're going to show up and uh take care of your vehicle
163
00:13:24,856 --> 00:13:30,876
as it's being towed and that's what they do and one of their quotes that i liked uh your go-to
164
00:13:30,876 --> 00:13:37,036
choice for towing and recovering, towing and recovery since 1989. You can call the rest,
165
00:13:37,036 --> 00:13:42,236
but you can, but you can't choose, you can choose the best with MJ son's record of service,
166
00:13:42,236 --> 00:13:48,016
trusted by families for over 35 years. Got a link to their website and to their Facebook page.
167
00:13:48,316 --> 00:13:54,576
And another local business highlight is another farmer's market attendee, doughy duos. This is
168
00:13:54,576 --> 00:13:58,996
another one of our great regular local farmer's market vendors is the mother daughter team that
169
00:13:58,996 --> 00:14:03,776
makes fresh sourdough breads from plain to jalapeno cheese. And if you make a grilled cheese
170
00:14:03,776 --> 00:14:08,556
with that, it will take it to the next level. Their treats are also excellent from chocolate
171
00:14:08,556 --> 00:14:12,996
chip cookies to their specialty loaves, cinnamon rolls, and you never know what type of bread it
172
00:14:12,996 --> 00:14:17,656
may be. It may be shaped like a pumpkin right now, and it was mummies about a week ago. So
173
00:14:17,656 --> 00:14:23,176
definitely check them out. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram. Job openings, still a good
174
00:14:23,176 --> 00:14:28,256
pile of job openings throughout the city. There's still an associate planner position opened,
175
00:14:28,256 --> 00:14:34,576
and the police officer. Walmart still has multiple positions, Cornerstone Financial Credit Union,
176
00:14:34,816 --> 00:14:40,656
Publix, Dunkin' Donuts, Boys and Girls Club, Subway, The Pearl, Taco Bell, Sonic, McDonald's,
177
00:14:40,716 --> 00:14:47,656
Tractor Supply Co., Marmon Holdings, Hardee's, and Destination Pet LLC. And if you have any other
178
00:14:47,656 --> 00:14:55,856
job postings, just let us know. Our history nugget for the day is the name origin of Vicksburg Road
179
00:14:55,856 --> 00:15:08,776
During the Civil War, Vicksburg on the Mississippi River was a key battle that turned into the side of the Civil War.
180
00:15:08,916 --> 00:15:10,076
There were the Confederate Army.
181
00:15:11,136 --> 00:15:20,696
When the Confederate Army surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant on July 4, 1863, this was a vital link in the supply chain from the north and south.
182
00:15:20,696 --> 00:15:25,576
This victory split the Confederate Army in half, which was the beginning of the end of the war.
183
00:15:25,576 --> 00:15:30,756
So that's where that comes from, is from the Battle of Vicksburg in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
184
00:15:31,716 --> 00:15:32,856
Upcoming events.
185
00:15:33,116 --> 00:15:33,756
Recap.
186
00:15:33,876 --> 00:15:35,276
Nothing really since last week.
187
00:15:35,736 --> 00:15:43,656
We have added a bunch of stuff to the calendar from the plays at FHS, FMS, and FHS.
188
00:15:44,636 --> 00:15:53,996
So some of the new events that are upcoming is this weekend, starting tomorrow, is the Fairview High School Rumors by Neil Simon.
189
00:15:53,996 --> 00:16:01,616
uh it's at 7 p.m and then on the 7th at 7 p.m and on the 8th it's a double header at 2 p.m and 7 p.m
190
00:16:01,616 --> 00:16:08,856
buoy park we've got uh november 6th if you're not wanting to go to the theater you can go there for
191
00:16:08,856 --> 00:16:15,576
some volunteer orientation earlier in the day from 10 to 11 uh november 8th there is at buoy there is
192
00:16:15,576 --> 00:16:20,976
the playground pop-up and dixon will have their christmas parade on november 9th starting downtown
193
00:16:20,976 --> 00:16:26,016
at 10 a.m. So if you're going to go there, Marine Corps birthday is next week, November 10th.
194
00:16:26,196 --> 00:16:31,976
This is their 250th birthday, just like the Army and the Navy earlier this year.
195
00:16:33,376 --> 00:16:38,636
Franklin, November 11th at 11 a.m. is the Veterans Day Parade. And I think there's also one in
196
00:16:38,636 --> 00:16:46,236
Nashville at the same time, too. On November 12th, 10 to 1130 and 1 to 230 is the Bowie Homeschool
197
00:16:46,236 --> 00:16:50,896
Mammals and Myths and Mammal Survival. It shows both of those full. But if you've got a
198
00:16:50,896 --> 00:16:55,356
kid that's at home school, make sure you're signing up for these things. There's a lot of
199
00:16:55,356 --> 00:17:00,976
really cool opportunities at the park. On November 13th, it's Kindness Rock Painting Day at Bowie
200
00:17:00,976 --> 00:17:09,056
Park. November 15th at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the fall market is at the high school. Great place to
201
00:17:09,056 --> 00:17:15,636
get some Christmas gifts that are local and customized. And November 15th, the same day,
202
00:17:15,636 --> 00:17:21,136
GraceWorks will also have the mobile food pantry from 8 to 10 a.m. or until food runs out.
203
00:17:21,256 --> 00:17:25,156
This is a great opportunity, especially with the government shutdown, to do that.
204
00:17:25,276 --> 00:17:29,636
And this is usually the meals that are themed to Thanksgiving meals.
205
00:17:29,836 --> 00:17:32,476
So you'll get the gravies and the taters and that kind of stuff.
206
00:17:33,736 --> 00:17:37,656
November 18th and 19th at Bowie is the Intro to Feeder Watch.
207
00:17:38,196 --> 00:17:41,596
November 21st, 1 to 2 p.m., is the Leaf Critter Craft.
208
00:17:42,416 --> 00:17:45,496
November 22nd at Bowie is the Bowie Book Club.
209
00:17:45,636 --> 00:17:52,876
November 24th from 12 to 3 p.m. is a volunteer opportunity called Cider and Service Day, which sounds like it probably is fun.
210
00:17:53,696 --> 00:17:55,536
And then we get into December.
211
00:17:55,696 --> 00:17:58,296
We have the Christmas tree lighting December 5th at 5 p.m.
212
00:17:58,416 --> 00:18:03,376
And we have the Christmas parade December 6th at 10 a.m.
213
00:18:03,936 --> 00:18:13,656
Then we have the Adams family from the Fairview Middle School on December 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, with 11th and 12th being at 6 p.m.
214
00:18:13,656 --> 00:18:19,756
and December 13th being a 2 and 6 p.m. and Sunday being a 2 p.m. showing.
215
00:18:20,256 --> 00:18:24,176
And the links to sign up and get tickets for that are in the show notes.
216
00:18:24,296 --> 00:18:26,776
So make sure you click on it and click around.
217
00:18:27,376 --> 00:18:32,336
For the kids, there's still a ton of activities and sports in Fairview to keep your kids engaged.
218
00:18:32,336 --> 00:18:36,756
There's some cheer programs, recreation teams for baseball, basketball, football, and others.
219
00:18:36,756 --> 00:18:43,756
There is also a thriving Girl Scout and Boy Scout and Scouts BSA program here in Fairview.
220
00:18:44,796 --> 00:18:47,516
There are many recreation and travel teams if you're looking for that.
221
00:18:47,636 --> 00:18:52,376
If you're a homeschooler, make sure you're always continuing to check out the Bowie Park schedule for the clubs that meet there.
222
00:18:53,256 --> 00:18:58,176
Lala's Dance Studio and Elevate Gymnastics and Cheer is rocking for that genre.
223
00:18:58,736 --> 00:19:04,496
There is also an excellent taekwondo and jujitsu place that teaches way more than just moves called Vigilance Martial Arts.
224
00:19:04,496 --> 00:19:10,276
We also have a great jacket wrestling program with some summer options right now.
225
00:19:10,796 --> 00:19:11,296
So that's good.
226
00:19:11,856 --> 00:19:12,576
School news.
227
00:19:13,096 --> 00:19:18,136
Well, first part of school news is no school November 24th to 28th for Thanksgiving.
228
00:19:18,396 --> 00:19:20,516
So make sure you make the trip and eat the food.
229
00:19:21,096 --> 00:19:22,316
Hawk and Tiger news.
230
00:19:22,436 --> 00:19:24,476
I have not seen anything new on there.
231
00:19:24,576 --> 00:19:32,096
I know they had their fun run last week at Westwood, which is kind of like the Hawk Walk for Fairview Elementary.
232
00:19:32,096 --> 00:19:33,576
So that went down.
233
00:19:33,576 --> 00:19:36,396
I know some high schoolers went over there to go have some fun with them.
234
00:19:37,156 --> 00:19:47,096
Falcon News, there's a fundraiser on November 18th called McTeacher Night at our local McDonald's from 4.30 to 7.30.
235
00:19:47,456 --> 00:19:56,216
15% of the food sales and 100% of Apple sales will go to the school, so that's really good.
236
00:19:56,216 --> 00:20:02,456
FMS PTO is also starting to sell 24 inch and 36 inch wreaths that you can pick up at Lala's
237
00:20:02,456 --> 00:20:08,416
dance studio on 12 one from five to seven 30 PM. And thank you Lala's dance studio, uh, for
238
00:20:08,416 --> 00:20:16,536
supporting our schools like that. The book fair is rocking, uh, this week for fourth, uh, for fifth,
239
00:20:16,756 --> 00:20:23,436
sixth and seventh graders, uh, or sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Uh, so they're rocking out
240
00:20:23,436 --> 00:20:25,436
and having fun there for each day.
241
00:20:25,676 --> 00:20:27,956
So make sure you send some book money over there.
242
00:20:28,896 --> 00:20:32,096
On the 4th, there was a wrestling match at Woodland
243
00:20:32,096 --> 00:20:34,516
and a home basketball team against Harpeth Middle School.
244
00:20:34,676 --> 00:20:36,956
I don't think I saw them post on the scores on that,
245
00:20:37,556 --> 00:20:39,236
and it didn't come in the newsletter.
246
00:20:39,436 --> 00:20:42,436
So on November 6th, there's the Honors Orchestra will perform
247
00:20:42,436 --> 00:20:45,716
a home basketball game against Columbia
248
00:20:45,716 --> 00:20:48,256
and a home wrestling match against Thompson Station.
249
00:20:48,716 --> 00:20:51,796
So it's going to be a busy day tomorrow on the 6th.
250
00:20:51,796 --> 00:21:00,796
And just like we said earlier, you can get your tickets for the Adams family, which is on the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th with multiple time slots in the show notes.
251
00:21:01,736 --> 00:21:06,836
It still shows a Veterans Day assembly at the high school on November 11th.
252
00:21:06,976 --> 00:21:08,296
So we'll have to see there.
253
00:21:08,456 --> 00:21:10,596
I think I'm not sure if they're having that.
254
00:21:11,296 --> 00:21:15,896
Bowling tryouts are going to happen December 9th at 330 at the Franklin Entertainment Center.
255
00:21:15,896 --> 00:21:19,196
If you're wanting to be part of the bowling team for the middle school.
256
00:21:20,616 --> 00:21:21,516
Jacket news.
257
00:21:21,796 --> 00:21:32,676
The game against Waverly last week did not disappoint with a two point one two point conversion with the win at the last seconds.
258
00:21:32,676 --> 00:21:51,356
Basically, Fairview won by gaining 15 points in the last six minutes of the game, including a two point conversion within the last 30 seconds of the game to do that with the final score of 29 to 28 Waverly, which means they have clinched the region six championship.
259
00:21:51,356 --> 00:21:59,436
and they are proceeding so that's awesome november 6th is another or uh is another um
260
00:21:59,436 --> 00:22:05,076
yeah november 6th is another championship game against stratford at 7 p.m so be there
261
00:22:05,076 --> 00:22:10,736
it could be the last game of the season or the second to last if they win and get to keep
262
00:22:10,736 --> 00:22:17,716
progressing through the state championship uh regions fairview uh is at 8 2 and stratford is
263
00:22:17,716 --> 00:22:22,476
at 3-6. So we wish them all the luck to get there and they hope to have a good and safe game.
264
00:22:22,816 --> 00:22:27,336
If you're not into football and you're into theater, you can see the first showings of
265
00:22:27,336 --> 00:22:35,276
rumors starting on the 6th at 7 p.m. The pep rally is also November 7th and at 7 p.m. is showing
266
00:22:35,276 --> 00:22:41,336
rumors. And then on the 8th, there is the 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. showing of the same show if you want to
267
00:22:41,336 --> 00:22:45,556
make sure you get your chance to get in there. The fall market, just like we talked about,
268
00:22:45,556 --> 00:22:47,596
is November 15th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
269
00:22:47,616 --> 00:22:49,676
This is a great place to support your local businesses
270
00:22:49,676 --> 00:22:50,856
and get some Christmas shopping.
271
00:22:51,496 --> 00:22:54,096
Every Friday, Kona Ice and Tom's Coffee
272
00:22:54,096 --> 00:22:55,216
will be there at lunchtime.
273
00:22:55,956 --> 00:22:59,056
Senior portraits and senior ads are due by November 21st.
274
00:22:59,496 --> 00:23:01,856
November 21st is still marked down as the career day.
275
00:23:01,976 --> 00:23:03,056
I'm not sure if they're having it, though,
276
00:23:03,096 --> 00:23:04,316
because I think it's every other year.
277
00:23:04,716 --> 00:23:06,816
The ASVAB test is on December 9th,
278
00:23:06,816 --> 00:23:08,676
and if you're planning on joining the military,
279
00:23:08,676 --> 00:23:11,136
this is a must-have, so get your study on
280
00:23:11,136 --> 00:23:13,836
because this will determine what job you can actually pick.
281
00:23:13,836 --> 00:23:23,636
Looks like the high school bowling team is rolling with practices coming up on the November 13th and 20th and making some trips to Thunder Alley and Dixon to get your roll on.
282
00:23:24,176 --> 00:23:35,696
And if you have kids in 8th to 12th grade and they're looking for your creative outlet this winter, then there's an unforgettable season expired by the hit Broadway Waitress.
283
00:23:35,696 --> 00:23:40,556
Tryout dates are November 14th, 17th, and 21st at 430 to 730.
284
00:23:40,556 --> 00:23:46,776
rehearsals will be monday through fridays 4 30 to 7 30 no experience necessary bring your energy
285
00:23:46,776 --> 00:23:53,196
and enthusiasm tryouts and rehearsals take place at the fairview high school if you have a student
286
00:23:53,196 --> 00:23:57,736
who is starting to drive this year you need to make sure they send the email to the principal
287
00:23:57,736 --> 00:24:02,516
to get the schoolagy link to get the checkpoints driving training and then pay for your parking
288
00:24:02,516 --> 00:24:10,456
pass which is 15 per year so that is some good stuff faith moment if you haven't heard of the
289
00:24:10,456 --> 00:24:14,556
Patriot Academy. I suggest learning more, especially if you have kids and want to raise
290
00:24:14,556 --> 00:24:20,476
them as godly citizens. This is a sermon from Rick Green that did it at the Awakened Church.
291
00:24:20,936 --> 00:24:27,056
And this talks about the founding of the country and that this is just the first half of this
292
00:24:27,056 --> 00:24:31,956
sermon. But I think a lot of this stuff is really good and hopefully you'll do that.
293
00:24:33,176 --> 00:24:36,796
Bless you. Have a seat. Let's dive in quick. Make the most of every minute we've got together.
294
00:24:37,236 --> 00:24:39,816
I'm going to bring a lot at you really fast, so buckle up.
295
00:24:40,236 --> 00:24:44,556
David Barton and I both get accused of talking about 90 words a minute with gusts up to 350.
296
00:24:45,516 --> 00:24:49,256
Forget 90, we're starting at 350, we might even go above that.
297
00:24:49,336 --> 00:24:52,476
So I love being with you, it is so good to see God's people coming together.
298
00:24:52,716 --> 00:24:53,936
Didn't you miss that fellowship?
299
00:24:54,736 --> 00:25:00,396
Oh my goodness, just to get to see each other, smile at each other, hug each other, pray for each other, lay hands on each other.
300
00:25:00,936 --> 00:25:03,436
Man, we need you so bad, I'm so thankful for what you're doing.
301
00:25:03,436 --> 00:25:05,676
You're really a beacon to others around the country.
302
00:25:05,676 --> 00:25:08,396
You got great pastors here willing to bring.
303
00:25:09,756 --> 00:25:13,136
You know, I mean, John and Becky, Juergen and Leanne,
304
00:25:13,236 --> 00:25:15,616
they understand the importance of God's word
305
00:25:15,616 --> 00:25:17,816
applying to every part of our lives,
306
00:25:17,856 --> 00:25:20,916
not just these boxes we try to put Christ in,
307
00:25:20,996 --> 00:25:22,836
these boxes we try to put the word of God in.
308
00:25:23,176 --> 00:25:26,556
They understand the importance of even influencing government
309
00:25:26,556 --> 00:25:27,856
with the word of God.
310
00:25:28,336 --> 00:25:30,636
There are not enough churches in America doing that anymore.
311
00:25:30,836 --> 00:25:32,076
It used to be the role of the church.
312
00:25:32,176 --> 00:25:34,456
We used to even call pastors in the Revolutionary War
313
00:25:34,456 --> 00:25:39,216
the black-robed regiment, the British hated them because they were actually so engaged in the
314
00:25:39,216 --> 00:25:44,156
culture and they were teaching liberty to their flocks out of the Word of God. And then the pastors
315
00:25:44,156 --> 00:25:48,576
were grabbing the musket off the mantle and marching into battle with the people right out
316
00:25:48,576 --> 00:25:53,096
of their church. So the role of pastors and churches in American history has been huge.
317
00:25:53,476 --> 00:25:58,196
I want to bring it to maybe a point you may not expect, and that is when we think about our role
318
00:25:58,196 --> 00:26:03,476
as Christians in a free society like America, when we think about what it means to be a biblical
319
00:26:03,476 --> 00:26:06,976
a local citizen in the way that our nation works right now,
320
00:26:06,976 --> 00:26:08,476
I would suggest to you this morning
321
00:26:08,476 --> 00:26:25,232
that it actually goes back to the Great Commission That when you think about the gospel itself it is not just a one fire insurance salvation message that the gospel the actual idea of the Great Commission is not just to share the story
322
00:26:25,232 --> 00:26:30,312
of Christ and what Christ has done for you, but actually to make disciples of all men. And so when
323
00:26:30,312 --> 00:26:34,472
you look at it, it's therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
324
00:26:34,472 --> 00:26:39,792
Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I've commanded you.
325
00:26:40,552 --> 00:26:42,372
Now that means that there's nothing off limits.
326
00:26:42,472 --> 00:26:44,232
If you go and look at the teachings of Christ,
327
00:26:44,332 --> 00:26:45,512
if you take the Bible as a whole,
328
00:26:45,792 --> 00:26:48,492
there is no area of our culture that is off limits.
329
00:26:48,592 --> 00:26:50,392
And so he's given us a way to approach
330
00:26:50,392 --> 00:26:52,652
not just our finances and our family,
331
00:26:52,792 --> 00:26:55,712
but also our community, also our freedom itself.
332
00:26:56,192 --> 00:26:58,792
And so there's a biblical way to do this.
333
00:26:58,972 --> 00:27:01,312
And if we would follow the biblical example,
334
00:27:01,512 --> 00:27:04,032
the whole culture would benefit from that.
335
00:27:04,032 --> 00:27:06,712
So if we, the church, are being salt and light
336
00:27:06,712 --> 00:27:08,892
and actually influencing what's happening outside,
337
00:27:08,892 --> 00:27:11,592
then everybody else benefits as well,
338
00:27:11,592 --> 00:27:13,472
because we're sowing in the right principles
339
00:27:13,472 --> 00:27:15,132
that produce good results.
340
00:27:15,132 --> 00:27:16,772
I'm gonna give you a little bit of an analogy here
341
00:27:16,772 --> 00:27:19,032
because I think it fits, and I actually,
342
00:27:19,032 --> 00:27:20,932
we got blessed about a year and a half ago
343
00:27:20,932 --> 00:27:22,772
and got a new truck in our family, okay?
344
00:27:22,772 --> 00:27:26,372
So this is our truck, it's a nice, beautiful Dodge Ram 1500.
345
00:27:26,372 --> 00:27:29,672
I say we somewhat liberally
346
00:27:29,672 --> 00:27:31,252
because it's actually my wife's truck.
347
00:27:33,012 --> 00:27:34,612
But she does let me drive it every once in a while.
348
00:27:34,612 --> 00:27:36,412
Anyway, we're driving off the lot,
349
00:27:36,412 --> 00:27:38,752
and she's of course driving, and I open the glove box,
350
00:27:38,752 --> 00:27:42,052
and guess what I found in the glove box of this new truck?
351
00:27:42,052 --> 00:27:45,592
A manual, and the manual was written by
352
00:27:45,592 --> 00:27:47,632
the creator of that truck.
353
00:27:47,632 --> 00:27:50,732
The manual was instructions for us
354
00:27:50,732 --> 00:27:53,492
on how to operate that truck and get the most out of it,
355
00:27:53,492 --> 00:27:56,112
have it last the longest, perform at its best,
356
00:27:56,112 --> 00:27:57,272
all of those things.
357
00:27:57,272 --> 00:27:58,532
So we get this instruction manual
358
00:27:58,532 --> 00:28:00,912
written by the creator of the truck,
359
00:28:00,912 --> 00:28:02,612
and then as we're driving away from the parking lot,
360
00:28:02,612 --> 00:28:04,512
I'm looking at this manual, and I roll down the window
361
00:28:04,512 --> 00:28:05,812
and say, baby, this is our truck.
362
00:28:05,812 --> 00:28:08,112
Ain't nobody gonna tell us how to live our truck.
363
00:28:08,112 --> 00:28:10,252
and I throw the manual out the window.
364
00:28:10,252 --> 00:28:12,092
And then we stop for gas,
365
00:28:12,092 --> 00:28:14,212
and we're gonna get gasoline for this gasoline truck,
366
00:28:14,212 --> 00:28:16,412
but as we're pulling in, I say, you know, honey,
367
00:28:16,412 --> 00:28:18,852
I just kinda feel like a diesel today.
368
00:28:20,152 --> 00:28:21,492
So I think we should be a diesel.
369
00:28:21,492 --> 00:28:22,932
She's like, baby, we bought a gas truck.
370
00:28:22,932 --> 00:28:25,292
I'm like, no, it's okay, I feel like a diesel today,
371
00:28:25,292 --> 00:28:26,872
so let's be a diesel truck today.
372
00:28:26,872 --> 00:28:28,872
And she says, maybe that manual we threw away
373
00:28:28,872 --> 00:28:30,092
might have said something about this,
374
00:28:30,092 --> 00:28:31,572
but you know, we're gonna try it anyway.
375
00:28:31,572 --> 00:28:33,012
We fill her up with diesel.
376
00:28:33,012 --> 00:28:35,272
How far out of that driveway do you think we're getting?
377
00:28:35,272 --> 00:28:36,412
In fact, right around the corner,
378
00:28:36,412 --> 00:28:38,112
it's gonna turn into a Chevy and break down.
379
00:28:38,112 --> 00:28:41,472
That's probably what's gonna happen.
380
00:28:41,812 --> 00:28:44,552
So now that I've offended all the Chevy owners in the room,
381
00:28:44,652 --> 00:28:48,532
look, God has given us an instruction manual for life.
382
00:28:49,172 --> 00:28:51,612
The Bible teaches us how the brain works,
383
00:28:51,672 --> 00:28:53,652
how the body works, how relationships work,
384
00:28:53,892 --> 00:28:55,332
how society should work.
385
00:28:55,672 --> 00:28:57,352
All of that instruction is in there.
386
00:28:58,052 --> 00:28:59,992
And yet we too often as Americans wanna say,
387
00:29:00,092 --> 00:29:01,192
nobody's gonna tell me how to live.
388
00:29:01,272 --> 00:29:02,312
I'm gonna have total freedom.
389
00:29:02,392 --> 00:29:04,012
I get to do anything and everything that I want.
390
00:29:04,012 --> 00:29:07,092
And we've redefined what freedom and liberty actually mean
391
00:29:07,092 --> 00:29:09,872
so that we can have a license for licentiousness
392
00:29:09,872 --> 00:29:12,972
rather than actually getting the best blessings of freedom
393
00:29:12,972 --> 00:29:15,072
by actually living within the boundaries
394
00:29:15,072 --> 00:29:18,132
that the author and the source of freedom actually gives us
395
00:29:18,132 --> 00:29:19,772
because he knows how we work
396
00:29:19,772 --> 00:29:21,492
and what's gonna produce a good result.
397
00:29:21,612 --> 00:29:22,992
So we wanna use the instruction manual.
398
00:29:23,452 --> 00:29:24,892
Noah Webster's one of our founding fathers.
399
00:29:25,052 --> 00:29:26,552
He said, all the miseries and evils
400
00:29:26,552 --> 00:29:29,652
which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice,
401
00:29:29,852 --> 00:29:31,292
oppression, slavery, and war
402
00:29:31,292 --> 00:29:34,652
proceed from their despising or neglecting
403
00:29:34,652 --> 00:29:36,352
the precepts contained in the Bible.
404
00:29:36,932 --> 00:29:38,172
Now, just that little short list there,
405
00:29:38,212 --> 00:29:40,052
there's some personal things in there
406
00:29:40,052 --> 00:29:41,592
that would cause us pain in our lives,
407
00:29:41,612 --> 00:29:43,652
but there's some cultural things in there as well,
408
00:29:43,952 --> 00:29:44,672
societal things.
409
00:29:45,012 --> 00:29:47,132
And he's saying both personally and culturally
410
00:29:47,132 --> 00:29:49,572
and as a society, if we follow the Bible,
411
00:29:49,672 --> 00:29:50,672
we can avoid that pain.
412
00:29:50,912 --> 00:29:52,772
We ignore the Bible and the precepts of the Bible.
413
00:29:52,972 --> 00:29:55,732
We're going to experience that pain in our culture.
414
00:29:56,172 --> 00:29:58,952
So let's specifically look at your role in America.
415
00:29:59,392 --> 00:30:02,412
If we're gonna teach people to obey all of Christ's commands,
416
00:30:02,412 --> 00:30:04,612
he said, render unto Caesar what is Caesar's
417
00:30:04,612 --> 00:30:06,192
and unto God what is God's.
418
00:30:06,352 --> 00:30:07,932
You say, well, Rick, how do I do that?
419
00:30:07,992 --> 00:30:08,492
How do I render?
420
00:30:08,552 --> 00:30:09,472
We don't have Caesar, right?
421
00:30:09,532 --> 00:30:10,592
But we do, actually.
422
00:30:10,712 --> 00:30:11,812
Who is Caesar in America?
423
00:30:13,032 --> 00:30:13,652
It's you.
424
00:30:14,412 --> 00:30:15,252
We the people.
425
00:30:15,952 --> 00:30:17,432
Government answers to you.
426
00:30:17,592 --> 00:30:19,972
Our system of government is different from the Roman Empire.
427
00:30:20,372 --> 00:30:23,412
When he uttered those words, that meant something different in terms of application.
428
00:30:23,652 --> 00:30:24,672
The principle was the same.
429
00:30:24,992 --> 00:30:28,312
But in terms of application, it was different because it was a different political and economic
430
00:30:28,312 --> 00:30:28,752
structure.
431
00:30:29,212 --> 00:30:32,372
In our political and economic structure, you are in charge.
432
00:30:32,472 --> 00:30:34,132
We the people are ultimately in charge.
433
00:30:34,132 --> 00:30:38,912
So if we're going to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, then we have to do our job as
434
00:30:38,912 --> 00:30:39,172
citizens.
435
00:30:39,292 --> 00:30:41,972
We literally have to say, okay, well, what does that mean to be we the people?
436
00:30:42,452 --> 00:30:45,612
How do I live out being Caesar in a free society?
437
00:30:45,752 --> 00:30:50,912
How do I take the Constitution and actually apply biblical principles to my society?
438
00:30:51,652 --> 00:30:53,452
Well, Charles Finney told us how simple this is.
439
00:30:53,732 --> 00:30:55,852
He was a speaker in the second great awakening.
440
00:30:56,372 --> 00:30:59,332
In fact, this is a picture of him preaching, but that's not, it looks like John Travolta
441
00:30:59,332 --> 00:30:59,972
in Staying Alive.
442
00:30:59,972 --> 00:31:03,732
He just didn't have the white suit, but he was pretty good at that.
443
00:31:03,732 --> 00:31:05,092
Anyway, you know what inspired the movie now.
444
00:31:06,412 --> 00:31:11,032
He actually said the church must take right ground in regard to politics.
445
00:31:12,192 --> 00:31:14,552
Man, we can stop right there and say, wait a minute, Rick.
446
00:31:14,592 --> 00:31:16,152
What about separation of church and state?
447
00:31:16,232 --> 00:31:18,472
The church must take right ground in regard to politics.
448
00:31:19,192 --> 00:31:23,072
He's saying, yeah, politics, that's just part of a religion in a country such as this.
449
00:31:23,512 --> 00:31:27,852
And Christians must do their duty to their country as a part of their duty to God.
450
00:31:28,352 --> 00:31:32,832
He said God will bless or curse this nation according to the course Christians take in politics.
451
00:31:32,832 --> 00:31:34,772
Well, right there, think about it.
452
00:31:34,772 --> 00:31:40,132
He's just saying politics, that's just like family, work, relationships.
453
00:31:40,132 --> 00:31:44,012
It's all part of our religion because the Bible applies to everything.
454
00:31:44,012 --> 00:31:49,352
There's no secular spiritual split in this idea of an instruction manual
455
00:31:49,352 --> 00:31:50,692
applying to our whole life.
456
00:31:50,692 --> 00:31:54,612
I mean, you would never walk away on Sunday morning driving home with your wife
457
00:31:54,612 --> 00:31:57,532
or your husband and saying, man, Pastor John was on fire today.
458
00:31:57,532 --> 00:32:01,092
I mean, that was such a great sermon about how to treat your spouse,
459
00:32:01,092 --> 00:32:02,132
how to raise your kids.
460
00:32:02,132 --> 00:32:06,512
It was a really good sermon on being a good husband or father or wife or mother.
461
00:32:06,672 --> 00:32:08,812
But, you know, I wish we could apply it when we get home.
462
00:32:08,952 --> 00:32:11,312
But separation of home and church.
463
00:32:13,292 --> 00:32:14,232
Can't do it, you know.
464
00:32:14,612 --> 00:32:17,092
You've never driven away from this church and said,
465
00:32:17,092 --> 00:32:20,152
man, Pastor John was preaching so good on how to be a good servant leader,
466
00:32:20,292 --> 00:32:23,672
how to be a good employer or a good employee, how to have good work ethic,
467
00:32:23,872 --> 00:32:24,832
how to treat people right.
468
00:32:24,932 --> 00:32:26,692
I wish I could apply it tomorrow at work.
469
00:32:26,792 --> 00:32:29,072
But separation of church and work.
470
00:32:29,072 --> 00:32:35,792
Why in the world do we allow ourselves to say separation of church and state?
471
00:32:35,892 --> 00:32:38,892
I can't apply God's word to how I'm going to vote on Tuesday
472
00:32:38,892 --> 00:32:41,292
or how I'm going to testify at the legislature
473
00:32:41,292 --> 00:32:44,352
or how I'm going to influence the school board or the city council
474
00:32:44,352 --> 00:32:45,872
or all of these areas.
475
00:32:46,232 --> 00:32:47,992
There is no secular spiritual split.
476
00:32:48,132 --> 00:32:49,132
Psalms 24.1 says,
477
00:32:49,292 --> 00:32:52,132
The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof.
478
00:32:52,692 --> 00:32:54,712
Now, I'm just a country boy from Dripping Springs, Texas.
479
00:32:55,152 --> 00:32:58,132
Country boy interpretation of that is it's all his.
480
00:32:58,132 --> 00:33:03,952
every bit of it and if we are ignoring a part of it or we're pretending that a
481
00:33:03,952 --> 00:33:06,872
part of it doesn't belong to him then we're ignoring the instruction manual
482
00:33:06,872 --> 00:33:10,372
and we're ignoring what he actually gave us so we've got to take right ground in
483
00:33:10,372 --> 00:33:13,852
regard to politics well how do we do that in our culture you've been given
484
00:33:13,852 --> 00:33:18,052
just like in the parable the talents you've been given a talent of freedom
485
00:33:18,052 --> 00:33:23,152
you've been given the ability to influence who your leaders are and first
486
00:33:23,152 --> 00:33:27,232
of all recognize in the context of history most people who ever lived on
487
00:33:27,232 --> 00:33:32,372
the planet did not have that right, did not have that talent, that gift of freedom to be
488
00:33:32,372 --> 00:33:35,912
able to choose their leaders, to be able to choose what their government would look like.
489
00:33:35,912 --> 00:33:37,172
So first of all, it's just a blessing.
490
00:33:37,172 --> 00:33:40,672
It's incredible that we get to enjoy that and we need to be thankful for it.
491
00:33:40,672 --> 00:33:43,352
But secondly, there's a responsibility that comes with it.
492
00:33:43,352 --> 00:33:45,092
You know, we love to talk about our rights.
493
00:33:45,092 --> 00:33:47,892
I got the right to do this and the right to do that and I want freedom of speech and freedom
494
00:33:47,892 --> 00:33:49,392
of this and freedom of that.
495
00:33:49,392 --> 00:33:53,392
With every right comes a corresponding responsibility.
496
00:33:53,392 --> 00:33:56,972
We too often talk about the rights and don't talk about the responsibility that comes with
497
00:33:56,972 --> 00:33:58,972
But it's just like that parable of talents.
498
00:33:58,972 --> 00:34:01,272
I mean, God's given you this gift of freedom.
499
00:34:01,272 --> 00:34:03,012
Are you gonna be one of those two that he came back
500
00:34:03,012 --> 00:34:05,472
and said, well done, good and faithful servant?
501
00:34:05,472 --> 00:34:07,212
You know, you've been faithful with a little bit.
502
00:34:07,212 --> 00:34:09,212
I'm gonna give you even more to be responsible with.
503
00:34:09,212 --> 00:34:11,352
Are you gonna be that one that buried the talent,
504
00:34:11,352 --> 00:34:13,732
hid the talent, maybe said, oh, I'm not voting,
505
00:34:13,732 --> 00:34:15,552
I'm not gonna get involved, I can't make a difference,
506
00:34:15,552 --> 00:34:17,792
or it's too risky, or whatever?
507
00:34:17,792 --> 00:34:19,132
And then what did he say?
508
00:34:19,132 --> 00:34:22,232
Wicked and slothful servant.
509
00:34:22,232 --> 00:34:24,272
My friends, if we don't use our freedom,
510
00:34:24,272 --> 00:34:26,612
if we don't exercise this citizen duty,
511
00:34:27,052 --> 00:34:29,292
I believe we're being wicked and slothful servants.
512
00:34:29,492 --> 00:34:31,572
We're not doing the best that we can
513
00:34:31,572 --> 00:34:33,132
with what God has given us.
514
00:34:33,172 --> 00:34:34,752
He's blessed us with so much,
515
00:34:34,812 --> 00:34:36,232
so we've gotta be engaged in this.
516
00:34:36,652 --> 00:34:38,652
In fact, right now, and what's happening in our culture,
517
00:34:38,732 --> 00:34:40,052
I think this verse applies as well.
518
00:34:40,512 --> 00:34:42,092
Whoever knows the right thing to do
519
00:34:42,092 --> 00:34:43,932
and fails to do it for him it is sin.
520
00:34:44,372 --> 00:34:46,452
I think that is true with regard to our culture.
521
00:34:46,572 --> 00:34:48,632
I mean, we're dealing with a culture war right now
522
00:34:48,632 --> 00:34:49,972
of worldviews.
523
00:34:50,592 --> 00:34:52,412
There are competing worldviews.
524
00:34:52,412 --> 00:34:54,912
Some that say that life is not precious,
525
00:34:54,912 --> 00:34:56,512
that you can take life in the womb
526
00:34:56,512 --> 00:35:00,612
up to literally to birth or even after birth.
527
00:35:00,612 --> 00:35:03,252
I mean, we're talking about evil right now.
528
00:35:03,252 --> 00:35:04,852
And for us to stand back and say,
529
00:35:04,852 --> 00:35:06,152
I'm not gonna be involved,
530
00:35:06,152 --> 00:35:09,692
or for us to say, I'm gonna vote for a candidate
531
00:35:09,692 --> 00:35:12,832
that supports that kind of infanticide
532
00:35:12,832 --> 00:35:14,872
because the other candidate said something
533
00:35:14,872 --> 00:35:16,372
that offended me.
534
00:35:16,372 --> 00:35:19,312
Are we seriously gonna make moral equivalence
535
00:35:19,312 --> 00:35:20,432
of those two things?
536
00:35:20,432 --> 00:35:25,432
We've got to have discernment, right?
537
00:35:26,872 --> 00:35:28,212
We've got to have discernment,
538
00:35:28,212 --> 00:35:30,732
and there is evil in our world right now,
539
00:35:30,732 --> 00:35:32,372
and we have got to step up
540
00:35:32,372 --> 00:35:34,392
and have a voice of reason with that.
541
00:35:34,392 --> 00:35:36,032
Now, I gotta sidetrack just a little bit,
542
00:35:36,032 --> 00:35:37,872
because as I say be a good citizen
543
00:35:37,872 --> 00:35:39,672
and be involved in this,
544
00:35:39,672 --> 00:35:41,852
I used to go around and give this presentation over here
545
00:35:41,852 --> 00:35:44,512
that says, saving America begins with you.
546
00:35:44,512 --> 00:35:46,992
But right now, America's on trial.
547
00:35:47,832 --> 00:35:49,332
There's many of you that may be feeling,
548
00:35:49,332 --> 00:35:51,352
You may be worried, in your gut you're wondering,
549
00:35:51,352 --> 00:35:52,832
is this system even worth saving?
550
00:35:52,832 --> 00:35:55,812
I mean, should I save the American Constitution?
551
00:35:55,812 --> 00:35:58,612
Is the American value system good or bad?
552
00:35:58,612 --> 00:36:01,052
And there's a lot of things we could discuss today
553
00:36:01,052 --> 00:36:02,672
to answer that question.
554
00:36:02,672 --> 00:36:04,392
But again, I'm a country boy from Trippie Springs,
555
00:36:04,392 --> 00:36:06,212
so I'm just gonna make it really, really simple.
556
00:36:06,212 --> 00:36:10,432
We're gonna look at one basic, easy to analyze question.
557
00:36:10,432 --> 00:36:12,932
If you wanna know whether or not a nation is good or bad,
558
00:36:12,932 --> 00:36:15,332
whether or not a nation is worth saving,
559
00:36:15,332 --> 00:36:17,932
whether or not a nation's principles and values
560
00:36:17,932 --> 00:36:20,492
and system of political and economic structures
561
00:36:20,492 --> 00:36:22,172
is producing good results or bad results.
562
00:36:22,172 --> 00:36:24,352
Very simple question to ask.
563
00:36:24,352 --> 00:36:27,692
Are people trying to get in, or are they trying to get out?
564
00:36:28,892 --> 00:36:31,212
Because if they're trying to get in,
565
00:36:31,212 --> 00:36:32,712
there must be a reason, right?
566
00:36:32,712 --> 00:36:36,972
If they're not fleeing to get out, there must be a reason.
567
00:36:36,972 --> 00:36:41,972
America has one out of every five immigrants on the planet.
568
00:36:42,692 --> 00:36:44,512
Now that's not illegal or illegal,
569
00:36:44,512 --> 00:36:46,072
I'm not distinguishing between those two.
570
00:36:46,072 --> 00:36:50,552
That means you're living in a nation in which you were not born.
571
00:36:50,552 --> 00:36:58,592
There are more immigrants living in America than the second, third, fourth, and fifth nations combined.
572
00:36:58,592 --> 00:37:05,152
There's more immigrants living in America than the bottom 159 nations combined.
573
00:37:05,152 --> 00:37:09,252
That tells you right there, there is something about the American value system
574
00:37:09,252 --> 00:37:11,372
that's working pretty darn good, right?
575
00:37:11,372 --> 00:37:13,272
Does it mean we're perfect? Absolutely not.
576
00:37:13,272 --> 00:37:14,872
Does it mean we're flawed? Absolutely.
577
00:37:14,872 --> 00:37:18,472
Guess what, because America is still made up of human beings.
578
00:37:18,472 --> 00:37:20,392
People, as one of my guys says,
579
00:37:20,392 --> 00:37:23,352
the joys of working with people, right?
580
00:37:23,352 --> 00:37:25,412
I mean, that is part of being in a society.
581
00:37:25,412 --> 00:37:27,552
We're gonna have flaws and we're gonna have sinners
582
00:37:27,552 --> 00:37:28,972
and we're gonna have things like that,
583
00:37:28,972 --> 00:37:31,932
but the American dream is still real.
584
00:37:31,932 --> 00:37:35,172
Have you ever noticed that you don't hear that phrase?
585
00:37:35,172 --> 00:37:37,592
Have you ever heard of the North Korean dream?
586
00:37:39,332 --> 00:37:40,072
Anybody?
587
00:37:40,072 --> 00:37:41,092
No, I don't think I've ever,
588
00:37:41,092 --> 00:37:43,712
have you ever heard of the Cuban dream?
589
00:37:43,712 --> 00:37:47,252
Right, it doesn't happen in socialist or communist countries.
590
00:37:47,252 --> 00:37:50,572
The American dream is what the entire world looks to
591
00:37:50,572 --> 00:37:52,272
and says, that's the model.
592
00:37:52,272 --> 00:37:53,752
They've gotten the results.
593
00:37:53,752 --> 00:37:55,552
They've created a society that's a blessing.
594
00:37:55,552 --> 00:37:57,552
But right now, man, we hear it in our streets
595
00:37:57,552 --> 00:38:01,012
all over the nation saying, America's evil, America's bad.
596
00:38:01,012 --> 00:38:02,472
We need to destroy America.
597
00:38:02,472 --> 00:38:05,132
The Marxist philosophy that's being taught
598
00:38:05,132 --> 00:38:08,192
to tear down the American system is on purpose.
599
00:38:08,192 --> 00:38:10,992
It's part of what Karl Marx said 150 years ago.
600
00:38:10,992 --> 00:38:13,452
To destroy us, you have to divide us.
601
00:38:13,752 --> 00:38:16,152
You have to put black against white, rich against poor,
602
00:38:16,792 --> 00:38:19,292
country boys against the intellectuals of the Northeast.
603
00:38:19,552 --> 00:38:20,972
I mean, whatever you can come up with.
604
00:38:21,252 --> 00:38:24,332
You've got to come up with something that will divide us
605
00:38:24,332 --> 00:38:25,832
because they don't want us united.
606
00:38:25,972 --> 00:38:29,072
They don't want us coming behind these principles and saying, this works.
607
00:38:29,152 --> 00:38:31,092
So let me just speak to the elephant in the room, all right?
608
00:38:31,132 --> 00:38:33,132
Everybody looks at these guys and says,
609
00:38:33,212 --> 00:38:34,692
well, weren't they all racist slave owners?
610
00:38:34,812 --> 00:38:36,632
Why should we be proud of America?
611
00:38:36,632 --> 00:38:39,032
Why should we be proud of what we have at all?
612
00:38:39,032 --> 00:38:42,052
Let me tell you, I've studied these guys for 30 years,
613
00:38:42,312 --> 00:38:45,532
and I discovered something in that study, an amazing thing.
614
00:38:46,232 --> 00:38:47,292
They were human, too.
615
00:38:48,272 --> 00:38:49,532
They were sinners, too.
616
00:38:50,092 --> 00:38:53,472
They did evil things, just like you and just like me.
617
00:38:54,192 --> 00:38:56,072
They were depraved, just like us.
618
00:38:56,552 --> 00:38:59,592
And when you go back to 1776 and you look at the world,
619
00:39:00,072 --> 00:39:01,372
every nation had slavery.
620
00:39:02,092 --> 00:39:06,832
Black on black, black on white, white on black, white on white,
621
00:39:07,312 --> 00:39:08,872
yellow, red, you put it all in there.
622
00:39:09,032 --> 00:39:11,832
Every combination you can possibly think of.
623
00:39:11,832 --> 00:39:13,572
And believe it or not, three fourths of the men
624
00:39:13,572 --> 00:39:16,332
you see in this picture were abolitionists,
625
00:39:16,332 --> 00:39:17,672
wanted to end slavery.
626
00:39:17,672 --> 00:39:34,608
Even some of the ones that had grown up in slavery and owned slaves abhorred it hated it and spent their lives trying to end the institution Am I putting these guys they not angels I not deifying them I not putting them on a pedestal I just telling you they were humans like us And somehow someway God used
627
00:39:34,608 --> 00:39:41,948
these flawed men to put a document together that said we hold these truths to be self-evident,
628
00:39:42,348 --> 00:39:46,628
that all men are created equal, that they're endowed by their creator with certain unalienable
629
00:39:46,628 --> 00:39:50,768
rights that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights,
630
00:39:50,908 --> 00:39:55,728
governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
631
00:39:56,348 --> 00:40:00,608
Use those flawed men to put those principles in place, and it was those principles upon which
632
00:40:00,608 --> 00:40:04,808
Abraham Lincoln stood with the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those principles that
633
00:40:04,808 --> 00:40:08,688
Martin Luther King Jr. marched in the streets. He quoted from the Declaration almost as much as he
634
00:40:08,688 --> 00:40:14,308
quoted from the Bible. Those principles laid out the ideal of America, and ever since then,
635
00:40:14,308 --> 00:40:16,348
and we have constantly worked hard
636
00:40:16,348 --> 00:40:18,388
to become a more perfect union.
637
00:40:18,388 --> 00:40:19,508
And we've done that.
638
00:40:19,508 --> 00:40:22,588
We have become the most powerful, the wealthiest,
639
00:40:22,588 --> 00:40:25,828
the most free, and the most benevolent nation
640
00:40:25,828 --> 00:40:27,988
in the history of the world.
641
00:40:27,988 --> 00:40:29,448
But we don't know our history,
642
00:40:29,448 --> 00:40:31,628
and therefore we're buying the lies.
643
00:40:31,628 --> 00:40:34,788
We're buying the idea that somehow we should destroy America,
644
00:40:34,788 --> 00:40:36,628
that it's not salvageable.
645
00:40:36,628 --> 00:40:38,528
That's what critical race theory is all about.
646
00:40:38,528 --> 00:40:41,768
It's creating this idea that America is so evil and so bad,
647
00:40:41,768 --> 00:40:43,468
it must be destroyed.
648
00:40:43,468 --> 00:40:47,888
And that's why these kids are in the streets tearing down statues and tearing down the culture and rioting in that way.
649
00:40:48,168 --> 00:40:50,368
And a lot of them have a righteous indignation.
650
00:40:50,488 --> 00:40:52,448
They believe they're fighting for a good cause.
651
00:40:52,528 --> 00:40:53,448
They've been lied to.
652
00:40:53,928 --> 00:40:55,388
And we have truth.
653
00:40:55,708 --> 00:40:58,528
We have biblical truth that can teach people.
654
00:40:58,848 --> 00:40:59,708
Depraved, yes.
655
00:41:00,168 --> 00:41:03,628
But the principles of God, the instruction manual of God when followed,
656
00:41:03,628 --> 00:41:08,088
will bless even a flawed community and flawed men and women.
657
00:41:08,248 --> 00:41:09,888
That's what the American story is.
658
00:41:09,928 --> 00:41:12,228
I've got to tell you about a couple of these guys that we leave out of history.
659
00:41:12,588 --> 00:41:15,008
Peter Salem was a black patriot that fought at Bunker Hill
660
00:41:15,008 --> 00:41:18,588
and got 13 military commendations for what he did in that one day,
661
00:41:18,648 --> 00:41:20,988
one of the great military heroes in American history.
662
00:41:21,108 --> 00:41:23,248
James Armistead was our first double agent.
663
00:41:23,508 --> 00:41:25,488
This was the James Bond of the Revolutionary War.
664
00:41:26,348 --> 00:41:29,848
This guy actually convinced the British that he was a runaway slave
665
00:41:29,848 --> 00:41:32,748
and that he hated the Americans and he wanted to beat the Americans,
666
00:41:33,088 --> 00:41:35,308
so he gets into their camp, gets up to the highest levels,
667
00:41:35,548 --> 00:41:37,528
gets all this great information, starts sneaking out,
668
00:41:37,928 --> 00:41:39,768
giving it to the Lafayette and the Americans.
669
00:41:40,048 --> 00:41:41,648
We start using it to win some battles.
670
00:41:41,648 --> 00:41:43,488
as we start winning battles, the British are going,
671
00:41:43,568 --> 00:41:45,048
man, these Americans are getting smart.
672
00:41:45,668 --> 00:41:48,068
We need some spies to find out what they're doing.
673
00:41:48,168 --> 00:41:49,968
Who do we know that could go spy on those guys?
674
00:41:50,088 --> 00:41:51,448
We need a...
675
00:41:51,448 --> 00:41:53,368
Hey, Armistead, you'd be really good at this.
676
00:41:54,148 --> 00:41:55,688
Would you go spy on those Americans?
677
00:41:55,708 --> 00:41:56,828
No, I hate those Americans.
678
00:41:56,908 --> 00:41:57,908
No, we need you to go spy.
679
00:41:57,988 --> 00:41:58,908
No, I'm not going back.
680
00:41:58,988 --> 00:41:59,848
We really need...
681
00:41:59,848 --> 00:42:01,948
All right, I guess I could do that for you.
682
00:42:04,988 --> 00:42:07,588
So now he's got free passage, right?
683
00:42:07,668 --> 00:42:09,528
So now he's getting the good stuff.
684
00:42:09,528 --> 00:42:11,048
He's taking it to Lafayette and the Americans,
685
00:42:11,048 --> 00:42:14,568
giving them all the good information they cook up a disinformation came go back go back and give the
686
00:42:14,568 --> 00:42:19,208
disinformation campaign to the british that guy right there sets up yorktown we end up ending the
687
00:42:19,208 --> 00:42:22,888
war because of what he did we just don't talk about him anymore prince whipple oliver cromwell
688
00:42:22,888 --> 00:42:27,048
black patriots that fought side by side with washington throughout the revolutionary war
689
00:42:27,048 --> 00:42:30,328
jump forward to the civil war these are all black patriots that got the medal of honor
690
00:42:30,968 --> 00:42:37,768
for protecting the american flag this guy right here william carney marched across that battlefield
691
00:42:37,768 --> 00:42:39,948
after the guy carrying the colors was killed.
692
00:42:40,068 --> 00:42:42,128
He took up the flag, did not let it touch the ground,
693
00:42:42,428 --> 00:42:44,188
was shot seven or eight times,
694
00:42:44,888 --> 00:42:46,668
and continued across that battlefield
695
00:42:46,668 --> 00:42:48,148
refusing to give up the flag.
696
00:42:48,628 --> 00:42:49,688
And when he got to the other side,
697
00:42:49,728 --> 00:42:51,388
he said, I never let old glory touch the ground.
698
00:42:51,488 --> 00:42:52,748
They ended up writing a song about it.
699
00:42:53,068 --> 00:42:54,468
He got the Medal of Honor for it.
700
00:42:54,488 --> 00:42:55,528
Just phenomenal stories.
701
00:42:55,928 --> 00:42:56,208
Why?
702
00:42:56,388 --> 00:42:56,968
Now think about it.
703
00:42:57,028 --> 00:42:59,628
I mean, you think we got racial problems in America today.
704
00:43:00,188 --> 00:43:01,468
I mean, this was a civil war.
705
00:43:01,828 --> 00:43:03,268
This was slavery still around.
706
00:43:03,348 --> 00:43:04,588
You talk about systemic racism.
707
00:43:04,588 --> 00:43:06,408
Absolutely there was systemic racism
708
00:43:06,408 --> 00:43:07,388
in the South at that time.
709
00:43:07,768 --> 00:43:14,088
but yet he still said that flag is the ideal of america that flag stands for the value system that
710
00:43:14,088 --> 00:43:18,808
we're trying to achieve to that was the mindset i you know alvita king probably taught me more
711
00:43:18,808 --> 00:43:24,488
about this than anybody we were we were she's the um niece of of uh mlk her dad was actually a d king
712
00:43:24,488 --> 00:43:28,648
i don't know if you know mlk was actually a pastor but uh the reverend martin luther king jr and the
713
00:43:28,648 --> 00:43:33,368
reverend a d king were known as the sons of thunder and and uh she was she was this is the
714
00:43:33,368 --> 00:43:36,648
church where they all grew up and preached their first sermons and everything and we did one of
715
00:43:36,648 --> 00:43:38,528
of our Chasing American Legends episodes with Alveda,
716
00:43:38,608 --> 00:43:39,688
and we're sitting there in a church,
717
00:43:40,548 --> 00:43:41,988
went to the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum.
718
00:43:42,188 --> 00:43:45,188
I got to see the cell from which MLK wrote
719
00:43:45,188 --> 00:43:46,648
the letter from the Birmingham jail.
720
00:43:46,728 --> 00:43:47,808
If you never read it, you need to read it.
721
00:43:47,848 --> 00:43:49,888
One of the greatest political works in American history.
722
00:43:49,988 --> 00:43:52,508
He didn't even have no research, nothing, no resources.
723
00:43:52,808 --> 00:43:54,428
He literally was writing on toilet paper
724
00:43:54,428 --> 00:43:55,628
and in the corners of magazines.
725
00:43:56,088 --> 00:43:57,548
So when you read that letter, you're gonna be like,
726
00:43:57,608 --> 00:43:59,668
how in the world, I mean, supernatural what God did
727
00:43:59,668 --> 00:44:00,288
through him.
728
00:44:00,348 --> 00:44:02,188
Anyway, Alveda was just, she was telling us the story
729
00:44:02,188 --> 00:44:03,808
of their home getting burned, bombed,
730
00:44:03,808 --> 00:44:06,228
and the house catches on fire,
731
00:44:06,228 --> 00:44:08,748
and her dad AD gets the kids, everybody out of the house.
732
00:44:09,108 --> 00:44:11,608
People start rioting in response to the bombing.
733
00:44:11,988 --> 00:44:13,488
And he goes out and he stands up on a car
734
00:44:13,488 --> 00:44:14,348
and he gets everybody's attention.
735
00:44:14,528 --> 00:44:15,908
He says, stop the violence.
736
00:44:16,328 --> 00:44:18,028
If you're gonna hurt someone, hurt me
737
00:44:18,028 --> 00:44:20,348
because we will never win with violence.
738
00:44:20,448 --> 00:44:21,868
We must win with peace.
739
00:44:21,948 --> 00:44:24,548
That's exactly what his brother MLK said all along.
740
00:44:24,628 --> 00:44:26,828
It's why they were able to change the world
741
00:44:26,828 --> 00:44:28,588
because of that peaceful message.
742
00:44:28,708 --> 00:44:30,008
But the part that stuck with me the most,
743
00:44:30,068 --> 00:44:31,668
I don't know if you can tell there in the church,
744
00:44:31,968 --> 00:44:33,148
my kids were all sitting down there
745
00:44:33,148 --> 00:44:34,168
on the first couple of rows
746
00:44:34,168 --> 00:44:36,588
and Alvy's telling us all these stories,
747
00:44:36,628 --> 00:44:38,188
and all of a sudden she stops, she looks at my kids,
748
00:44:38,468 --> 00:44:41,348
and she goes, you know, we're the same race.
749
00:44:42,548 --> 00:44:44,788
My kids are about as lily white as you can get, all right?
750
00:44:45,268 --> 00:44:46,568
She says, we're the same race.
751
00:44:46,848 --> 00:44:48,868
They're looking at her confused, I'm looking at her confused,
752
00:44:48,948 --> 00:44:50,868
and she goes, there's only one human race.
753
00:44:51,528 --> 00:44:53,208
And she said, I got white brothers and sisters,
754
00:44:53,328 --> 00:44:55,248
I got black brothers and sisters, I got red brothers and sisters.
755
00:44:55,608 --> 00:44:58,148
I said, man, that is, and she literally, she said to us right then,
756
00:44:58,168 --> 00:44:59,868
she said, that was Uncle Martin's dream,
757
00:45:00,148 --> 00:45:02,028
that we would be judged by the content of our character,
758
00:45:02,028 --> 00:45:03,728
not the color of our skin.
759
00:45:03,728 --> 00:45:06,728
See, if we can get a hold of that, we can solve all this racial...
760
00:45:15,728 --> 00:45:18,368
I'm telling you, watch that episode, Chasing American Legends.
761
00:45:18,588 --> 00:45:21,008
It's called Communist King or Peaceful Crusader.
762
00:45:21,328 --> 00:45:23,388
People used to accuse MLK of being a communist.
763
00:45:23,488 --> 00:45:27,968
Absolutely not true, and we reveal all that in the episode, and it'll inspire you.
764
00:45:28,068 --> 00:45:31,768
But all of that to say, I was giving you some of those military heroes, Civil War and Revolutionary War.
765
00:45:31,768 --> 00:45:35,688
I just think it's important for us to recognize the freedom that we have comes at a cost.
766
00:45:36,508 --> 00:45:37,988
We're a little bit spoiled in America.
767
00:45:38,128 --> 00:45:38,768
I mean, let's admit it.
768
00:45:38,828 --> 00:45:42,988
We have all these blessings of liberty, and most of us have never had to pay a price for that.
769
00:45:43,448 --> 00:45:44,648
Others have paid that price.
770
00:45:45,228 --> 00:45:48,668
And so we've been given this freedom, and now the question is, what are we going to do with it?
771
00:45:48,728 --> 00:45:50,188
Are we going to be responsible with it?
772
00:45:50,228 --> 00:45:51,948
Are we going to actually live it out?
773
00:45:51,968 --> 00:45:54,948
The Bible tells us we should render honor unto whom honor is due.
774
00:45:55,548 --> 00:45:58,908
So whether it's our military veterans, our first responders, our police officers,
775
00:45:58,908 --> 00:46:03,208
all those people that put their lives on the line so that we can be free,
776
00:46:03,508 --> 00:46:06,648
part of how we honor them is actually living the freedom.
777
00:46:07,408 --> 00:46:09,328
Now think about what it says to a military veteran
778
00:46:09,328 --> 00:46:11,448
that was willing to go lay down their life,
779
00:46:11,508 --> 00:46:13,588
or someone that did die for our freedom,
780
00:46:14,068 --> 00:46:16,228
and then we don't even use our freedom.
781
00:46:16,788 --> 00:46:18,188
We don't even show up to vote.
782
00:46:18,348 --> 00:46:21,708
We don't even do the very thing they died to protect.
783
00:46:22,608 --> 00:46:25,048
See, we do the opposite whenever we actually follow
784
00:46:25,048 --> 00:46:26,948
what Abraham Lincoln said at the Gettysburg Address.
785
00:46:26,948 --> 00:46:34,508
He said, it's from these honored dead that we take an increased devotion to the cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion.
786
00:46:34,908 --> 00:46:39,148
An increased devotion to the cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion.
787
00:46:39,228 --> 00:46:42,608
Well, what's the cause for which they were willing to die?
788
00:46:42,968 --> 00:46:44,608
It's called American exceptionalism.
789
00:46:44,688 --> 00:46:45,428
It's the system.
790
00:46:45,608 --> 00:46:47,848
It's the political and economic structures.
791
00:46:48,088 --> 00:46:49,388
And some people don't like that term.
792
00:46:49,468 --> 00:46:50,548
They say, oh, Rick, you're bragging.
793
00:46:51,308 --> 00:46:52,488
Now, look, I'm a Texan.
794
00:46:54,448 --> 00:46:56,568
We Texans know a little something about bragging.
795
00:46:56,568 --> 00:46:59,688
I mean, we Texans tend to believe there's only two kinds of people in the world.
796
00:47:00,208 --> 00:47:03,288
There are Texans, and there are those that want to be Texans.
797
00:47:03,448 --> 00:47:03,828
That's it.
798
00:47:04,848 --> 00:47:07,248
Now, that is not a true statement, right?
799
00:47:07,308 --> 00:47:08,148
So that's bragging.
800
00:47:08,568 --> 00:47:11,568
My mom always said, though, if it's true, it ain't bragging.
801
00:47:12,208 --> 00:47:15,628
And when we say American exceptionalism, it's true.
802
00:47:16,048 --> 00:47:19,168
America is the exception to the rule.
803
00:47:19,688 --> 00:47:22,268
And actually, just to give you some proof that I'm not bragging here,
804
00:47:22,268 --> 00:47:25,808
this whole thing was created, this phrase was created by a Frenchman.
805
00:47:26,568 --> 00:47:31,208
de toqueville's the one that came up with this idea he saw what was happening in america and so
806
00:47:31,208 --> 00:47:37,848
what it really means exceptionalism actually just means extraordinary it means extra ordinary not
807
00:47:37,848 --> 00:47:44,568
ordinary beyond ordinary beyond normal that's the story of america and it's because of the principles
808
00:47:44,568 --> 00:47:49,928
not even because of the people but because of the principles that were put in place and we've enjoyed
809
00:47:49,928 --> 00:47:53,528
the blessings of that here's the danger here's where we are now president reagan said if we
810
00:47:53,528 --> 00:47:59,048
forget what we did, we won't know who we are. He said, a morning of an eradication of the American
811
00:47:59,048 --> 00:48:05,168
memory that could result ultimately in an erosion of the American spirit. Are we experiencing that
812
00:48:05,168 --> 00:48:09,248
or not? Let's start with some basics, more attention to American history, and a greater emphasis
813
00:48:09,248 --> 00:48:15,728
on civic ritual. If we forget what we did, we won't know who we are. I would submit to you this morning
814
00:48:15,728 --> 00:48:23,108
that both the riots in the streets and the what I call COVID crackdowns, governors across the
815
00:48:23,108 --> 00:48:29,828
country acting like dictators and trying to control the movement and the lives of every person in their
816
00:48:29,828 --> 00:48:34,368
state without constitutional authority, literally acting as dictators and emperors and empresses,
817
00:48:34,848 --> 00:48:40,508
I believe that both of those things are the result of the true pandemic which has been
818
00:48:40,508 --> 00:48:47,828
festering underneath for now five decades, civic ignorance. It's not an insult to our intelligence,
819
00:48:47,828 --> 00:48:48,828
It just means we don't know.
820
00:48:49,428 --> 00:48:51,828
We haven't been taught our true history,
821
00:48:52,188 --> 00:48:56,188
and we haven't been taught what is the formula that actually produces freedom.
822
00:48:56,508 --> 00:49:00,008
If you want freedom and liberty and prosperity and all those things on this side of the equation,
823
00:49:00,308 --> 00:49:03,888
you've got to think about what are the inputs that produce those outputs,
824
00:49:04,188 --> 00:49:09,268
and what are the inputs that actually produce division,
825
00:49:09,888 --> 00:49:13,308
that produce causing us to hate each other and causing us to fight.
826
00:49:13,388 --> 00:49:15,548
So what are we inputting on this side of the equation
827
00:49:15,548 --> 00:49:18,188
is going to determine what we get on the other side of the equation.
828
00:49:18,188 --> 00:49:21,108
And we have to know where we came from in the first place to do this.
829
00:49:21,348 --> 00:49:21,948
And welcome back.
830
00:49:22,868 --> 00:49:28,388
If you want to learn more, I suggest visiting the Patriot Academy or the YouTube link if
831
00:49:28,388 --> 00:49:32,348
you want to watch the rest of the sermon and go track down Rick Green's talks and some
832
00:49:32,348 --> 00:49:35,468
of his family and some of the people on the Patriot Academy team.
833
00:49:35,628 --> 00:49:39,548
You're going to learn a lot about the founding of our country and the values that were baked
834
00:49:39,548 --> 00:49:44,328
into our constitution and government and how we can make a better future together.
835
00:49:44,328 --> 00:49:56,188
What they are doing with young people is amazing with their mock halls of Congress, where they learn how things actually happen in government from nominations to bills passing and voting and everything in between there.
836
00:49:56,488 --> 00:50:10,428
And another essential reference for biblical citizenship, which is one of their classes they do, is the Founders Bible, which walks through the history of our nation and the founders and the references to the Bible in unison there.
837
00:50:10,428 --> 00:50:29,388
And if you want to see that letter that first referenced separation of church and state from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Church that was used to push to prove that Christianity didn't belong in the government, then check it out and get to hear the rest of the story like Paul Harvey would say.
838
00:50:29,968 --> 00:50:32,168
And I also have a link to the letter in below.
839
00:50:32,688 --> 00:50:33,128
Donations.
840
00:50:33,268 --> 00:50:35,808
On the donation fronts, no new things have come in.
841
00:50:36,488 --> 00:50:40,868
We're still waiting on a couple more things to get other things set up outside of Fountain,
842
00:50:41,108 --> 00:50:43,108
but it's just a work in progress here.
843
00:50:43,688 --> 00:50:46,328
A monthly supporter is only $3.50.
844
00:50:46,888 --> 00:50:49,288
And if you haven't seen the website, please take a look.
845
00:50:49,288 --> 00:50:54,228
A lot has been added every single week that we're finding more helpful links,
846
00:50:54,388 --> 00:50:59,308
and we've been keeping up with the calendar, church, and business list, and everything else.
847
00:50:59,688 --> 00:51:03,528
If you want to get a shout out on here and become a monthly supporter,
848
00:51:03,528 --> 00:51:07,188
just make a donation of 1959, which is the year we were incorporated,
849
00:51:07,788 --> 00:51:10,568
or otherwise you'll be anonymous if you say that.
850
00:51:11,208 --> 00:51:13,948
I hope some business people want to support and make this even better.
851
00:51:14,388 --> 00:51:17,468
Make sure and be a producer and subscribe with others.
852
00:51:17,688 --> 00:51:21,288
Tell others about this broadcast and get the news out to everyone in Fairview.
853
00:51:21,888 --> 00:51:25,288
I need to catch up on some social media things to get the word out,
854
00:51:25,388 --> 00:51:28,848
but I'm trying to get the websites and payment stuff figured out first.
855
00:51:29,508 --> 00:51:31,648
Again, thank you.
856
00:51:31,648 --> 00:51:38,268

If you have an idea or suggestion, please share it with us.
859
00:51:43,168 --> 00:51:45,568
We are getting emails from people and responding to them.
860
00:51:45,608 --> 00:51:49,808
And we've been adding stuff to the weekly podcast based on their feedback.
861
00:51:49,848 --> 00:51:50,628
And this is there.
862
00:51:50,728 --> 00:51:52,048
You are a producer of this show.
863
00:51:52,108 --> 00:51:52,848
You're part of it.
864
00:51:53,408 --> 00:51:54,928
And you can help with your talent.
865
00:51:54,928 --> 00:51:59,308

00:51:59,308 --> 00:52:00,148
