EP: 5 Back to School

This is the Fairview, TN News from Oct 8-15th 2025.

Welcome to Episode 5 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.  This is a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire.  Local Radio stations don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.  This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive.  This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, almost 18 years ago.

Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know.  You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value.  Some shows will be longer, others shorter, but I will do my best to keep things relevant.

Traffic Time

Cumberland and 100 are a little better than last week; they got it done in time for school. We will see how it goes.  They were able to grade and pave the new ramp down to 100 to help with visibility.  One thing that stands out is that there still should have been a right-turn lane there since they already got that land from the corner lot.  Another 16 feet would have made life for everyone who lives there so much better, because even with a red light, the morning and afternoon rush will continue to back up to the middle school. There will be more closures, and we will see how things go because they are not giving us a plan; they are just telling us a week in advance, at most.  It looks like there will be some more grading and drainage work to make the turn lane into Cumberland from 100, so we will see how those closures go throughout the week.

Redlight Update – We currently have three (Old Cox, Publix, & Walmart). Still, we will soon be getting one at the new City Center Entrance and at the Cumberland and 100 intersection when that expansion occurs. I’m not sure how it will help or hurt yet, but I hope the crossing guard can control it during the morning and evening school rush.

City Center – There will still be some construction closures here and there.

Future Projects – I still need to find out more about this project because I wonder what the costs of these sidewalks will be to understand whether it will be worth it when the dust settles, and one day the road gets widened and they will have to be torn up and replaced again.  I know we are stuck in a loop where we are not big enough to expand, and we are not big enough to grow.

Future Projects – Sidewalks from Fairview Rec Center to Bowie Park (TDOT State Project 94013-2220-14 (2220 Right of Way, 3220 Construction) July 21st 2026

County Side Note – There is a new Greenways Plan Survey available for you to complete between now and October 23rd.  This will tell the county how to plan their next design workshop and what people think.  https://www.williamsoncounty-tn.gov/Greenways, and some details on the plan can be found here https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:1a33a0c4-6809-436d-b8c9-737b53f7002e

    4. Talked about a landscape buffer on the Crow Cut side of the property. Talked about how they like the lot layout and how it would be a good family subdivision, and would like to see more open spaces.  Discussion from the Town Lawyer about what they are voting for because the applicant gave more information than was required, and if they want to add something as a contingency is possible. There isn’t an official buffer requirement from Mr. Greer.  Talked about some Water impacts for Well users, but nothing official or binding, the builder said they would look into it.

    5. Mayor Anderson brought up doing the rezoning change first before the final plat recommendation. Town Council and Mr. Pape discussed the precedence of completing the Final Plat before the Zoning change, and that this request is for the split zone.  The trailer will be removed, and the shop will be destroyed on these two new sub lots.  Lots of discussions about whether staff recommendations have been overturned, and the response was yes.
  16. City Dept Updates
    1. City Planning Staff – No Updates, 65-70 Letters for the Rural Retreat standards related to the race track in Fernvale. Talked about the 150 comments and utilities, buffers, trees, roadways, and things during the Code-a-poolza event, and those things turned into the development plan.
    2. City Manager – No Updates
    3. City Engineer – No Updates
    4. City Attorney – Thanked the group for working together on things and being a team.
  17. Planning Roundtable
    1. King – Talked about the detention pond in Otter Creek, who is responsible, and how the bonds work with the City.
    2. Dawson – Talked about when they did the 2040 plan, we took ads out in the paper, and how we can make sure people know about this new development code. When can we have another meeting before the vote to give people a chance to get here, and how are we going to communicate?
    3. Schilling – Digital Boards could help you to possibly raise money, with maybe even birthday announcements to be sold.
    4. Anderson – Talked about the paper agenda, the dates, and how things are posted. They are missing the acreage that was brought up and how the same update can help make that happen, along with Mr. Greer. We brought up the final zoning draft plan on November 18th. One citizen showed up the other day for about 40 minutes, and that was the only in-person public opinion.  The joint workshop won’t have a chance to speak.  Public hearings will be at the PC and BOC, and one more meeting, so there will be opportunities to talk.  We cannot post updates to a newspaper since Main Street pulled out of the town, and we could use the Digital Boards to let people know about this meeting at City Center.
    5. Schulist – Thank you to the staff. Talked about the text being small and trying to figure out the text scaling.  Talked about going on, looking at the old approved Plats with IDT, and it’s not possible now with the new system. Mr. Greer will upload some of those documents.
    6. Pape – New Agenda is looking good and is more helpful to the public. Asked about how to do the updates to the development code plans.  Talked about the citizen comments, and there is a long list of items that were not incorporated because they were deemed inconsequential by the City Planning group, and some state laws prohibit some changes.   There wasn’t much notice for the code update meeting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxFp3jt6G1E&t=233s .
    7. Cali – Thank you to the staff
    8. McDonald – No Updates
    9. Ritt – No Updates

  2. The School Voucher Program is planned for expansion, so there will be some discussion about that.
  3. December 2 will be the final special election for the 7th District US House Seat, with Aftyn Behn for the Democrats and Matt Van Epps for the Republicans, based on the primary results.
  4. Music City Loop is now starting some exploratory drilling.

The Bills

Here is what we have for this week.  Wow, I found a real agenda with helpful information.  When things are not public and posted, meetings feel secretive and unaccountable because they are spending our taxes without any disclosure outside those rooms, and, of course, the news doesn’t cover this.  I want to try and do more here, but that will require some additional work.  I would love to conduct an interview with some people for this segment as a special episode.

How’s the hill, weather report

Back to it, How’s the hill?  Passable, Fall is here, Runny Noses incoming, with low temperatures in the high 40s and 50s and around 70-80 highs.  The weather gurus are expecting some Rain heading our way this weekend, possibly, but we will be into the 40s with highs in the mid-70s until next week.

New Businesses

Nothing New was spotted.  There is still an open slot at Publix in Bowie Commons.  Other than that, I spotted nothing new this week, and I'm waiting to see what else is coming.

https://www.loopnet.com/search/commercial-real-estate/fairview-tn/for-sale/

Make sure to head to the Farmers Market every Saturday Morning  8AM to 12PM (Not Earlier as other posts have posted) at Meseck Chiropractor and Fairview Fresh Deli for their life-changing Apple Fritters, located down the road from Publix.  So many good places to get fresh breads and treats, local fruits and vegetables, along with some beef, pork, hot sauce, fishing lures, and other holiday gifts this time of the year.

Brick and Mortar Highlight

Jingo Java

This is our Coffee and Drink shop that isn’t owned by a chain.  They are located out on 96 by Vigilance Martial Arts near the merge to 100.  They do a lot for the community and local charities through some of their events, like Team Teal.  They also have another mobile location you may see around town and at events.  They have a Fall Vendor Event on October 18th, featuring local vendors like Doughy Duos with their breads and other treats, a Jewelry vendor, and a couple others, so check them out.  They are always supporting our schools with drinks related to the current plays at the Middle and High School, and always coming up with new beverages, so you won’t ever get bored there with options.

https://www.jingojava.com/

Local Business Highlight

Kennedy Builders LLC

https://bobkennedybuilders.com/gallery.html

This is a local home builder that is known for custom homes in our area.  He has built many beautiful homes in and around Fairview.  He was Bob the builder before Bob was a builder.   Just look at his gallery or get some of the addresses of his builds and you won’t be disappointed from just the outside not counting all the custom things he does on the inside.

History Nugget

Veterans Memorial Park at Evergreen Lake

Located within the Evergreen Industrial Park, just off Highway 96, Veterans Memorial Park is a 5-acre city-owned park that offers a peaceful setting for walking, jogging, picnicking, and fishing. The park features a lake, a footbridge, and a trail encircling the water, making it a scenic spot for relaxation and outdoor activities.  Originally part of Dr. Evangeline Bowie’s estate, the land was given to the City of Fairview along with Bowie Nature Park. While the lake was used informally for fishing for years, it wasn’t until 2012 that the city officially designated it as a public park, later renaming it to honor U.S. veterans. Since then, the city has made improvements to the park, clearing brush, adding seating, and stocking the lake with fish. Today, it is home to the annual Fishing Rodeo, held every June.

  9. From the pictures, we can see 38 Parking spaces (2 Handicap, 36 Spots), 24 Bay Market Pavilion (30’x112’), Unloading Zone for Sellers to drop stuff off and then park, Restroom with Storage, 21k SQ Foot Amphitheater and Lawn (111 feet from the Farmers Market to the Amphitheater Pavilion), Expanded Pond from the existing, 6’ Concrete walkway around the Perimeter, Grass Pavers for truck turnaround on the path (band gear), five small lots for future historical building expansions. This will add to the 13 Spots (2 Handicap, 11 Spots) completed as part of a previous improvement at the Triangle School.  This is more parking in total than available at the current Farmers Market. Since vehicles aren’t part of the vendor setup, there will only be 10-15 spots left, which is a little less. We also don’t know enough about this to understand how it will impact our local businesses.  Right now, the space is donated and supported by Meseck Chiropractic, which has provided the vendors at no charge, helping immensely.  At other city-run farmers’ markets, there is a fee of 75-200 dollars for the season, with the same amount of profit lost before they sell their first product. They also have a difficult time figuring out who should come and deny other applications, which hurts other potential businesses, as they cannot participate, and when someone doesn’t show up, there is now a spot that cannot be filled.  The current system seems to have worked well, as it was at the Recreation Center and is now at Meseck Chiropractic, with vendors naturally coming and going throughout the year.  It’s not like it’s perfect right now, but I think this could make it worse for each vendor. We will have to see what details are at this meeting.
  10. Dickson Farmers Market (May through December)

For the Kids

There are numerous options in Fairview to keep your kids involved in activities and sports.  There is a thriving Girl Scout and Scouts BSA Programs in Fairview. There are many recreation and travel teams.  There is also LaLa’s Dance Studio and Elevate Gymnastics and Cheer.  There is also an excellent Taekwondo and Jujitsu school that teaches more than just moves, called Vigilance Martial Arts.  We also have a great wrestling program with some summer options.

Jackets Youth Wrestling has an Open Gym Night on October 10th, which looks to have been a success with Elevate Gymnasiums and Cheer.

Faith Moment

This is a long one, but a good one.  This is from Phil Robertson, who has had a fantastic journey and made a significant impact on our Christian World in America and around the world, too.  You may have heard of him from the Duck Dynasty TV Show, where he and his family had adventures, always with a focus on faith and morals —a great family show.   This message emphasizes that he is imperfect, as are many people in the Bible, but that we have a path of redemption.  This is an excellent example of everyday people becoming Christian figures, making a difference through their own Gospel, bringing more people into the Church, and saving their own lives.

1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:06,920
Howdy and welcome to episode five of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here

2
00:00:06,920 --> 00:00:10,180
in Fairview for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.

3
00:00:10,380 --> 00:00:15,680
This is a weekly show released every Wednesday featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire

4
00:00:15,680 --> 00:00:19,060
local radio stations don't exist in small towns like ours.

5
00:00:19,140 --> 00:00:24,120
So we'll use Hello Fairview to kind of fill that void of news related items to people for

6
00:00:24,120 --> 00:00:24,500
Fairview.

7
00:00:24,680 --> 00:00:28,860
This is a value for value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value

8
00:00:28,860 --> 00:00:29,420
you receive.

9
00:00:29,420 --> 00:00:37,100
This concept was founded by the podfather himself, Adam Curry, and his co-host, John C. Dvorak, of the No Agenda Show almost 18 years ago.

10
00:00:37,700 --> 00:00:45,240
Currently, this is still just a one-man operation, so you have any of the ideas, events, business opportunities, job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know.

11
00:00:45,760 --> 00:00:47,440
You are a producer of this show.

12
00:00:47,600 --> 00:00:53,360
You are not the product because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value like many others.

13
00:00:53,360 --> 00:00:58,760
some shows will be longer some shows will be shorter but i'll do my best to always keep things

14
00:00:58,760 --> 00:01:05,320
relevant to what's going on traffic time cumberland and 100 are a little bit better than they were

15
00:01:05,320 --> 00:01:10,000
last week uh they got everything done in time for school so we'll see how it goes and everything

16
00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:15,780
looks like it's okay so far this week uh they were able to grade and pave that new ramp down to 100

17
00:01:15,780 --> 00:01:21,180
to help with visibility on the cumberland side and one thing that stands out that should be there

18
00:01:21,180 --> 00:01:28,500
should have probably been a right-hand turn lane from Cumberland going into 100. That would have

19
00:01:28,500 --> 00:01:33,060
definitely helped a lot of traffic because more people are going into town instead of out of town

20
00:01:33,060 --> 00:01:38,420
from there. A turn lane both directions. I think another 16 to 20 feet would have been made

21
00:01:38,420 --> 00:01:44,440
everyone's life easier because even with the red light, the morning and afternoon rush will continue

22
00:01:44,440 --> 00:01:49,520
to back up all the way to the middle school and beyond. We know there's going to be continue to

23
00:01:49,520 --> 00:01:54,800
be more closures at this intersection as things are widened and drainage and everything else going

24
00:01:54,800 --> 00:01:59,180
on between there. And they're only telling us about a week in advance. So we're going to keep

25
00:01:59,180 --> 00:02:05,580
our eyes on that. It looks like there's going to be more grading and drainage work done on the way

26
00:02:05,580 --> 00:02:10,960
to Cumberland and 100. So we're going to see how that goes as they close that. So red light updates,

27
00:02:10,960 --> 00:02:16,380
we currently have three at Old Cox, Publix and Walmart. Still, there's the one done at City

28
00:02:16,380 --> 00:02:21,880
center the poles replaced about a week and some change ago at the there and eventually there'll

29
00:02:21,880 --> 00:02:25,960
be another red light at that cumberland 100 intersection as you're going into the middle

30
00:02:25,960 --> 00:02:32,260
school so we'll see if that's going to hurt or help and only time will kind of tell i just hope

31
00:02:32,260 --> 00:02:38,900
that the crossing guard at 100 in cumberland will have control of that with this morning and evening

32
00:02:38,900 --> 00:02:44,780
school rush city center there's still going to be construction closures up and down here and there

33
00:02:44,780 --> 00:02:50,060
They're doing a lot of stuff right now in the interior of that city center complex.

34
00:02:50,560 --> 00:02:52,480
So we'll have to see how that goes.

35
00:02:53,400 --> 00:02:54,380
Future projects.

36
00:02:54,480 --> 00:03:05,260
I'm still trying to find more details from TDOT on the cost of the road expansion and the intersection expansion and the sidewalks, which all three things are kind of glump together.

37
00:03:05,780 --> 00:03:07,840
So we're going to keep our eye on that.

38
00:03:07,920 --> 00:03:13,040
We've got the notes of the actual project idea or ID that you can look up and go from there.

39
00:03:13,040 --> 00:03:17,000
So we're growing on the county side.

40
00:03:17,320 --> 00:03:22,500
There is a new Greenways plan survey for you to complete between now and October 23rd.

41
00:03:22,580 --> 00:03:27,520
This will tell the county how they want you to design and workshop some of this stuff.

42
00:03:27,600 --> 00:03:32,120
So think of it as brainstorming for Greenways and public spaces and parks and stuff like that.

43
00:03:32,360 --> 00:03:37,340
And everything can be found in our show notes or on the Williamson County website.

44
00:03:37,340 --> 00:03:45,680
And back to our city news on October 11th was the ribbon cutting for the Storybook Trail, which was an awesome event.

45
00:03:46,560 --> 00:03:48,720
And they have a very cool entrance.

46
00:03:48,860 --> 00:03:50,440
I'm pretty excited how that is.

47
00:03:50,660 --> 00:03:52,700
And I think it was a good addition to the park.

48
00:03:53,560 --> 00:03:59,640
The Fairview, Tennessee, Tennessee Police Department has a shop with a cop program.

49
00:03:59,900 --> 00:04:01,540
And the applications are open.

50
00:04:02,180 --> 00:04:05,340
Applications can be picked up from the Fairview Police Department starting today.

51
00:04:05,340 --> 00:04:09,880
This is the October 15th, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

52
00:04:09,980 --> 00:04:19,340
Applications must be completed in full with the participant information for each child and return no later than 4 p.m. on November 14th.

53
00:04:19,880 --> 00:04:24,660
So we continue to give thanks to our community and local businesses that have supported us throughout the years.

54
00:04:25,120 --> 00:04:30,400
Donations can be made at any time as we continue to preparing for this year's and next year's programs.

55
00:04:30,400 --> 00:04:37,120
donations can be dropped off at city hall or the police department or mailed to the city of fairview

56
00:04:37,680 --> 00:04:44,320
po box 69 here in fairview 37062 so you can definitely support that it's a really great

57
00:04:44,320 --> 00:04:50,640
program so here are some of the recaps from our last meetings uh there wasn't any zoning appeals

58
00:04:50,640 --> 00:04:54,640
meetings there was a planning commission meeting and so there's actually a lot of stuff in this one

59
00:04:54,640 --> 00:05:01,400
So that was October 4th. That was yesterday. There was it was two hours and five minutes of stuff.

60
00:05:01,540 --> 00:05:08,320
The agenda was only posted just a couple of days before. And that was because of October fall break going on.

61
00:05:08,440 --> 00:05:12,820
So it kind of got lost in the sauce there. Only around 10 people showed up for this one.

62
00:05:12,960 --> 00:05:17,320
I put links in there for the 2040 plan and the legacy map right there.

63
00:05:17,320 --> 00:05:24,640
and the public comments only two people came that was two residents of otter creek talking about the

64
00:05:24,640 --> 00:05:30,480
detention pond and the flooding that already happens on those roads when rain happens along

65
00:05:30,480 --> 00:05:37,200
with them not being a fence around that detention pond and there's been kids playing in it there was

66
00:05:37,200 --> 00:05:44,900
no old business there was only new business which there was eight items and out of all these 183

67
00:05:44,900 --> 00:05:50,280
homes were tentatively approved. Obviously, there's still final plat for some of these.

68
00:05:50,280 --> 00:05:57,440
Some of these were their final plats. So around 180 homes were approved throughout all these votes.

69
00:05:58,080 --> 00:06:06,640
So we had one on 7111 Harrison Drive. That was RS40 to RS10. That was unanimous.

70
00:06:07,720 --> 00:06:14,340
And there was one existing house and they're going to build 10 new houses. And then PC resolution,

71
00:06:14,340 --> 00:06:22,880
3925 was the final plat for reserves on chester which was another 46 houses and that was another

72
00:06:22,880 --> 00:06:33,060
unanimous decision and pc 4025 was the final plat for the city center and that one showed 31 new

73
00:06:33,060 --> 00:06:37,740
lots these are the first sets of townhomes that obviously there's a lot more phases coming that

74
00:06:37,740 --> 00:06:43,740
was yes nine zero everything have they did talk about the pump house that's on the highway 100

75
00:06:43,740 --> 00:06:49,640
part, which is starting to get constructed there. That used to be a house before a tree happened to

76
00:06:49,640 --> 00:06:55,200
fall on it. And I guess that resident got their insurance money and got out or got it bought by

77
00:06:55,200 --> 00:07:00,720
the subdivision because that wasn't originally part of their plan. So it was amended in this

78
00:07:00,720 --> 00:07:09,380
part of it too. Resolution 4125 was the final plat for Otter Creek. That was a unanimous decision,

79
00:07:09,380 --> 00:07:20,500
nine zero and that was 43 no more homes uh pc resolution 4225 was 7104 hall road uh and that

80
00:07:20,500 --> 00:07:28,860
one was four to five unanimous four to five no uh so this one actually got voted down this would

81
00:07:28,860 --> 00:07:33,660
have been about five new lots and basically why this one got voted down from the discussion

82
00:07:33,660 --> 00:07:39,920
afterwards was because the current zoning of RS40 would allow five houses on that lot

83
00:07:39,920 --> 00:07:44,980
and RS15 could allow more even though they're geographically not able to.

84
00:07:45,420 --> 00:07:49,400
So they just went ahead and denied it because it would have only been the difference between

85
00:07:49,400 --> 00:07:54,160
six houses on that property or five houses and they could have picked a different zoning

86
00:07:54,160 --> 00:07:55,360
that would have been there.

87
00:07:55,460 --> 00:07:57,560
I think they just went too low with RS15.

88
00:07:57,560 --> 00:08:01,160
They should have just did RS20 and they've probably been good to go.

89
00:08:01,160 --> 00:08:10,460
uh pc resolution 4325 this was the cove on crocut road this is 50 houses this was a unanimous

90
00:08:10,460 --> 00:08:16,340
decision also they talked a lot about the landscape buffer on the crocut side of property

91
00:08:16,340 --> 00:08:20,740
talked about how they liked the layout and basically there was a centralized little hangout

92
00:08:20,740 --> 00:08:27,620
spot and it is going to be a good family uh space for a subdivision there was also discussion from

93
00:08:27,620 --> 00:08:32,280
the town lawyer and about what they were voting on because the applicant was technically giving

94
00:08:32,280 --> 00:08:37,060
more information than was required. And if they want to add something as a contingency,

95
00:08:37,060 --> 00:08:44,480
that is possible as part of this. There isn't an official buffer requirement from Mr. Greer

96
00:08:44,480 --> 00:08:49,100
when they talked about this. They talked about some water impacts for well users,

97
00:08:49,280 --> 00:08:54,960
but nothing official or binding. The builder said they would look into it. And the amendment for the

98
00:08:54,960 --> 00:09:01,020
buffer was voted on nine zero and then of course the rest of it was voted on yes too so that was

99
00:09:01,020 --> 00:09:09,740
another 50 houses heading out on crocut road pc uh hyphen 4425 this is the eries estate uh this is

100
00:09:09,740 --> 00:09:15,280
not unanimous decision also this is three new lots so that's just like a nice little one which

101
00:09:15,280 --> 00:09:23,040
i guess is good but that was zero houses to three houses pc resolution 4525 was the final plat phase

102
00:09:23,040 --> 00:09:32,360
two for the Gary McDonald subdivision on Harely Road and Highway 96. This was 8-1. This is

103
00:09:32,360 --> 00:09:38,060
basically a weird kind of slice and dice of an existing piece of property. No houses are planned.

104
00:09:38,220 --> 00:09:43,960
There's going to be a shed that's destroyed and a trailer that's moved, and the staff recommendations

105
00:09:43,960 --> 00:09:51,120
were to go for it. And so Mr. Pape talked about the precedence of completing the final

106
00:09:51,120 --> 00:09:56,180
plat before the zoning change since it's being split up at the same time but this is what the

107
00:09:56,180 --> 00:10:01,960
city recommended when they submitted their application city of department updates city

108
00:10:01,960 --> 00:10:07,760
planning staff nothing no big updates but then once they got into discussion there were 65 to 70

109
00:10:07,760 --> 00:10:14,760
letter letters related to the rural retreat out in fernville and racetrack they took a talked about

110
00:10:14,760 --> 00:10:21,520
150 comments about the Codapalooza and how those were integrated into the new development plan.

111
00:10:22,120 --> 00:10:26,640
City manager had no update. City engineer had no update. City attorney thanked the group for

112
00:10:26,640 --> 00:10:30,160
everything there. And then the planning roundtable, which was at the end of this,

113
00:10:30,820 --> 00:10:36,740
Mr. King talked about Otter Creek and who's responsible when it does flood, if it does flood.

114
00:10:37,280 --> 00:10:42,200
Mr. Dawson talked about the 2040 plan and how they took ads out in the paper.

115
00:10:42,200 --> 00:10:47,800
there is no more main street fairview paper anymore so that doesn't work uh and how they can

116
00:10:47,800 --> 00:10:53,500
figure out about this development code and how we can give people more chances to talk about this

117
00:10:53,500 --> 00:10:58,700
code because it's going to be one of the biggest things that happens to us in the past 15 20 years

118
00:10:58,700 --> 00:11:03,280
when it comes to a city miss shilling talked about digital boards and maybe we could actually

119
00:11:03,280 --> 00:11:09,020
buy one instead of using a temporary one and that way we could even use it to place ads like happy

120
00:11:09,020 --> 00:11:14,140
birthday to the grandkid or whatever and raise a little revenue there instead of there.

121
00:11:15,300 --> 00:11:19,460
Mayor Anderson talked a lot about the paper agenda, the dates and how things are posted.

122
00:11:19,840 --> 00:11:25,340
If you even noticed in my notes, the acreage is gone and that's because Mr. Greer is trying to

123
00:11:25,340 --> 00:11:32,420
change what he's posting on there. So they brought up that the final zoning draft plan is on November

124
00:11:32,420 --> 00:11:39,920
18th. And that back in the day, only one citizen showed up that day on Cotapalooza for 40 minutes.

125
00:11:40,440 --> 00:11:45,280
But this is also during the day, work hours, all that kind of stuff. The joint workshop,

126
00:11:45,780 --> 00:11:51,120
when that comes up in November, you won't have a chance to speak, but there are three

127
00:11:51,120 --> 00:11:55,120
public speaking options, the next border commissioner meeting, the next planning

128
00:11:55,120 --> 00:12:01,020
commission meeting, and then the meeting right before that. So we couldn't post any updates

129
00:12:01,020 --> 00:12:03,560
because of the Fairview stuff that we talked about digital boards.

130
00:12:04,360 --> 00:12:09,060
Ms. Shoelist, thanks to the staff, talked about the techs being small

131
00:12:09,060 --> 00:12:11,100
and trying to figure out how to do that,

132
00:12:11,180 --> 00:12:15,960
and talked about looking at the old approved plans and plats with IDT,

133
00:12:16,080 --> 00:12:19,240
which was the old system, and to see if it's possible to move it over.

134
00:12:19,440 --> 00:12:21,260
And Mr. Greer said he could move some of that stuff over.

135
00:12:21,880 --> 00:12:26,780
Mr. Pape talked about the new agenda and trying to be more helpful to the public

136
00:12:26,780 --> 00:12:30,400
and asked how updates of the development code plans could be incorporated.

137
00:12:30,400 --> 00:12:32,740
and citizen comments and everything there.

138
00:12:33,800 --> 00:12:37,500
And that a lot of the comments that they got related to it

139
00:12:37,500 --> 00:12:39,780
were inconsequential from the city planning group.

140
00:12:40,080 --> 00:12:45,260
And there's also state laws that prohibit them from making rules on that.

141
00:12:45,820 --> 00:12:47,200
So we'll have to see that.

142
00:12:47,680 --> 00:12:49,520
Mr. Cowley, thanks to the staff.

143
00:12:49,600 --> 00:12:50,840
Mr. McDonald, no updates.

144
00:12:50,980 --> 00:12:52,180
Mr. Ritt, no updates.

145
00:12:52,640 --> 00:12:55,340
So some of the next meetings is October 16th.

146
00:12:55,340 --> 00:12:56,840
Tomorrow is the town hall.

147
00:12:58,100 --> 00:12:59,980
And we'll get into that a little bit more.

148
00:12:59,980 --> 00:13:04,200
and then Board of Commissioners Town Hall is October 28th,

149
00:13:04,200 --> 00:13:06,680
and the Landscape Board is November 12th,

150
00:13:06,680 --> 00:13:10,120
and the next Around Town Coffee is November 3rd,

151
00:13:10,120 --> 00:13:13,220
and so location TBD on that.

152
00:13:13,400 --> 00:13:14,900
So we'll see how that all goes.

153
00:13:14,900 --> 00:13:16,280
State of Tennessee, not in any order,

154
00:13:16,500 --> 00:13:20,880
but basically the Memphis National Guard is still in the news,

155
00:13:20,960 --> 00:13:22,200
and they're not sure how it's going.

156
00:13:22,400 --> 00:13:24,320
Everyone's talking about it's going to be a battle,

157
00:13:24,320 --> 00:13:25,440
and it's going to take a long time.

158
00:13:25,580 --> 00:13:25,960
We'll see.

159
00:13:26,500 --> 00:13:29,360
The school voucher program is planned to get doubled,

160
00:13:29,360 --> 00:13:36,140
And there's been a lot of discussion about that as basically giving more vouchers out because it was just a pilot to begin with.

161
00:13:36,680 --> 00:13:47,760
December 2nd is still going to be the special election for the 7th District House seat with Afton Bin and for the Democrats and Matt Van Epps for the Republicans based on the primary results.

162
00:13:47,960 --> 00:13:51,380
Obviously, there can be more candidates in there, but those are the official nominees.

163
00:13:51,380 --> 00:13:57,500
music city loop is not just a hole it's more holes now because they're doing exploratory drilling

164
00:13:57,500 --> 00:14:04,960
to test for rock samples and all that kind of good stuff so cool the bills uh what we have this

165
00:14:04,960 --> 00:14:10,660
week i found a real agenda on a couple things which has been nice um and when meetings are you

166
00:14:10,660 --> 00:14:15,760
know not even listed it kind of feels secretive and unaccountable because you're spending your

167
00:14:15,760 --> 00:14:20,520
tax money and you don't know what it's actually going for and i'm going to keep trying to do that

168
00:14:20,520 --> 00:14:37,980
But today, October 15th, the Joint Evaluation Committee on Education, Health and General Welfare is meeting and they're getting a presentation from the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Tennessee External Affairs, Public Charter School Commission.

169
00:14:37,980 --> 00:14:40,480
So basically all kinds of people there.

170
00:14:40,480 --> 00:14:45,020
And then there's another meeting later today that's the Joint Government Operations Committee,

171
00:14:45,020 --> 00:15:05,482
which basically had five pages of rule updates that appear to reference 541 pages of the Tennessee Congress rules and House rules So too much stuff to get there but there was stuff in there from hemp derived cannabinoid products to air pollution to workers compensation to childcare to speech pathology requirements to highway patrol

172
00:15:05,582 --> 00:15:12,242
to athletic trainers, and to 10 care eligibility. There are a couple more things coming up on

173
00:15:12,242 --> 00:15:18,142
October 20th and October 23rd. The state ways and means meeting is on meeting on the 23rd

174
00:15:18,142 --> 00:15:22,962
and the building commission and executive subcommittees are meeting on October 20th.

175
00:15:23,702 --> 00:15:24,242
How's the hill?

176
00:15:24,762 --> 00:15:26,322
Well, back to how's the hill here.

177
00:15:26,442 --> 00:15:27,042
It's passable.

178
00:15:27,362 --> 00:15:28,402
Fall is officially here.

179
00:15:28,542 --> 00:15:29,742
Runny noses are incoming.

180
00:15:30,262 --> 00:15:36,322
The temperatures are in the high 40s and low 50s for our lows and 70s and 80s for our eyes.

181
00:15:36,822 --> 00:15:41,182
The weather guessers are expecting some rain heading our way this weekend, possibly,

182
00:15:41,462 --> 00:15:46,202
but we'll be down in the 40s to the mid 70s throughout the next week.

183
00:15:46,202 --> 00:15:51,682
still a sprinkle of 80 here and there new businesses nothing new is spotted there's

184
00:15:51,682 --> 00:15:58,602
still some open spots at Bowie Commons at Publix and Bowie Meadows the other subdivision thing

185
00:15:58,602 --> 00:16:02,542
there too but when it comes to new businesses make sure you're always heading to the farmer's

186
00:16:02,542 --> 00:16:07,982
market every Saturday morning 8 a.m to 12 p.m not earlier like anybody else at Messick Chiropractic

187
00:16:07,982 --> 00:16:13,282
and Fairview Fresh Deli Donut for their life-changing apple fritters located down the road from

188
00:16:13,282 --> 00:16:17,402
apple fruit there's so many good places to get fresh breads and treats local fruits and vegetables

189
00:16:17,402 --> 00:16:22,922
along with some beef pork hot sauce fishing lures and holiday a lot of holiday gifts this time of

190
00:16:22,922 --> 00:16:28,342
there so our brick and mortar highlight today um i think they don't really have brick and mortar

191
00:16:28,342 --> 00:16:34,062
right now but jingo java which is our coffee and drink shop that isn't owned by a chain

192
00:16:34,062 --> 00:16:40,362
they're located out on 96 by vigilance martial arts near the merge at 100 they do a lot for the

193
00:16:40,362 --> 00:16:44,702
community. You're always going to see them in a lot of charities and around events. They run an

194
00:16:44,702 --> 00:16:50,102
event called team teal, which is a charity that they help donate money to. They also have another

195
00:16:50,102 --> 00:16:54,962
mobile location that you may see around town and events, another little trailer. Um, they also have

196
00:16:54,962 --> 00:17:00,042
their fall vendor event on October 18th this weekend, which has local vendors like doughy

197
00:17:00,042 --> 00:17:05,182
duos with their breads and treats and a jewelry vendor. And I think two others. So please check

198
00:17:05,182 --> 00:17:09,022
them out on October 18th, just right over there, get your drink, and then you can hang out for a

199
00:17:09,022 --> 00:17:13,882
little bit. They're always supporting our schools with drinks related to current plays in the middle

200
00:17:13,882 --> 00:17:20,642
school and high school. When they had Matilda, they had a couple drinks related to that and then

201
00:17:20,642 --> 00:17:24,422
Adam's family and everything in between there. So they're always coming up with new beverages.

202
00:17:24,722 --> 00:17:29,282
So you'll never run out of options there. Our local business highlight, not brick and mortar,

203
00:17:29,642 --> 00:17:34,782
is Kennedy Builders LLC. This is a local home builder that is known for custom homes in our

204
00:17:34,782 --> 00:17:41,162
area. He has built many beautiful homes in and around Fairview. He was Bob the Builder before Bob

205
00:17:41,162 --> 00:17:47,142
was a builder. His name is Bob Kennedy. And just take a look at his gallery or get a couple

206
00:17:47,142 --> 00:17:51,562
addresses from his builds if you're looking to build a custom home here. And you won't be

207
00:17:51,562 --> 00:17:55,742
disappointed even just from the outside, not counting if you go on the inside of the house.

208
00:17:56,322 --> 00:18:02,042
Job openings, found a good chunk of those this week. It looks like there's a lot more. So city,

209
00:18:02,042 --> 00:18:03,262
We've got a police officer.

210
00:18:03,442 --> 00:18:04,942
Walmart has multiple positions.

211
00:18:05,102 --> 00:18:08,122
Cornerstone Financial has a teller associate.

212
00:18:08,362 --> 00:18:09,802
Publix has a pharmacy tech.

213
00:18:10,242 --> 00:18:12,062
Dunkin' Donuts is looking for a crew member.

214
00:18:12,202 --> 00:18:15,322
Boys and Girls Clubs looking for a membership coordinator, just part-time.

215
00:18:15,762 --> 00:18:18,182
Both Subways are looking for sandwich artists.

216
00:18:18,882 --> 00:18:23,202
The Pearl is looking now for a caregiver, assisted living, and memory care person.

217
00:18:23,582 --> 00:18:25,902
The previous week, they had a housekeeper position.

218
00:18:26,382 --> 00:18:29,562
Taco Bell is looking for a food champion for a closing.

219
00:18:29,862 --> 00:18:31,742
Pizza Hut looking for a team member.

220
00:18:31,742 --> 00:18:37,462
Sonic looking for a crew member. McDonald's is looking for a floor supervisor. So if anyone has

221
00:18:37,462 --> 00:18:41,782
any other job postings or any other sources that you want to read, read weekly, just use the contact

222
00:18:41,782 --> 00:18:48,182
form on the website and we will get to it. History nugget. Um, the veterans Memorial park at Evergreen

223
00:18:48,182 --> 00:18:53,282
Lake. This is located within the Evergreen industrial park, just off highway 96, which is

224
00:18:53,282 --> 00:18:59,242
the veteran Memorial park. It's a five acre city owned a lot that has a people setting for walking,

225
00:18:59,242 --> 00:19:04,062
jogging and picnicking and fishing. This park includes a footbridge, a trail circling around

226
00:19:04,062 --> 00:19:13,702
there. This was originally part of Dr. Evangeline Bowie's estate and the land was given to the city

227
00:19:13,702 --> 00:19:19,322
of Fairview. While the lake was used informally for fishing, it wasn't until 2012 when the city

228
00:19:19,322 --> 00:19:25,902
officially designated it as a public park, later renaming it to the U.S. Veterans. Since the city

229
00:19:25,902 --> 00:19:29,502
has made improvements to the park, clearing brush and adding seating and stocking the lake.

230
00:19:29,962 --> 00:19:34,542
Today, it's home to the annual fishing rodeo, which is held every June, which gives you and

231
00:19:34,542 --> 00:19:39,642
your kids a chance to go fishing without an official fishing license that's actually suspended

232
00:19:39,642 --> 00:19:45,162
for that. So you can go have fun. You'll usually see the Cub Scouts out there that day too.

233
00:19:45,962 --> 00:19:51,462
Upcoming events. Recap. So Bowie Park had the fall fun day at Bowie Park. It was a success.

234
00:19:51,582 --> 00:19:54,842
There was even some helicopters there that was not on the original list. That's awesome.

235
00:19:54,842 --> 00:19:59,322
It was so awesome to see so many people come out and experience young and old.

236
00:19:59,782 --> 00:20:04,522
It was a great job of planning by the city and all the other partners that made it happen.

237
00:20:05,122 --> 00:20:08,882
This was also the same day that they opened up the Storybrooke Trail 2.

238
00:20:10,182 --> 00:20:18,702
And then another recap, the pancake breakfast at the Masonic Lodge looked like it was good because the parking lot was full, which is a sign of some happy bellies.

239
00:20:19,322 --> 00:20:20,902
New things in the town.

240
00:20:20,902 --> 00:20:24,102
We got Jingo Java's Fall Market October 18th.

241
00:20:24,102 --> 00:20:31,682
Dixon, Middle Tennessee Veterans Coalition, will be at Crosspoint Dixon October 21st, 530 to 8 p.m.

242
00:20:32,362 --> 00:20:36,702
The city has the Trunk or Treat October 25th, 4 to 6 p.m.

243
00:20:36,802 --> 00:20:41,282
and a movie in the park following that on the same day, October 25th at 6 p.m.

244
00:20:41,782 --> 00:20:42,662
to wrap that up.

245
00:20:42,742 --> 00:20:43,962
Still haven't seen what movie it is.

246
00:20:44,082 --> 00:20:44,422
We'll see.

247
00:20:45,202 --> 00:20:50,922
Dixon has their Veterans Day Parade, which will take place on Sunday, November 9th in downtown Dixon, starting at 10 a.m.

248
00:20:51,642 --> 00:20:53,902
November 10th is the Marine Corps birthday.

249
00:20:54,102 --> 00:21:01,122
250th birthday, Franklin, November 11th at 11 a.m. Great timing by that team is the Veterans Day

250
00:21:01,122 --> 00:21:06,522
Parade. Our Christmas tree lighting is December 5th at 5 p.m. And the Christmas Parade is December

251
00:21:06,522 --> 00:21:13,102
6th at 10 a.m. So upcoming meetings that are coming up is the Board of Commissioners meeting

252
00:21:13,102 --> 00:21:19,342
tomorrow on the 16th. And the police and fire report will be out there. The finance and city

253
00:21:19,342 --> 00:21:24,922
manager report. There's no old business. There's only a couple things of new business. Basically,

254
00:21:24,922 --> 00:21:32,382
there is a resolution 5725, which is talking about some of the transportation grant that

255
00:21:32,382 --> 00:21:38,582
they're wanting to do where the federal government is giving us 80%, 10% by the state and 10% by the

256
00:21:38,582 --> 00:21:44,662
local. And so that means the cost of Fairview for some of this road expansion is $10,000 to $15,500.

257
00:21:44,662 --> 00:21:51,482
dollars so we'll see how that goes and the one that i'm really interested in is resolution 5825

258
00:21:51,482 --> 00:21:58,102
which is the historical village um i guess it's the final plat the way that they have this uploaded

259
00:21:58,102 --> 00:22:02,402
this is on the website so you'll see these pictures uh basically they're taking a bunch

260
00:22:02,402 --> 00:22:09,662
of the green grass uh that's just hanging out in front of the um historical village where triangle

261
00:22:09,662 --> 00:22:12,842
school is or crossing the rec center and basically filling in with the amphitheater

262
00:22:12,842 --> 00:22:15,402
and a little farmer's market open air structure.

263
00:22:16,062 --> 00:22:21,322
So from the picture, we can see there's 38 parking spaces, two handicapped, 36 spots.

264
00:22:21,642 --> 00:22:26,082
There is a 24 bay market pavilion that's 30 by 112 feet.

265
00:22:26,502 --> 00:22:29,782
There's an unloading zone for sellers to drop stuff out and then park.

266
00:22:29,902 --> 00:22:31,442
There's restrooms with storage.

267
00:22:31,842 --> 00:22:35,102
And there's a 21,000 foot amphitheater with lawn,

268
00:22:35,302 --> 00:22:40,122
which is 111 feet away from the farmer's market to the amphitheater pavilion.

269
00:22:40,122 --> 00:22:42,422
So that's a good amount of space for people to hang out.

270
00:22:42,842 --> 00:22:46,362
Uh, then there's also some grass pavers around the back of it.

271
00:22:46,362 --> 00:22:50,382
That, uh, is so that you can, if you bring in your band over there, they have a place

272
00:22:50,382 --> 00:22:53,662
to park the car, uh, and, uh, unload all your gear.

273
00:22:53,662 --> 00:22:54,282
So that's cool.

274
00:22:54,582 --> 00:23:00,762
This will add about, uh, you know, there's also some five small spots for future historical

275
00:23:00,762 --> 00:23:01,962
building expansions.

276
00:23:02,282 --> 00:23:06,502
Uh, it looks like one's kind of like a gazebo thing and maybe some other thing that they

277
00:23:06,502 --> 00:23:08,002
don't have any real details on that.

278
00:23:08,682 --> 00:23:12,822
Um, but we'll see, this is more parking in total than we currently have at the

279
00:23:12,822 --> 00:23:18,702
farmer's market but it's also not going to be as much once everyone gets there because since the

280
00:23:18,702 --> 00:23:24,162
vehicles aren't part of the vendor setup area where people are basically pulling into the current

281
00:23:24,162 --> 00:23:29,562
farmer's market and then their farmer's market setup intent is right behind it uh where they're

282
00:23:29,562 --> 00:23:33,762
the vendors not taking up a parking spot now the vendors will be taking up parking spots so they're

283
00:23:33,762 --> 00:23:38,722
only going to be about 10 or 15 parking spots once all the vendors are there which is actually

284
00:23:38,722 --> 00:23:43,962
less parking than we have now. But if you use the other parking lot, we'll go from there.

285
00:23:44,482 --> 00:23:48,422
But one thing we just don't understand how this is going to impact our little local businesses

286
00:23:48,422 --> 00:23:53,442
that go there. Right now, that space is donated and supported by Mesa Chiropractic. Thank you so

287
00:23:53,442 --> 00:23:59,782
much for that, which was provided at vendors at no charge, which helps immensely. At many other

288
00:23:59,782 --> 00:24:08,342
city-run farmers markets, there's usually a $75 to $200 fee to be there for the season. And sometimes

289
00:24:08,342 --> 00:24:15,162
at $10 to $50 for there. So this is going to be a difficult time to figure out because that means

290
00:24:15,162 --> 00:24:20,182
that amount of money is coming out of their profit before they've sold one product. I know there's

291
00:24:20,182 --> 00:24:25,822
insurance and all kinds of other things, but it's working right now. So we'll have to see how that

292
00:24:25,822 --> 00:24:32,922
goes. And someone who doesn't show up, that means there's a spot open that someone could set up on,

293
00:24:33,022 --> 00:24:36,182
but since they're not on the vendor list and they haven't paid the fee, they can't be there.

294
00:24:36,182 --> 00:24:40,502
the current system has worked for years even when it was at the recreation center

295
00:24:40,502 --> 00:24:45,662
and now it's at mess at chiropractic which is great with vendors naturally coming and going

296
00:24:45,662 --> 00:24:49,102
throughout the year some people only sell holiday things some people sell year-round

297
00:24:49,102 --> 00:24:54,822
some people only sell fair weather everybody to each their own so it's worked out pretty well and

298
00:24:54,822 --> 00:25:01,942
it's not perfect but i'm not sure how much this is going to help people uh the dixon farmers market

299
00:25:01,942 --> 00:25:08,642
and Kingston Springs and Bellevue all have fees and forms and things that have to be done. Some

300
00:25:08,642 --> 00:25:12,962
of them even have to have a million dollar liability insurance to do that, which can cost

301
00:25:12,962 --> 00:25:19,722
you hundreds of dollars per year to have business licenses and all that. So it makes it much more

302
00:25:19,722 --> 00:25:24,622
official when the city runs it, which means it's more expensive for every vendor to sell there.

303
00:25:24,622 --> 00:25:30,262
So we'll have to see how that goes. So our BOC town hall is our chance to speak on this

304
00:25:30,262 --> 00:25:36,142
on October 28th and October 16th. So you should be there tomorrow if you're part of the farmer's

305
00:25:36,142 --> 00:25:44,402
market and at 7 p.m. from there. For the kids, you know, there's still numerous activities

306
00:25:44,402 --> 00:25:50,882
and options to keep your kids busy in sports and other things. There's still a big Girl Scouts and

307
00:25:50,882 --> 00:25:55,682
Scouts BSA programs for Cub Scouts, elementary school kids and middle school and high school

308
00:25:55,682 --> 00:26:01,422
kids from the scouts bsa program there's many recreation and travel teams there's also lala's

309
00:26:01,422 --> 00:26:07,242
dance studio and elevate gymnastics and cheer there's an exo taekwondo and jujitsu school that

310
00:26:07,242 --> 00:26:12,822
teaches way more than just moves called vigilance martial arts we also have a great wrestling

311
00:26:12,822 --> 00:26:19,082
program the jackets youth wrestling program and it had its open gym night on october 10th last week

312
00:26:19,082 --> 00:26:23,702
and it looks like things were a success for both those businesses elevate gymnastics and cheer and

313
00:26:23,702 --> 00:26:29,082
them. So you've got a cool place to get your kids to do stuff. So school news, school schedule,

314
00:26:29,342 --> 00:26:35,562
probably the most important, no school on October 31st. That's a Friday for Halloween and we have it

315
00:26:35,562 --> 00:26:40,222
off. And this is the first time I think that's ever happened. Hawk and Tiger news. We still need

316
00:26:40,222 --> 00:26:44,942
your help to write weekly notes for that because we're not, don't have kids in that system anymore.

317
00:26:45,682 --> 00:26:50,502
Fairview elementary has their track and treat October 16th tomorrow. And Westwood elementary

318
00:26:50,502 --> 00:26:57,502
has their Tint or Treat on October 23rd, 6 to 7.30 for both of those. Falcon News, there was no

319
00:26:57,502 --> 00:27:01,362
newsletter this week because they had just came back from fall break, so I can only include what

320
00:27:01,362 --> 00:27:05,742
we had before. They're still working on their Classroom Supplies fundraiser, which is listed

321
00:27:05,742 --> 00:27:11,262
in the show notes. The Glow Dance is scheduled for this Friday, October 17th at 2025, and you can

322
00:27:11,262 --> 00:27:16,282
save some money by purchasing your tickets in advance. October 21st is the Winter Sports Day.

323
00:27:16,282 --> 00:27:19,402
February 11th is the spring sports picture day.

324
00:27:19,842 --> 00:27:28,342
Sixth grade baseball tryouts are on October 22nd next week at 4 to 530 at the Fairview Ballpark Field 1.

325
00:27:28,742 --> 00:27:32,102
You need to make sure you bring your bats, glove, cleats, pants, and a hat.

326
00:27:32,682 --> 00:27:36,182
Seventh and eighth grade tryouts will be in January.

327
00:27:37,422 --> 00:27:40,482
October 25th is the Halloween concert and fundraiser.

328
00:27:40,482 --> 00:27:46,862
treat your boo is still going on where you can send candy and a drink to a kid or faculty member

329
00:27:46,862 --> 00:27:54,922
so you can submit that and go from there there is a Nashville Predator Spirit Night on November 1st

330
00:27:54,922 --> 00:28:00,942
at 2 30 p.m and that's if you want to go see the Calgary Flames and them so cool opportunity there

331
00:28:00,942 --> 00:28:06,942
jacket news there is still no newsletter this week but the pumpkin patch is still rocking

332
00:28:06,942 --> 00:28:12,922
until October 31st, and it's at the Apex Bank from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. This will help fund the

333
00:28:12,922 --> 00:28:19,942
FHS Athletic Committee for upcoming activities. The cross-country team is wrapping up the MSCCA

334
00:28:19,942 --> 00:28:25,102
Championship October 18th this Saturday at Buckner Park in Dixon, so we'll see how that starts going

335
00:28:25,102 --> 00:28:30,542
there. The fall market is on November 15th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a great place to do your

336
00:28:30,542 --> 00:28:36,042
Christmas shopping, just like our weekly farmer's market, to support local businesses. The art club

337
00:28:36,042 --> 00:28:41,202
was going to start soon so keep uh so please be ready for that soctober is going on with the beta

338
00:28:41,202 --> 00:28:48,342

340
00:28:54,562 --> 00:29:01,442

341
00:29:02,122 --> 00:29:05,942
October 18th, Saturday, is the ACT for Fairview.

342
00:29:06,082 --> 00:29:06,942
Register for that.

343
00:29:07,142 --> 00:29:09,922
And October 21st is the ACT for seniors.

344
00:29:10,762 --> 00:29:12,382
There's a fundraiser link in there too.

345
00:29:13,262 --> 00:29:13,862
Faith moment.

346
00:29:13,862 --> 00:29:17,442
This is definitely a much longer one, but a good one.

347
00:29:17,922 --> 00:29:23,982
This is from Phil Robertson, who has had a fantastic journey, has made a significant

348
00:29:23,982 --> 00:29:27,982
impact to our Christian world in America and around the world too.

349
00:29:28,342 --> 00:29:31,882
You may have heard of him from the TV show Duck Dynasty,

350
00:29:32,142 --> 00:29:37,022
where he and his family have adventures and always have focused on faith and morals.

351
00:29:37,162 --> 00:29:39,242
It's been a great family TV show over the years.

352
00:29:40,282 --> 00:29:46,682
He passed away recently, so we bless him and his family and pray for him.

353
00:29:47,222 --> 00:29:59,604
This message emphasizes that he is imperfect we are imperfect and many people in the Bible had a very significant path of redemption and trial and tribulations

354
00:30:00,424 --> 00:30:07,604
This is an excellent example of everyday people becoming Christian figures and bringing and

355
00:30:07,604 --> 00:30:11,324
making a difference to the gospel because of that, with getting out there.

356
00:30:11,324 --> 00:30:25,184
So this is an unlikely person to make the, you know, from going from the hunting world of making duck calls to preaching at churches all over the U.S. and talking to people about faith and his family and actually saving lives from that.

357
00:30:25,284 --> 00:30:26,504
So really, really good stuff.

358
00:30:38,104 --> 00:30:40,084
I just did that for the ladies.

359
00:30:41,324 --> 00:30:46,064
Because I know they're sitting on the edge of their chair saying, oh, I hope he blows those duck calls.

360
00:30:51,864 --> 00:30:56,284
Welcome to the Focus on the Family broadcast, helping families thrive.

361
00:30:58,944 --> 00:31:02,704
That's the duck call that helped make Phil Robertson famous.

362
00:31:02,704 --> 00:31:07,704
And today we're going to hear how he became a believer in Jesus Christ.

363
00:31:08,244 --> 00:31:14,824
Back in high school, Phil was quite an athlete, earning all state rankings in football, baseball, and track.

364
00:31:15,184 --> 00:31:21,324
In college, he was a starting quarterback for Louisiana Tech and got a master's degree in education.

365
00:31:21,964 --> 00:31:28,044
After graduation, Phil spent several years as a highly acclaimed teacher in Louisiana schools.

366
00:31:28,044 --> 00:31:37,524
But by the time he was in his late 20s, Phil had succumbed to alcohol and drug addiction and had abandoned his wife Kay and young sons.

367
00:31:37,704 --> 00:31:40,664
and that's where we're going to pick his story up today.

368
00:31:41,124 --> 00:31:46,764
Here's Phil Robertson speaking at Gateway Church in South Lake, Texas, on Focus on the Family.

369
00:31:49,644 --> 00:31:51,864
I was born of a woman like you.

370
00:31:55,844 --> 00:31:58,184
That's how we all got here, first birth.

371
00:31:58,784 --> 00:32:03,384
That first birth gets us on the earth, right?

372
00:32:04,004 --> 00:32:05,564
That got you on the earth.

373
00:32:05,564 --> 00:32:10,904
That second birth gets you off the earth.

374
00:32:11,464 --> 00:32:12,784
Pretty cool.

375
00:32:15,604 --> 00:32:21,724
The mother of all stories, God does work in mysterious ways.

376
00:32:22,504 --> 00:32:28,104
Before I became a child of God, I owned a beer joint.

377
00:32:28,104 --> 00:32:32,184
my little sister

378
00:32:32,184 --> 00:32:36,184
told one of the brothers

379
00:32:36,184 --> 00:32:40,124
at a congregation there in West Monroe

380
00:32:40,124 --> 00:32:41,884
I'm up in Arkansas

381
00:32:41,884 --> 00:32:46,184
my little sister told that guy, one of the brothers

382
00:32:46,184 --> 00:32:49,644
if you could convert my brother

383
00:32:49,644 --> 00:32:51,624
if you could convert him

384
00:32:51,624 --> 00:32:55,484
he would bring many, many people to Jesus

385
00:32:55,484 --> 00:33:03,724
and she kept on after him and he says I don't know going to how far is it 75 miles I don't know

386
00:33:03,724 --> 00:33:08,184
about going way up in there you know you know going to a beer joint is that where we're going

387
00:33:08,184 --> 00:33:15,964
you have to go to the beer joint that's where he is finally she talks him into it the guy walks in

388
00:33:15,964 --> 00:33:23,644
she brought the preacher and the first thing I asked him was you some kind of preacher

389
00:33:23,644 --> 00:33:30,084
he said I am I said let me ask you something you ever been drunk

390
00:33:30,084 --> 00:33:40,784
he said I have I said so why are you up here telling me about getting drunk because you've

391
00:33:40,784 --> 00:33:51,604
been drunk just like I'm getting drunk right now right to make a long story short that first meeting

392
00:33:51,604 --> 00:33:58,824
he walks outside and tells my little sister when they get in the car, I don't think he's ready.

393
00:34:01,664 --> 00:34:12,104
A year later, I ran Miss Kay off and Al was there. I think Jace was too, a little baby.

394
00:34:12,104 --> 00:34:25,264
I ran them off. I was like getting high, getting drunk. I was a scumbag and a heathen.

395
00:34:26,584 --> 00:34:34,784
What's amazing is a year after the initial meeting with the preacher, my loving wife that I'd run off,

396
00:34:34,784 --> 00:34:36,264
I said, why don't you talk to him?

397
00:34:37,324 --> 00:34:39,744
Just sober up a little bit and talk to him.

398
00:34:41,104 --> 00:34:42,944
So she talked me into it.

399
00:34:44,624 --> 00:34:48,964
And he shared with me what I'm fixing to share with y'all.

400
00:34:51,144 --> 00:34:53,084
To make a long story short,

401
00:34:53,084 --> 00:35:00,904
I decided since I didn't even realize who Jesus was,

402
00:35:00,904 --> 00:35:10,604
too busy smoking dope and getting drunk. I'm thinking, how did I miss that?

403
00:35:10,604 --> 00:35:21,064
A couple of college degrees. No, they didn't say anything about God or Jesus when I was in college.

404
00:35:21,264 --> 00:35:29,604
Did you at your college? Never brought them up. Father, Son, or Holy Spirit. The only time I heard

405
00:35:29,604 --> 00:35:34,084
the word God mentioned when I was in college was they would use his name in vain.

406
00:35:36,304 --> 00:35:43,484
So I decided having been a heathen for 28 years and I put on my brakes,

407
00:35:45,144 --> 00:35:53,244
the preacher didn't have to tell me to repent. I knew what repentance meant. He didn't have to say,

408
00:35:53,304 --> 00:35:57,744
Phil, look, you can't go whoring around, you know, once you become a Christian. Let me explain to you

409
00:35:57,744 --> 00:35:58,984
what repentance means, Phil.

410
00:35:59,224 --> 00:36:00,284
Old Phil knew that.

411
00:36:00,904 --> 00:36:01,624
And you know what?

412
00:36:02,944 --> 00:36:05,684
All of you know that, don't you?

413
00:36:06,764 --> 00:36:08,344
You know what doing good is.

414
00:36:08,764 --> 00:36:10,124
You know what love is.

415
00:36:10,124 --> 00:36:16,944
It's joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness,

416
00:36:17,684 --> 00:36:19,644
faithfulness, self-control.

417
00:36:20,284 --> 00:36:22,064
We all know what that is.

418
00:36:22,064 --> 00:36:33,244
so I didn't need a big long explanation I knew it was time and I was motivated by the gospel of

419
00:36:33,244 --> 00:36:42,524
Jesus and I said well I've served the evil one all this time now I'm fixing to serve God so I go from

420
00:36:42,524 --> 00:36:50,284
this way to about face and I'm going that way now and I'm was committed to God and made a pact with

421
00:36:50,284 --> 00:36:59,324
him. I said, I'll run wide open for you, God, as fast as I ran wide open for the devil for 28 years.

422
00:36:59,324 --> 00:37:05,024
So now I've been at this for 42. Heathen for 28,

423
00:37:07,604 --> 00:37:18,164
a son of God for the last 42. Trust me when I tell you this last 42 has been way better than the first

424
00:37:18,164 --> 00:37:34,844
28. The rarest of commodities has come my way. You say, what is it, Phil? What's the rarest of

425
00:37:34,844 --> 00:37:47,584
commodities? What is it that came your way? Peace of mind. Finally got it. You're never going to have

426
00:37:47,584 --> 00:37:58,324
peace of mind without Jesus Christ ever. It ain't going to happen. Fits of rage, sexual immorality,

427
00:37:59,024 --> 00:38:07,664
hatred, discord, factions, envy, jealousy. You know, the list of sins. I gave you the list,

428
00:38:07,664 --> 00:38:14,964
the fruit of the spirit about five minutes ago. Now you're hearing the list of sins.

429
00:38:14,964 --> 00:38:19,904
You want to keep that up thinking, boy, life will turn one of these days.

430
00:38:19,984 --> 00:38:21,864
I don't need no God, no Bible.

431
00:38:22,584 --> 00:38:23,364
Tell me about it.

432
00:38:23,964 --> 00:38:30,344
Now all I work with is people who are getting high, getting drunk.

433
00:38:30,864 --> 00:38:31,904
I'm dealing with them.

434
00:38:32,344 --> 00:38:34,684
They say, well, if you just understand what I'm going through.

435
00:38:34,844 --> 00:38:39,384
I say, trust me, honey, when I tell you, I know exactly what you're going through.

436
00:38:39,984 --> 00:38:40,904
I've been there.

437
00:38:40,904 --> 00:38:44,024
I didn't realize it was such a trap.

438
00:38:44,964 --> 00:38:46,564
Until I got out of it.

439
00:38:47,304 --> 00:38:50,004
I get out of the trap that Satan had me in.

440
00:38:50,004 --> 00:38:56,964
And I look back and I said, what was I thinking?

441
00:38:58,264 --> 00:39:01,344
The truth is, I wasn't thinking.

442
00:39:04,224 --> 00:39:06,504
So I've been delivered from Satan.

443
00:39:06,504 --> 00:39:15,284
So now I went from getting high, getting drunk, to being a son of God.

444
00:39:15,524 --> 00:39:18,624
And now, shock of shocks, I'm rich and famous.

445
00:39:20,664 --> 00:39:22,824
And you say there's no God?

446
00:39:25,264 --> 00:39:33,684
The problem with fame, one, it's a big headache.

447
00:39:33,684 --> 00:39:41,684
Two is fame can't remove my sin or yours.

448
00:39:42,444 --> 00:39:43,544
It can't do it.

449
00:39:44,464 --> 00:39:46,984
And on top of that, you say, well, Phil, you said you were rich.

450
00:39:47,284 --> 00:39:51,804
It's not going to help me when it comes to being raised from the dead.

451
00:39:52,184 --> 00:39:55,664
All the money in the world is never going to be able to raise me from the dead.

452
00:39:55,844 --> 00:39:56,084
Right?

453
00:39:56,424 --> 00:39:58,444
Better keep first things first.

454
00:39:58,444 --> 00:40:03,564
we have humanism

455
00:40:03,564 --> 00:40:05,624
and atheism and agnosticism

456
00:40:05,624 --> 00:40:06,184
and you know

457
00:40:06,184 --> 00:40:10,284
post-modernism and materialism

458
00:40:10,284 --> 00:40:13,684
ism, ism, ism, ism, ism, ism, ism

459
00:40:13,684 --> 00:40:14,984
that's all I heard in college

460
00:40:14,984 --> 00:40:17,624
this ism, that ism, this ism, that ism

461
00:40:17,624 --> 00:40:19,404
you know what they're all about?

462
00:40:21,144 --> 00:40:23,864
they're all trying to get around this story right here

463
00:40:23,864 --> 00:40:27,044
and none of them have succeeded

464
00:40:27,044 --> 00:40:34,004
all of you they're going to have your funeral and mine

465
00:40:34,004 --> 00:40:41,564
you can go yeah they're going to have my funeral one of these days and they're going to have fields

466
00:40:41,564 --> 00:40:46,964
too you can go like that or you can say I like the guy told me one time you're not going to put

467
00:40:46,964 --> 00:40:53,284
that on me you're not going to tell me I'm going to die I said oh you're going to die he said no

468
00:40:53,284 --> 00:40:58,224
sir, buddy. He gets up. He said, no way. I wanted to tell him the good news about the resurrection

469
00:40:58,224 --> 00:41:02,164
of Jesus, but he was saying, I'm not going to die. I said, oh, you're going to die. So we're

470
00:41:02,164 --> 00:41:10,024
arguing about it. I said, well, everybody else has. And so are you, dude. Live with it. Face it.

471
00:41:10,844 --> 00:41:15,404
I argued with him for 30 minutes, trying to convince him he was going to die.

472
00:41:15,964 --> 00:41:20,064
He left my house saying, ain't nobody telling me that kind of junk.

473
00:41:20,064 --> 00:41:25,284
six weeks goes by and the guy that brought him

474
00:41:25,284 --> 00:41:35,124
he said you know the dude was arguing with you about dying Phil I said I remember him he said

475
00:41:35,124 --> 00:41:46,464
he just did I said what happened to him he said he was knifed to death in a bar right up the road

476
00:41:46,464 --> 00:41:56,724
I just wonder when he hit the ground hit the floor I wonder if he thought about our conversation

477
00:41:56,724 --> 00:42:10,144
God had spoken to him through me six weeks earlier no takers he said nope I will not die I said he's

478
00:42:10,144 --> 00:42:15,144
the only human I've ever run up on I've run up on a lot of them said they didn't sin of course they

479
00:42:15,144 --> 00:42:20,544
were lying, which is a sin. But he was the only one I've ever

480
00:42:20,544 --> 00:42:22,924
run upon who said, I'm not going to die. I said, oh, you're

481
00:42:22,924 --> 00:42:30,964
going to die. Face it. So are all of you, Texas. If in the

482
00:42:30,964 --> 00:42:36,924
beginning, God did not create the heavens and the earth, if

483
00:42:36,924 --> 00:42:43,524
that's not what happened, you're not getting out of here. So

484
00:42:43,524 --> 00:42:54,084
what's the scoop? You have two problems you cannot fix. You can't fix them. One is you came out of

485
00:42:54,084 --> 00:42:58,644
your mother. I mentioned that earlier. You know what? You weren't a sinner because you didn't know

486
00:42:58,644 --> 00:43:04,864
what the law said. You didn't know what lying was. You're about two hours old. You're in a little

487
00:43:04,864 --> 00:43:09,644
crib or you're at your mother's breast. You say, you don't know what stealing is. But when you hit

488
00:43:09,644 --> 00:43:19,084
them teenage years along in there somewhere, something happened. The commandments started

489
00:43:19,084 --> 00:43:26,744
coming and you did understand what you had from Adam, what you inherited from him was the ability

490
00:43:26,744 --> 00:43:36,564
to know the difference between the, you had the knowledge of good and evil. Remember what God told

491
00:43:36,564 --> 00:43:44,004
Adam, don't eat over there. Because if you do, you eat of that tree, you'll know not only what good

492
00:43:44,004 --> 00:43:49,344
is, but what evil is. You don't want to go there because if you do, you're going to die.

493
00:43:51,704 --> 00:43:59,404
Well, every last one of us found out what evil was at some point.

494
00:44:01,644 --> 00:44:06,484
So you violate one of God's commands. You say, how many does it take? Just one.

495
00:44:06,564 --> 00:44:12,844
and you've been dead in your sins ever since.

496
00:44:16,684 --> 00:44:20,064
You used to be dead in your sins and transgressions

497
00:44:20,064 --> 00:44:22,824
in which you used to live for the saved here.

498
00:44:23,424 --> 00:44:25,544
When you follow the ways of the world

499
00:44:25,544 --> 00:44:28,984
and you follow the ruler of the kingdom of the air,

500
00:44:29,164 --> 00:44:32,144
the spirit who works in those who are disobedient,

501
00:44:32,244 --> 00:44:33,564
you're like, oh my goodness.

502
00:44:33,564 --> 00:44:42,044
so when physical death comes along and you're already spiritually dead in your sins

503
00:44:42,044 --> 00:44:54,246
you cut off forever eternally god not like our government can pay him off Can rope him get around him You say God is just

504
00:44:54,246 --> 00:44:57,606
So for the saved here, I'm like,

505
00:44:58,626 --> 00:45:01,446
be thankful and you are blessed

506
00:45:01,446 --> 00:45:04,766
because your sins have been forgiven.

507
00:45:05,086 --> 00:45:06,906
Your sins are covered.

508
00:45:08,446 --> 00:45:12,546
No sin will never, ever be counted against you.

509
00:45:12,886 --> 00:45:18,466
it'll give you peace of mind, knowing on top of that you can be raised from the dead.

510
00:45:19,786 --> 00:45:21,046
How did it happen?

511
00:45:23,046 --> 00:45:27,126
Something rather large must have happened in year one,

512
00:45:27,426 --> 00:45:32,526
because we're all saying it's 2016 years since it happened.

513
00:45:33,826 --> 00:45:37,786
What could have happened that your calendar is based on it?

514
00:45:37,786 --> 00:45:44,186
Well, you say, well, what are they called all the years before Jesus showed up?

515
00:45:44,646 --> 00:45:53,926
That's one, two, three, four, five, six, six years since Jesus showed up, seven, eight, you get to 2016.

516
00:45:54,786 --> 00:46:00,286
You say, you call all the years before he got here, all the years before he got here.

517
00:46:02,786 --> 00:46:03,346
Right?

518
00:46:03,346 --> 00:46:06,766
You know why you're counting time, babe?

519
00:46:07,786 --> 00:46:14,606
the creator of the cosmos has become a human being,

520
00:46:15,326 --> 00:46:18,646
coming forth out of a woman's womb,

521
00:46:18,966 --> 00:46:22,386
just like all of you, same kind of birth.

522
00:46:23,526 --> 00:46:28,506
The difference between this one and all of you,

523
00:46:28,506 --> 00:46:32,406
he got to the earliest teenage years

524
00:46:32,406 --> 00:46:35,006
and he grew in wisdom and stature

525
00:46:35,006 --> 00:46:41,146
and he never made one mistake.

526
00:46:43,146 --> 00:46:46,766
He never violated the law.

527
00:46:48,726 --> 00:46:54,886
100% God, 100% human, and he never made a mistake.

528
00:46:55,926 --> 00:46:58,106
That's why this Bible says,

529
00:46:59,186 --> 00:47:02,186
everyone who sins breaks the law.

530
00:47:03,886 --> 00:47:04,746
That's you.

531
00:47:05,006 --> 00:47:08,386
but not him.

532
00:47:09,106 --> 00:47:12,726
In fact, sin is lawlessness,

533
00:47:12,726 --> 00:47:16,526
but you know that he appeared,

534
00:47:17,406 --> 00:47:18,906
God becoming flesh.

535
00:47:20,486 --> 00:47:25,246
If you could speak a cosmos into existence at a word,

536
00:47:25,366 --> 00:47:28,906
by faith we understand the universe was formed

537
00:47:28,906 --> 00:47:33,006
at God's command, something like, I'm a redneck,

538
00:47:33,006 --> 00:47:35,386
Something like, do it.

539
00:47:36,786 --> 00:47:38,986
The cosmos there.

540
00:47:39,406 --> 00:47:44,926
You're like, and that God becomes one of us

541
00:47:44,926 --> 00:47:50,626
and walks on the cosmos, one little bitty piece, earth.

542
00:47:51,506 --> 00:47:52,826
He's walking on it.

543
00:47:56,746 --> 00:47:58,866
You talk about a story.

544
00:47:59,046 --> 00:48:00,166
You know what you call that?

545
00:48:00,166 --> 00:48:05,386
the mother of all arrivals,

546
00:48:05,826 --> 00:48:10,066
the creator of the cosmos becomes a human being.

547
00:48:10,986 --> 00:48:12,986
I've never heard of that.

548
00:48:14,906 --> 00:48:16,046
You know why?

549
00:48:16,946 --> 00:48:19,446
There's no one like Jesus Christ.

550
00:48:19,846 --> 00:48:21,026
No one.

551
00:48:22,026 --> 00:48:24,926
God becoming flesh, the creator of the cosmos,

552
00:48:25,246 --> 00:48:26,566
through him all things were created.

553
00:48:26,566 --> 00:48:29,786
He appeared to take away our sin.

554
00:48:30,166 --> 00:48:36,586
and in him is no sin.

555
00:48:37,786 --> 00:48:41,126
Jesus is rehab, right?

556
00:48:41,666 --> 00:48:43,066
You say, I get in Jesus.

557
00:48:43,686 --> 00:48:46,046
Rehabilitation has come my way.

558
00:48:46,606 --> 00:48:48,206
No doubt about it.

559
00:48:49,286 --> 00:48:51,066
Redemption has come your way.

560
00:48:51,846 --> 00:48:53,386
Holiness has come your way.

561
00:48:53,946 --> 00:48:55,686
You have to stay in Jesus.

562
00:48:56,206 --> 00:48:57,566
You have to walk as he did.

563
00:48:57,766 --> 00:48:59,206
While you're on the earth, you say,

564
00:48:59,206 --> 00:49:03,306
and no sin can touch me.

565
00:49:04,326 --> 00:49:05,846
No sin can ever touch you.

566
00:49:07,366 --> 00:49:09,966
Under law, you have to be perfect.

567
00:49:11,426 --> 00:49:16,326
Under grace, you just trust God and try.

568
00:49:17,286 --> 00:49:21,146
And when you stumble, there's provision for your sin.

569
00:49:21,886 --> 00:49:22,966
The blood of Jesus.

570
00:49:23,606 --> 00:49:25,226
It'll give you peace of mind.

571
00:49:26,486 --> 00:49:29,026
It'll get you off planet earth alive.

572
00:49:29,206 --> 00:49:33,306
because you're going, don't be like that guy that said,

573
00:49:33,386 --> 00:49:34,586
well, I'm not going to die.

574
00:49:34,946 --> 00:49:36,906
Okay, you admitting you're going to die?

575
00:49:37,186 --> 00:49:37,966
Are you going to die?

576
00:49:38,786 --> 00:49:39,566
Yeah, everybody's saying, yeah.

577
00:49:39,726 --> 00:49:40,746
Have you ever sinned?

578
00:49:41,206 --> 00:49:43,346
You can go like, well, I've sinned a few times.

579
00:49:45,626 --> 00:49:47,386
Took a cross for your sins.

580
00:49:50,546 --> 00:49:53,666
For God in flesh to love Phil Robertson,

581
00:49:53,666 --> 00:49:58,946
being the scumbag that I was, a scumbag.

582
00:49:58,946 --> 00:50:03,766
I told you, filthy language coming out of my mouth.

583
00:50:04,526 --> 00:50:06,006
Oh, it was pathetic.

584
00:50:07,426 --> 00:50:09,526
I didn't know any better.

585
00:50:10,546 --> 00:50:12,366
Dead in my sins.

586
00:50:15,686 --> 00:50:20,206
The guy who wrote most of the New Testament, murderer.

587
00:50:20,206 --> 00:50:25,306
we converted a guy

588
00:50:25,306 --> 00:50:29,646
because he was running dope across I-10

589
00:50:29,646 --> 00:50:32,246
African American guy

590
00:50:32,246 --> 00:50:35,866
he was a brother

591
00:50:35,866 --> 00:50:39,046
he went to college in South Louisiana

592
00:50:39,046 --> 00:50:43,886
hauled a load of dope across the great state of Texas

593
00:50:43,886 --> 00:50:46,326
the laws caught him

594
00:50:46,326 --> 00:50:50,786
his mama, one of our sisters

595
00:50:50,786 --> 00:50:56,826
asked me to go down there and plead for mercy

596
00:50:56,826 --> 00:50:58,826
with the judge, Huntsville, Texas

597
00:50:58,826 --> 00:51:00,066
I said, I'll do it

598
00:51:00,066 --> 00:51:02,546
so I drove down there on the day

599
00:51:02,546 --> 00:51:04,166
the old judge sentenced him

600
00:51:04,166 --> 00:51:07,926
and I got up and I made a plea for my brother

601
00:51:07,926 --> 00:51:10,326
who was fixing to be sent to prison

602
00:51:10,326 --> 00:51:12,906
please cut him some slack

603
00:51:12,906 --> 00:51:14,566
Mr. Robertson, you have any problem

604
00:51:14,566 --> 00:51:19,306
dealing with a drug dealer, the state of Texas dispensing justice against a drug dealer.

605
00:51:19,646 --> 00:51:21,026
I said, I have no problem with that.

606
00:51:21,466 --> 00:51:23,106
I know what justice is.

607
00:51:23,186 --> 00:51:25,006
I'm asking for mercy, Judge.

608
00:51:25,846 --> 00:51:28,346
He gave my brother none.

609
00:51:30,306 --> 00:51:40,326
So 13 years later, after they sentenced him, I was there when they sent him up,

610
00:51:40,326 --> 00:51:45,086
and Willie was there when he walked outside the prison gates.

611
00:51:46,166 --> 00:51:50,086
You say, y'all stuck with that brother every step of the way.

612
00:51:50,986 --> 00:51:52,646
He walked out of prison.

613
00:51:54,686 --> 00:51:57,066
Willie said, was it worth it?

614
00:51:58,386 --> 00:52:00,606
He said, no, it was not worth it.

615
00:52:00,866 --> 00:52:01,866
Not at all.

616
00:52:03,226 --> 00:52:07,206
So 12 and a half, 13 years he spent in prison.

617
00:52:07,206 --> 00:52:15,566
I said, Paul, I said, you come to my house.

618
00:52:17,286 --> 00:52:18,866
You stay there.

619
00:52:20,706 --> 00:52:22,126
No charge.

620
00:52:23,146 --> 00:52:27,806
You live with me, Miss Kay, until you get on your feet.

621
00:52:27,806 --> 00:52:37,066
He married a girl who was half black and half Latino.

622
00:52:37,206 --> 00:52:47,766
we married him in my yard and the local rednecks were driving by launching their boat down the way

623
00:52:47,766 --> 00:52:55,386
and they were looking over there and they saw mexicans blacks and rednecks eating eating cake

624
00:52:55,386 --> 00:52:57,346
and singing songs to God.

625
00:53:02,206 --> 00:53:06,886
And the rednecks, the rednecks of Rosalyn,

626
00:53:06,966 --> 00:53:08,866
when I pulled by, I launched my boat,

627
00:53:08,946 --> 00:53:11,426
and I looked over and I saw all of that going on.

628
00:53:11,886 --> 00:53:14,566
He said, I knew right then there gotta be a God.

629
00:53:16,086 --> 00:53:17,806
They ain't shooting, they ain't cutting,

630
00:53:17,806 --> 00:53:19,146
they're all loving one another

631
00:53:19,146 --> 00:53:21,486
and singing songs to God, thinking God.

632
00:53:22,286 --> 00:53:25,346
Old Paul was there after being in prison all them years.

633
00:53:25,386 --> 00:53:29,266
You see what the family of God is like?

634
00:53:31,286 --> 00:53:33,546
We are known for our love for one another.

635
00:53:34,146 --> 00:53:37,986
God became flesh, died on a cross for the sins of the world.

636
00:53:38,166 --> 00:53:39,246
Jesus is his name.

637
00:53:39,706 --> 00:53:42,366
Three days later, he solved your grave problem.

638
00:53:42,586 --> 00:53:44,606
All of your problems have been solved.

639
00:53:45,346 --> 00:53:46,646
God did every bit of this.

640
00:53:46,866 --> 00:53:48,026
You can't earn it.

641
00:53:48,286 --> 00:53:49,506
You can't work for it.

642
00:53:49,586 --> 00:53:51,366
It's all been done for you.

643
00:53:51,646 --> 00:53:52,686
It's free.

644
00:53:55,386 --> 00:54:00,766
And the bottom line is you're not getting out of here without it.

645
00:54:00,986 --> 00:54:01,906
Don't kid yourself.

646
00:54:02,406 --> 00:54:04,886
You're arguing with your wife and cursing and carrying on.

647
00:54:04,966 --> 00:54:07,046
You're like, what am I doing?

648
00:54:08,126 --> 00:54:08,686
Repent.

649
00:54:09,466 --> 00:54:10,286
Turn to God.

650
00:54:10,506 --> 00:54:11,566
Believe the gospel.

651
00:54:12,026 --> 00:54:12,706
Obey it.

652
00:54:13,366 --> 00:54:15,186
They'll baptize you in a few days.

653
00:54:15,306 --> 00:54:18,646
The old you will disappear and the new you will come forth.

654
00:54:19,206 --> 00:54:20,506
God will seal the deal.

655
00:54:20,506 --> 00:54:25,226
Now that you purified yourself by obeying the truth, Peter said,

656
00:54:25,386 --> 00:54:32,066
love one another deeply from the heart for you've been born again. I told you the first birth gets

657
00:54:32,066 --> 00:54:38,726
you here. The second birth being born of God of water and the spirit will get you out of here.

658
00:54:39,646 --> 00:54:46,166
One thing's for sure. You're not getting out of here alive. You have no chance if you keep getting

659
00:54:46,166 --> 00:54:51,006
high, getting drunk and wallowing around and filth coming out of your mouth. You'll probably die an

660
00:54:51,006 --> 00:54:57,186
early life, early death, you say, I have no shot to get out of here alive. None. I'm saying,

661
00:54:57,726 --> 00:55:05,506
how could they have dreamed this story up? Jesus is at the right hand of the father,

662
00:55:05,506 --> 00:55:13,546
constantly cleansing us from any sin. He's given us imperishable seed implanted

663
00:55:13,546 --> 00:55:16,266
that marks you for the resurrection.

664
00:55:18,106 --> 00:55:21,146
I pray that you respond to that if you haven't.

665
00:55:21,786 --> 00:55:24,406
Father, we love you.

666
00:55:25,886 --> 00:55:31,126
We got one shot from my vantage to get out of here alive.

667
00:55:32,066 --> 00:55:36,066
It's putting our faith in the death of your son on a cross

668
00:55:36,066 --> 00:55:37,926
back there 2,000 years ago

669
00:55:37,926 --> 00:55:41,526
and three days later raising him from the dead,

670
00:55:41,526 --> 00:55:50,846
guaranteeing ours. Father, you have told us plainly as in Adam, all die. That is a fact,

671
00:55:51,946 --> 00:55:58,946
irregardless of that guy that challenged me on it. But in Christ, all will be made alive,

672
00:55:59,646 --> 00:56:06,526
each in his own turn, Christ the first fruits. And then when he comes, all of us,

673
00:56:06,526 --> 00:56:10,886
Father for our loved ones who have gone on before us the saved

674
00:56:10,886 --> 00:56:12,806
They're still alive

675
00:56:12,806 --> 00:56:16,006
They're just separated from their body right now

676
00:56:16,006 --> 00:56:21,306
Their bodies are in the cemetery but their spirits their souls are with you

677
00:56:21,306 --> 00:56:27,606
And Lord when you come back Jesus you're bringing them all back with you

678
00:56:27,606 --> 00:56:30,406
That's why you have told us Father

679
00:56:30,406 --> 00:56:33,646
1 Thessalonians 4 13

680
00:56:33,646 --> 00:56:40,026
you told us we shouldn't grieve like the rest of men who have no hope.

681
00:56:40,446 --> 00:56:42,546
We believe Jesus died and rose again.

682
00:56:43,146 --> 00:56:47,546
So we know, Father, he's going to solve our grave problem when he comes back.

683
00:56:48,546 --> 00:56:54,306
If he comes back before we die, he'll change us on the spot and we'll live forever.

684
00:56:55,066 --> 00:56:56,726
Thank you for that great hope.

685
00:56:57,186 --> 00:56:59,526
Help us grab a hold of it with both feet.

686
00:57:00,066 --> 00:57:02,846
Stand on it, not budge on it.

687
00:57:03,646 --> 00:57:05,966
and live happily ever after.

688
00:57:06,686 --> 00:57:07,386
Thank you, Father.

689
00:57:07,806 --> 00:57:09,186
In the name of Jesus, amen.

690
00:57:09,626 --> 00:57:11,306
Welcome back from that sermon clip.

691
00:57:12,006 --> 00:57:13,266
Hopefully you liked that.

692
00:57:13,366 --> 00:57:15,986
That was a great one from Mr. Phil there.

693
00:57:16,626 --> 00:57:17,806
And donations.

694
00:57:18,266 --> 00:57:21,326
So on the donation fronts, nothing new since last week from Fountain.

695
00:57:21,426 --> 00:57:23,826
We still have some other payment options we're trying to figure out.

696
00:57:24,266 --> 00:57:25,906
We do see a couple more downloads.

697
00:57:25,906 --> 00:57:28,006
People are coming to the website, going to the calendar.

698
00:57:28,146 --> 00:57:29,546
So I think it's hopefully helping.

699
00:57:30,046 --> 00:57:33,266
But if you're in the Fountain app, if you use that to listen to your podcast,

700
00:57:33,266 --> 00:57:38,106
then you can get the support button and donate and be able to enter, you know,

701
00:57:38,166 --> 00:57:40,746
whichever payment method you want to and be able to do that.

702
00:57:41,106 --> 00:57:43,466
So additionally, there's a monthly supporter option.

703
00:57:43,706 --> 00:57:45,786
So it's just $3 and 50 cents a month.

704
00:57:45,966 --> 00:57:47,766
If you haven't seen the website, please take a look.

705
00:57:47,966 --> 00:57:53,306
A lot has been added since last week and even the week before churches, businesses, everything.

706
00:57:53,306 --> 00:57:58,566
We're going to announce if you want us to, we'll announce your first name or business to get a shot out on here.

707
00:57:58,566 --> 00:58:10,806
If you become a monthly supporter or you support us for more than $19.59, which is the year we were incorporated, unless you want us to be anonymous, you just put that in the note when you send in the payment from any of those sources.

708
00:58:11,406 --> 00:58:15,086
I hope some businesses will help support this, and we're going to keep going.

709
00:58:15,406 --> 00:58:22,106
I know we need to keep getting more on social media so that people can find out about this podcast, and I hope it's easy.

710
00:58:22,106 --> 00:58:27,506
maybe you're on your drive to work right now and you can just listen to what's going on in fairview

711
00:58:27,506 --> 00:58:33,646

713
00:58:38,346 --> 00:58:43,566
