EP: 20 "The 2026 Ice Storm”

This is the Fairview, TN News from January 21-28, 2026.

Welcome to Episode 20 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.  This is a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire.  Local Radio stations and newspapers don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.  This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive.  This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, over 18 years ago.

Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know.  Use the contact form on the website, and we will work to get updates into the next episode.  You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for their value.  Some shows will be longer, others shorter, but I will do my best to keep things relevant.

Traffic Time

Icey Busy, where you can wait nearly no time to make a left in the morning and the afternoon.  Cumberland, and 100 because everything is still closed and many people still haven’t left their houses since Saturday, when the snow and ice started.  No Construction Updates.

Redlight Update – We currently still have three (Old Cox, Publix, & Walmart). Still, we will soon be getting one at the new City Center Entrance and at the Cumberland and 100 intersection when that expansion occurs. I’m not sure how it will help or hurt yet, but I hope the crossing guard can control it during the morning and evening school rush.

City Center – Looks like they have even laid out some mulch and hay to define some areas and help get grass growing, since it will be a while before the first house is built there.  They are still just working on this site’s drainage and utilities.  There have been many posts over the past couple of months about Lennar at Bowie Meadows and the City Center developments, and how they are destroying the beauty of Bowie Park by ruining the perimeter trail and causing erosion problems along the park's border.  There isn’t anything that can be done now other than uphold the development codes to ensure we are doing what we can to protect what we have.

We’re Growing

City News

It’s a mess outside.  This has been a crazy weekend for the city, but it’s also been a testament to the city and its people.  There have been a lot of posts on Fairview Then & Now asking questions about heating options, road conditions, getting rides, getting food, and help with so many things, and the number of people who have jumped in to help is why this city is so great.  We are not out of the woods yet with this weather, with some still without power, but it’s way better than it was when over 14k people were without power.  There were some issues with lines from the TVA that feed out substations on Pinewood Road and across from the Jingo Market.  With those two not having power, most of the city didn’t have power, and the other problems in the lines couldn’t be found because there isn’t a way to troubleshoot without power going down the road a little bit.  Thanks to City and County workers helping with cleanup and road maintenance, to TDOT, and to everyone at Middle TN Electric for all they have done and continue to do to get us back to normal.  I was in Burns in 1994 when that ice storm came through, and we didn’t have power for 2 weeks, and this time we were the lucky ones with only 14 hours, but some in Chester and the Fernvale area were in the days, and some are still waiting.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE CITY OF FAIRVIEW

City Manager Tom Daugherty has declared a State of Emergency for the City of Fairview due to the ongoing severe weather conditions.

This proclamation allows the City to pursue reimbursement for employee time, fuel, equipment, and supplies utilized by our essential workers and public safety personnel as they continue responding to this weather event.

The City of Fairview remains committed to protecting the safety and well-being of our residents. We encourage everyone to stay safe, stay warm, and check on neighbors—especially the elderly and those in need—as we work together through this emergency.

With Comments

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY3FQcfiqJc

To summarize, it would take an hour or more to go over just some of the high points.  In summation, they all did a good job of raising issues that have been mentioned in past meetings and complaints.  There was talk about buffer distances, differences among the new zoning types, traffic studies, STEP systems, Undisturbed Buffers, 2040 plans,  and updates made.   The company TDAC did a good job of keeping the meeting moving, and every board member participated with comments and questions, which was great.

The State of TN (Not In Order) https://tennesseelookout.com/category/politics/  https://www.tn.gov/news.html

1.        Tennessee has been busy since the last show, managing the problems caused by this Winter Storm, keeping things going, and doing what they can to help.  Bill Lee was out and about, thanking the linemen as they worked to restore power in cold, icy conditions.

2.        A Tennessee Republican senator is proposing a constitutional amendment to shift local election dates to match federal elections. Sen. Ferrell Haile of Gallatin is sponsoring Senate Joint Resolution 5151, which would hold local government elections on the same day as federal and state elections to save money and increase voter participation.

3.     A portion of Tennessee’s federal grant money from the Trump administration’s Rural Health Transformation Program may depend on state lawmakers’ ability to pass legislation eliminating the certificate of need law — something the Tennessee Hospital Association has resisted for years. The Joint Ways and Means Committee voted unanimously on Jan. 14 to accept nearly $207 million in federal grant dollars for the grant’s first year, but not without reservations.

4.     The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced that Tennessee Highway Patrol State Troopers and State Homeland Security Agents will lead coordinated efforts to conduct welfare checks on Tennesseans who have not been heard from since the devastating ice and snow storm started.  The Tennessee National Guard is also supporting the winter storm response.

The Bills

Well, if school is out, then they are out, and with over 20 things on the agenda just last week, and only one marked cancelled, I guess they were done before this storm came rolling in.

How’s the hill, weather report

Back to it, How’s the hill?  Dangerous and Icy but getting better (This is the first time we can actually report on the passability of the Hill, yaaaa).  The weather guessers were really wrong on this Blizzard and Winter Storm for our area, with predictions of 3-24” and with some or no ice.  I guess they got it in that huge range, so maybe they win again?  But for this week, the Weather Guessers are predicting highs from 22 to 40 and lows from 11 to 29, with some Rain or freezing rain next Wednesday on the 4th.

New Businesses

Nothing New was spotted.  Ace Hardware is getting a lot closer.  They have made a lot of progress outside.  The property across from Carr Orthodontics is for sale for 1.4 million https://www.crye-leike.com/p/0-Highway-100-Fairview-Blvd-Fairview-TN-37062/dmgid_181836051 for 2.8 acres, and it’s now “under contract”.  We will have to see what this becomes.  Other than that, I spotted nothing new this week, and I'm waiting to see what else is coming.  There are still a couple of properties for sale around the area.  Just two commercial properties still for sale with one on Drag Strip Rd and Loblolly Pine Blvd.

Farmers Market

Make sure to head to the Farmers Market every Saturday Morning, 8 AM to 12 PM (Not Earlier, as other posts have posted) at Meseck Chiropractor and Fairview Fresh Deli for their life-changing Apple Fritters, located down the road from Publix.  There are so many good places to get breads and treats, local beef and pork, local fruits, and vegetables, along with some hot sauce, fishing lures, and other gifts.

History Nugget

In 1539, Hernando De Soto landed at what is now Charlotte Harbor, Florida (Gulf Coast), with a military detachment of 640 volunteers, an average age of 24, selected to establish a Spanish colony near the Mississippi River.  After spending the winter in northern Florida and with news of gold in the direction of the rising sun, he headed northeast in the Spring of 1540, crossing Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas.  With no success in finding gold, he returned to the west, entering Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama, while trying to reach Mobile Bay to meet his ships.  However, in October of 1540, the chief of the Tuscaloosa tribe ambushed De Soto’s army one hundred miles from the port.  In spite of leaving victorious, De Soto withdrew to the north, past the Tennessee River, so his men would be isolated and unable to escape to the ships.  Some of the tribes they ran into and had conflicts with were the Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, and Catawba.

School News

School Schedule

No School this week since Monday because of this blizzard, and with the temperatures, maybe not until next week sometime.  With the snow coming on Saturday, it wrecked the weekend for most but really stole those two extra snow days from all our kids, and they are sad

February 12 - 15 Mid-Winter Break; Presidents’ Day

Hawks and Tigers News  No New News since last week.

Falcon News – The Newsletter is a little late, so we don’t have the latest one since school is out.  There will be a competitive robotics team, and more information will be available.  Some new Athletic Field layouts are coming; maybe this is related to the piles of dirt in front of the school.  The top Students were recognized with their House of Armour, Honor, and Valor.   Staff Member of the week was Ms. Oliphant.  More discussions about how the school will be working to become a “Reward School” and how that comes to Achievement (with Students scoring Level 3 and Level 4 on their exams to show mastery in things), Attendance (get to school), and Growth (where students make their growth measure).

Cupid Grams are available from the FMS PTO for $5 per student, with delivery on the 12th, which will include a cookie, a crush drink, and a note.  This is always an easy way to show your student you are paying attention to them and their schedule and giving them a little something to make their day “more better”   https://fairviewmiddlepto.givebacks.com/shop/items/b8c615434d

A bunch of this will have to be rescheduled below, so we will see what happens when we finally get back to school.

Jan 26th at 6 PM at the Cafeteria will be a Parents meeting for Softball, and Tryouts will be on Feb 2nd at 330-530 at the FHS Softball Field. January 27th - Track Parent Meeting at 6PM in Cafeteria.  February 12th - Spring Sports Pictures ( New Date) and March 5th - Makeup Pictures and Spring Portraits. Rising Freshmen Night at FHS:  February 18th, 2026 (All Rising 9th Grade Families) 6:00 pm.  8th Grader News Course Selection/4-year Plan: February 19th – March 5th, 2026 in the FMS Library.  Fairview High School counselors will be meeting with students and parents at the FMS library to register rising freshmen for their classes from February 19th to March 5th, 2026. Please sign up for a meeting with your counselor based on your student’s last name.  Parents of students with an IEP (Individualized Education Program) will complete the registration process through bridging meetings and do not need to use the link below. Your file holder will contact you with a meeting time.

Jacket News – They sent a newsletter, and it worked this week, woohooo.  Next week will be the Coming Home week, with dress-up days each day with Student-Teacher Swap, Dress your Age, White Lie Shirts, Disney Villains, and Friday Jacket Pride.  With the snow, I’m guessing the Fairview Lady Jackets Flag Football tryouts held on Sunday, January 25th, were rescheduled.  January 30: Coming Home.  February 13 - 16: Mid-winter break; there is no school.  March 6: End of 3rd Quarter.  March 9 - 13: Spring Break; there is no school.    April 3: Spring Holiday; there is no school.  May 21: Last Day for Students; 11:20 am dismissal.

Fairview Recreations Association needs some Umpires, and they have information meetings on January 31st at 10 AM and February 21st at 1 PM at the Fairview Ballpark.

Applications for the Innovation Center are available on ClassLink from December 2 to February 13th, 2026.   Senior Jackets and Rings can be ordered now https://out.smore.com/e/ympd28/2Dyh6q?__$u__ . Next year, the Innovation Center (located at 106 Claude Yates Drive) will be opening to students in five different programs that will meet the elective focus required for graduation. Programs include:

    Advanced Power & Machinery

    Aviation

    Cybersecurity & AI

    Hospitality, Tourism, & Culinary

    Fire Management Services

Applications for the Innovation Center are available on Classlink from December 2 to February 13th. Faith Moment

I have mentioned the Founders' Bible before, but one of the things I have enjoyed about it is the stories about our founding fathers, presidents, and other notable historical figures, and how their faith, the Bible, and the country are one and the same.

1) George Washington, the first president: “It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.”

2) John Adams, the second president: “So great is my veneration of the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it the more confident will be by hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society … I have made it a practice every year for several years to read through the Bible.”

3) Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president: “In regard to this great book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man’s welfare, here and hereafter, are to be found portrayed in it.”

4) Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president: “Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet-anchor of your liberties; write its precepts in your hearts and practice them in your lives. To the influence of this book we are indebted for all the progress made in true civilization, and to this we must look as our guide in the future. ‘Righteousness exalted a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people.'”

https://thefoundersbible.com/

Welcome back. I hope these are quotes you have never heard from just four of our presidents that we should know and understand.  I think it is even more important to ensure your children understand the connections between our country and the Bible.  We are in times of escalating tension, and the word of God can go a long way to help, but it’s also very relevant to our country's founding, and everyone should know that in the United States of America.

Donations

On the Donations front, nothing new from Fountain.  We will have other payment options soon, just waiting for the tax man stuff to finish. We covered Fountain and Stripe Setup in the last episode, so a Donate button lets you use your Credit Card and other Payment methods through Stripe.

A monthly Supporter option is available for just $3.50.  If you haven’t seen the website, please take a look. A lot has been added since last week, and I think you will find it helpful, including the calendar, Church and Business List, and more.  We will announce your first name or business name if you become a monthly supporter or make a donation of $19.59 or more, unless you include a note stating not to be anonymous (e.g., 'The year we were incorporated').  I hope some business people will support this to make it even better!  Be a producer, subscribe, and share with others about this Podcast to help get the news out to everyone in Fairview.  I need to catch up on social media things to get the word out, but I’m trying to get the website and payments sorted first.

Thank You

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:07,700
Howdy, and welcome to episode 20 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here

2
00:00:07,700 --> 00:00:10,480
in Fairview for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.

3
00:00:11,060 --> 00:00:15,360
This is a weekly show released every Wednesday featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire.

4
00:00:15,980 --> 00:00:19,500
Local radio stations and newspapers don't exist in small towns like ours,

5
00:00:19,620 --> 00:00:22,980
so we use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.

6
00:00:23,380 --> 00:00:28,160
This is a value for value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value

7
00:00:28,160 --> 00:00:33,220
receive. This concept was founded by the podfather himself, Adam Curry, and his co-host John C.

8
00:00:33,280 --> 00:00:38,660
Dvorak of the No Agenda show over 18 years ago. Currently, this is just a one-man operation,

9
00:00:39,060 --> 00:00:43,300
so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, job openings, please don't

10
00:00:43,300 --> 00:00:47,720
hesitate to let me know. Use the contact form on the website, and we'll work to get the updates out

11
00:00:47,720 --> 00:00:52,960
on the next episode. You are a producer of the show. You are not the product because your time

12
00:00:52,960 --> 00:00:58,000
and attention are not being sold to advertisers for the value. Some of these shows will be

13
00:00:58,000 --> 00:01:01,920
longer and some will be shorter but I always try to do my best to keep things relevant.

14
00:01:02,520 --> 00:01:09,120
Traffic time. Well, icy busy where you can literally wait no time to make a left or right

15
00:01:09,120 --> 00:01:14,160
in the morning or afternoon between Cumberland and 100 because everything is still closed

16
00:01:14,160 --> 00:01:20,300
and many people still have even left their homes since last this previous Saturday when the snow

17
00:01:20,300 --> 00:01:25,000
and ice storm started. There are no construction updates because no one's been doing anything

18
00:01:25,000 --> 00:01:30,640
other than scraping the road. Red light update. We're still at three red lights, Old Cox, Publix,

19
00:01:30,720 --> 00:01:36,960
and Walmart. And we'll see how some of those new red lights come in there. City center, just like

20
00:01:36,960 --> 00:01:43,080
we talked about last week, still they laid out a bunch of mulch and grass and retaining and hay

21
00:01:43,080 --> 00:01:47,300
and stuff like that to start framing some of the areas. But they're still working on the drainage

22
00:01:47,300 --> 00:01:52,920
and utilities of that. There's still a giant pile of dirt, if you haven't noticed. And until that's

23
00:01:52,920 --> 00:01:59,420
done that we're there. We're also, we talked about last week about how the perimeter trail and how

24
00:01:59,420 --> 00:02:04,140
that's kind of coming into there and some of these development codes are coming up and this is your

25
00:02:04,140 --> 00:02:08,480
chance to do those types of things. Definitely make sure you're going to those meetings and

26
00:02:08,480 --> 00:02:15,660
paying attention to that. We're growing. Well, city news. It's a mess outside. It's been a crazy

27
00:02:15,660 --> 00:02:19,920
weekend for the city, but it's also been a testament to the city and its people. There have

28
00:02:19,920 --> 00:02:25,240
been lots of posts on Fairview then and now asking about heating options, road conditioning,

29
00:02:25,460 --> 00:02:30,440
getting rides, getting food and help, and so many other things between pets and parents and friends.

30
00:02:31,000 --> 00:02:36,140
It's been great to see all the number of people who have jumped in to help, and that's why this

31
00:02:36,140 --> 00:02:41,660
city is so great. We're not out of the woods yet with this weather. There are still some without

32
00:02:41,660 --> 00:02:49,020
power, but it's way better than it was when over 14,000 people were without power in western

33
00:02:49,020 --> 00:02:55,800
Williamson County in the Fairview and surrounding areas. There were some issues with lines from the

34
00:02:55,800 --> 00:03:01,680
TVA that feed our two substations on Pinewood Road and one across from Jingo Market. With those two

35
00:03:01,680 --> 00:03:07,060
not having power, most of the city did not have power and many of the other problems in the lines

36
00:03:07,060 --> 00:03:12,200
couldn't be found because there isn't a way to troubleshoot without power going down the road,

37
00:03:12,200 --> 00:03:17,120
at least a little bit, until you find something's broke here. There's a transformer exploded there.

38
00:03:17,120 --> 00:03:23,220
thanks to the city county workers for helping clean up and all the road maintenance they've done

39
00:03:23,220 --> 00:03:29,040
along with t-dot and everyone in middle tennessee electric and you could go we'll go ahead and lump

40
00:03:29,040 --> 00:03:37,020
in nes there of working tirelessly uh since saturday to get power back to people and help

41
00:03:37,020 --> 00:03:44,580
people along the way um and i was in burns in 1994 when the ice storm came and we didn't have

42
00:03:44,580 --> 00:03:49,680
power for two weeks and you know we were one of the lucky ones it only was 14 hours for us

43
00:03:49,680 --> 00:03:56,680
but there was people in Chester and Fernvale and some of those surrounding areas that were days

44
00:03:56,680 --> 00:04:02,400
and some are still waiting without power I'll even post the latest power outage map for Middleton

45
00:04:02,400 --> 00:04:09,240
Electric so you can still see and other city news the city manager Tom Daughtry declared a state of

46
00:04:09,240 --> 00:04:14,360
emergency for the City of Fairview. With the ongoing severe conditions, this proclamation

47
00:04:14,360 --> 00:04:19,540
allows the city to pursue reimbursement for employee time, fuel equipment, and supplies

48
00:04:19,540 --> 00:04:24,640
utilized by our essential workers and public safety personnel as they continue responding

49
00:04:24,640 --> 00:04:30,320
to this weather event. The City of Fairview remains committed to helping the safety and

50
00:04:30,320 --> 00:04:34,300
well-being of the residents. We encourage everyone to stay safe, stay warm, checking on your neighbors,

51
00:04:34,720 --> 00:04:39,180
especially the elders and those in need, as we work together to get through this emergency.

52
00:04:39,240 --> 00:04:47,000
so this type of proclamation will help them pay back some of the overtime and things like that

53
00:04:47,000 --> 00:04:51,560
along with the things that they mentioned there so this should actually help the city out a little

54
00:04:51,560 --> 00:05:00,020
bit so the development code and planning commission they rescheduled the uh they have one still set

55
00:05:00,020 --> 00:05:07,780
for the 27th which is tomorrow uh i would or it was yesterday so they've rescheduled that so we're

56
00:05:07,780 --> 00:05:11,780
waiting to see when that is, but that'll be the next board of commissioner and planning commission

57
00:05:11,780 --> 00:05:17,880
meeting still on the calendar, uh, from the last one, which, uh, we've, we recapped a little bit

58
00:05:17,880 --> 00:05:25,940
in this show here houses, uh, right now there's 211 for sale from one 99 last week. So we're

59
00:05:25,940 --> 00:05:31,460
getting a little bit more. The highest, most expensive is 3.495 million for 70 acres and a

60
00:05:31,460 --> 00:05:37,340
three bed, four bath. And the lowest is now $245,000, no acres, two bed, one full,

61
00:05:37,680 --> 00:05:46,340
one partial. Um, and there, so we see them team meet town meeting updates. So last week there

62
00:05:46,340 --> 00:05:50,440
wasn't any of our normal things like planning commissioner, board of commissioners, town hall,

63
00:05:50,440 --> 00:05:56,160
landscape board, round town coffee, but there was the development code review meeting, uh,

64
00:05:56,160 --> 00:05:58,600
which I put a lot of comments on on the Facebook side.

65
00:05:58,700 --> 00:06:05,060
But overall, that couple hour meeting was going through the list of things

66
00:06:05,060 --> 00:06:10,880
that each commissioner had found and talking through it.

67
00:06:10,880 --> 00:06:15,180
So there was lots of good ones based on traffic study updates and all that.

68
00:06:15,500 --> 00:06:20,220
If I did a recap of that, I would actually have to almost recap everybody verbatim.

69
00:06:20,440 --> 00:06:24,440
But overall, it was great discussions that went back and forth.

70
00:06:24,440 --> 00:06:39,496
pretty much every commissioner contributed something The TDAC people were pretty helpful of keeping the meeting going and going through all those things which was great So I didn want to add an hour or more of recap because there

71
00:06:39,496 --> 00:06:46,796
was no way to summarize everything other than lots of stuff was talked about. And if you want to,

72
00:06:46,856 --> 00:06:52,916
we have it posted in the show. If you want to watch that and go through it, you can probably

73
00:06:52,916 --> 00:06:58,636
watch it, you know, at one and a half, two times speed, you might be okay and still be able to

74
00:06:58,636 --> 00:07:04,616
get it all. Next town meetings. Well, February 10th is our planning commission and board of

75
00:07:04,616 --> 00:07:10,836
commissioners on February 5th, January 29th is supposed to be the pilot commissioner's town hall,

76
00:07:10,956 --> 00:07:16,576
but the city is closed. So that's not going to happen. So we'll have to see. That means that

77
00:07:16,576 --> 00:07:22,816
the next town hall will just be in February. And that'll be that. The parks and landscape board

78
00:07:22,816 --> 00:07:29,816
is on February 2nd. Development code is still scheduled. It was the 27th, but nothing looks

79
00:07:29,816 --> 00:07:34,656
like that happened. February 11th is around town coffee and there's no beer board planned.

80
00:07:35,836 --> 00:07:41,216
State of Tennessee. Tennesseans have been very busy managing all the problems with this winter

81
00:07:41,216 --> 00:07:47,816
storm and keeping things going and doing everything they can help. It's been great to

82
00:07:47,816 --> 00:07:53,836
see it across the state. It's not just our little town. Bill Lee was out and thanking a lot of the

83
00:07:53,836 --> 00:07:59,436
linemen and doing as they help restore power in these icy and kind of treacherous conditions

84
00:07:59,436 --> 00:08:04,796
where even some of their vehicles were getting stuck and everything in there.

85
00:08:05,796 --> 00:08:10,656
A Tennessee Republican senator is proposing a constitutional amendment to shift local election

86
00:08:10,656 --> 00:08:17,796
dates to match federal elections. This is Senator Farrell Halley of Gallatin is sponsoring this joint

87
00:08:17,816 --> 00:08:24,316
Resolution 5151, which would hold local government elections on the same day as federal and state

88
00:08:24,316 --> 00:08:29,316
elections to save money. We've mentioned this a couple times on the show when we've talked about

89
00:08:29,316 --> 00:08:33,196
the elections coming up this year. They basically have stuff in the middle of the year and you have

90
00:08:33,196 --> 00:08:36,736
stuff at the end of the year. Basically move the stuff to the middle of the year to the end of the

91
00:08:36,736 --> 00:08:42,216
year so that it's all unified and they only have to open up the polls one time, make one ballot,

92
00:08:42,216 --> 00:08:48,396
promote one thing instead of promoting two things, which is why the voter turnout for all local

93
00:08:48,396 --> 00:08:54,936
elections and municipalities is so much lower than federal elections because most people don't know.

94
00:08:55,596 --> 00:08:59,656
In some cases, they don't care, but that's also part of it. This could definitely help,

95
00:08:59,656 --> 00:09:04,656
and it will save money and a lot of time. A portion of Tennessee's federal grant money from

96
00:09:04,656 --> 00:09:10,376
the Trump Administration on the Rural Health Transformation Program may depend on their

97
00:09:10,376 --> 00:09:16,536
ability to pass that. Some Tennessee hospital eliminating the certificate of need law,

98
00:09:17,016 --> 00:09:22,516
something like this, the Tennessee Hospital Association has persisted for years. The Joint

99
00:09:22,516 --> 00:09:30,256
Ways and Means Committee voted on it the previous week on January 14th to accept nearly $207 million

100
00:09:30,256 --> 00:09:36,296
in federal grant monies, but without reservations. So this is basically where you had to have a

101
00:09:36,296 --> 00:09:42,676
need that you need 26 ambulances uh 33 here whatever the number is based on the population

102
00:09:42,676 --> 00:09:48,796
and census data and a lot of other things so that's there and then you know this is not last

103
00:09:48,796 --> 00:09:53,276
but least here but the tennessee department of safety homeland security and the tennessee highway

104
00:09:53,276 --> 00:09:59,516
patrol and the tennessee national guard uh and homeland security agents have led a coordinated

105
00:09:59,516 --> 00:10:04,896
effort to conduct welfare welfare checks on the tennesseans that have not been heard from since

106
00:10:04,896 --> 00:10:12,136
this designated ice and snowstorm started. So thank you for them all working together and helping

107
00:10:12,136 --> 00:10:19,056
people out. The bills, well, school is out and they are out with over 20 things that were on

108
00:10:19,056 --> 00:10:26,536
the agenda last week. And only one thing is marked canceled on January 30th. I guess they got all

109
00:10:26,536 --> 00:10:31,616
their work done right before the storm came rolling in. So good for them. There is still

110
00:10:31,616 --> 00:10:38,556
the state of the state which is the last one for bill lee on february 2nd at 6 p.m the agenda is

111
00:10:38,556 --> 00:10:43,136
the link for streaming isn't posted yet so we'll have to see when that comes in

112
00:10:43,136 --> 00:10:50,376
how's the hill well dangerous and icy but getting better this is the first time we can actually

113
00:10:50,376 --> 00:10:56,776
report on the passability of the hill yay the weather guessers were really wrong on this blizzard

114
00:10:56,776 --> 00:11:04,736
winter storm for sure because we had predictions of 3 to 24 inches as we were coming up some ice or

115
00:11:04,736 --> 00:11:12,396
no ice and I guess you know with that huge range maybe they still won because they got it in the

116
00:11:12,396 --> 00:11:20,656
range but for this week the weather guessers are predicting highs from 22 to 40 and lows from 11

117
00:11:20,656 --> 00:11:26,976
to 29 with some rain or freezing rain next Wednesday on the 4th. This could be our best

118
00:11:26,976 --> 00:11:34,256
chance for our first, uh, you know, time to, you know, keep this going, the snow days and everything

119
00:11:34,256 --> 00:11:40,456
like that. New businesses, nothing new was spotted. Ace Hardware is getting a lot closer.

120
00:11:40,616 --> 00:11:45,176
They've made a lot of progress outside. That property across from Core Orthotics is still

121
00:11:45,176 --> 00:11:49,656
marked under contract. So we'll have to see what that is. Um, other than that, there hasn't been

122
00:11:49,656 --> 00:11:54,796
anything spotted because the city is kind of strut down other than there are only two other

123
00:11:54,796 --> 00:12:01,636
commercial properties for sale one on drag strip road and one on loblolly pine boulevard so one

124
00:12:01,636 --> 00:12:06,876
thing is sold off that list farmer's market make sure you make it the farmer's market every saturday

125
00:12:06,876 --> 00:12:13,076
morning 8 a.m to 12 p.m mess at chiropractic and fairview fresh deli donuts located across the road

126
00:12:13,076 --> 00:12:17,056
from publics there are many good places to get great breads treats local beef and pork

127
00:12:17,056 --> 00:12:22,216
fruits and vegetables along with some hot saucing fishing lures and other gifts all every time of

128
00:12:22,216 --> 00:12:26,596
the year it was closed this saturday because of the snow and it'll probably still be closed

129
00:12:26,596 --> 00:12:33,296
this coming saturday so maybe next week the first weekend weekend in fairview uh in february we'll

130
00:12:33,296 --> 00:12:39,336
have it local business highlight brick and mortar uh we got nash eye care so uh this is our local

131
00:12:39,336 --> 00:12:44,336
eye doctor so if you're squinting a bit and need some new frames or contact lenses definitely check

132
00:12:44,336 --> 00:12:50,896
them out. Dr. Nash was born and raised right here in Fairview and has a long history of commitment

133
00:12:50,896 --> 00:12:55,896
and involvement within this great community. So you'll see them sponsoring things throughout there,

134
00:12:56,056 --> 00:13:08,692
which is great So we got their link in there So if you need your eyeballs looked at definitely go do it Job openings Well we at 40 from 31 So it basically kind of the same as last week

135
00:13:08,692 --> 00:13:18,532
So the only difference is that there was a job added at Pilot, which is cashier and

136
00:13:18,532 --> 00:13:20,092
deli production team member.

137
00:13:20,632 --> 00:13:25,892
But otherwise, we have basically there's a local job at almost every one of our local

138
00:13:25,892 --> 00:13:26,892
businesses here.

139
00:13:27,232 --> 00:13:29,472
Um, big and small.

140
00:13:29,852 --> 00:13:33,232
And, uh, so definitely check it out, uh, on the list there.

141
00:13:33,292 --> 00:13:37,712
So you can find those 40 jobs from that history nugget.

142
00:13:37,772 --> 00:13:41,272
Well, uh, this time we're kind of done with a little bit of Fairview history.

143
00:13:41,272 --> 00:13:44,652
We'll go to some Tennessee history for a bit in 1540.

144
00:13:44,832 --> 00:13:51,812
Uh, and we're actually 1539, uh, Henry DeSoto landed at what is now, uh, known as Charlotte

145
00:13:51,812 --> 00:13:57,052
Harbor in Florida, in the Gulf coast with a military detachment of 640 volunteers.

146
00:13:57,232 --> 00:13:58,712
Not sure they were really volunteers.

147
00:13:59,312 --> 00:14:04,592
With an average age of 24, selected to establish a Spanish colony near the Mississippi River.

148
00:14:05,292 --> 00:14:09,792
After spending the winter in northern Florida with news of gold in the direction of the rising sun,

149
00:14:10,272 --> 00:14:15,952
he headed northeast in the spring of 1540, crossing Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

150
00:14:15,952 --> 00:14:21,672
With no success in finding gold, he returned to the west, entering Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama,

151
00:14:21,892 --> 00:14:25,072
while trying to reach Mobile Bay to meet his ships.

152
00:14:25,072 --> 00:14:34,352
However, in October of 1540, the chief of Tuscaloosa tribe ambushed DeSoto's army with 100 miles from port.

153
00:14:34,772 --> 00:14:44,192
In spite of leaving victorious, DeSoto withdrew to the north, passed the Tennessee River so his men could be isolated and were unable to escape to their ships.

154
00:14:44,592 --> 00:14:53,032
This is kind of our first clash of Native Americans and the Spanish within the United States.

155
00:14:53,032 --> 00:14:59,612
And some of these tribes that ran into conflicts were the Crete, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, and Catawba.

156
00:15:00,272 --> 00:15:13,012
And each one of these tribes ran into kind of early people from the colonies of Europeans over there.

157
00:15:13,192 --> 00:15:18,112
And so this was at this time, it was pretty much the Spanish were the ones here at those early times.

158
00:15:18,112 --> 00:15:18,972
Upcoming events.

159
00:15:18,972 --> 00:15:27,752
Well, recap, basically January 22nd, Herpes Heroes at Bowie Park was canceled because of one of the instructor being sick.

160
00:15:28,332 --> 00:15:33,392
And I'm guessing the Young Life group membership was probably also rescheduled.

161
00:15:33,552 --> 00:15:35,212
I couldn't find anything on that.

162
00:15:35,532 --> 00:15:39,412
And that was going to be at First Baptist Church on January 26th.

163
00:15:39,412 --> 00:15:43,092
But with the snowstorm and school closed, I'm guessing it got moved.

164
00:15:43,992 --> 00:15:48,412
January 30th is the seed swap, which I don't know what's going to happen at Bowie Park.

165
00:15:48,412 --> 00:15:50,372
so we'll see how that goes

166
00:15:50,372 --> 00:15:52,992
February 7th is still on

167
00:15:52,992 --> 00:15:55,112
the sweetheart father and daughter dance

168
00:15:55,112 --> 00:15:56,572
is ages 5 to 14

169
00:15:56,572 --> 00:15:57,852
is $30 per couple

170
00:15:57,852 --> 00:16:00,572
at the Williamson County Enrichment Center

171
00:16:00,572 --> 00:16:02,512
there's a 3.30 to 5

172
00:16:02,512 --> 00:16:04,192
and a 6 to 7.30 dance

173
00:16:04,192 --> 00:16:06,112
so we've got the link for those tickets there

174
00:16:06,112 --> 00:16:09,532
February 26th and 28th

175
00:16:09,532 --> 00:16:10,912
at 9am to 4pm

176
00:16:10,912 --> 00:16:13,092
is the winter book sale at our library

177
00:16:13,092 --> 00:16:14,512
so please go for it here

178
00:16:14,512 --> 00:16:15,892
we've got a link to their page

179
00:16:15,892 --> 00:16:22,532
uh april 28th is the fairview titans junior pro first annual four-man golf scramble tournament

180
00:16:22,532 --> 00:16:28,072
march 28th is our easter egg hunt and may 2nd is our arts and crafts fair

181
00:16:28,072 --> 00:16:34,952
and we've also got the voting schedule on here basically may 5th is when the county primary

182
00:16:34,952 --> 00:16:42,392
is august 6th is the state and county general primary and then finally the federal election

183
00:16:42,392 --> 00:16:47,032
is on November 3rd. So that Senate bill that they're trying to go through, which I guess could

184
00:16:47,032 --> 00:16:54,132
not happen now for this election year, would eliminate that May and August election and only

185
00:16:54,132 --> 00:16:58,992
have the November election of those federal elections to coincide with. It's not going to

186
00:16:58,992 --> 00:17:05,092
co-term things to be federal elections, but just move it to that part of the year. For the kids,

187
00:17:05,472 --> 00:17:09,932
there's still tons of activities to do in sports here in February to keep your kids engaged.

188
00:17:09,932 --> 00:17:15,552
There are cheer programs, recreation teams for baseball, basketball, football, and others.

189
00:17:16,052 --> 00:17:18,852
There's a thriving Girl Scouts and Scouts PSA program.

190
00:17:19,372 --> 00:17:23,792
If you have a homeschooler, always check out Bowie Park for their schedule and clubs that meet there.

191
00:17:24,132 --> 00:17:30,352
If you have kids who are interested in dance, gymnastics, or cheer, please check out Lala's Dance Studio or Elevate Gymnastics and cheer.

192
00:17:31,572 --> 00:17:37,192
Vigilance Martial Arts is our local Taekwondo and Jiu-Jitsu school that teaches way more than moves.

193
00:17:37,192 --> 00:17:43,372
and the Fairview Youth Jacket Wrestling Program is a great option and program with a lot of state

194
00:17:43,372 --> 00:17:49,892
champions and things like that and there is a new Rec League Fairview Youth Volleyball Division

195
00:17:49,892 --> 00:17:58,292
that is coming up for ages 7 to 9, 10 to 11, and 12 to 14 and so the practices will begin in the

196
00:17:58,292 --> 00:18:03,452
week of March 16th and there will be specific ones for that and they already have their game

197
00:18:03,452 --> 00:18:08,212
days listed on here so check it out and go to the fairview recreation complex to sign up

198
00:18:08,212 --> 00:18:16,892
school news well no school since uh this week on monday some of the when the blizzard came

199
00:18:16,892 --> 00:18:22,212
and with the temperatures uh so maybe with the temperatures coming up they may not be back to

200
00:18:22,212 --> 00:18:27,912
school till next show honestly uh with the snow coming in on saturday it definitely wrecked the

201
00:18:27,912 --> 00:18:33,472
weekend for most, but really stole two extra snow days from all our kids, and they are very sad.

202
00:18:34,192 --> 00:18:40,412
But even once they get back to school sometime next week, they only have a week or so before the

203
00:18:40,412 --> 00:18:46,432
February 12th through 15th midwinter break, President's Day, over that Valentine's Day weekend.

204
00:18:47,312 --> 00:18:52,192
Hawken Tiger news, nothing new since last week. I haven't been able to get really any updates out

205
00:18:52,192 --> 00:18:56,192
of their other website or any of the PTO pages or any of that. Falcon news.

206
00:18:57,912 --> 00:19:05,072
The newsletter was late from last week, so we don't have anything from the latest from this week since school is out.

207
00:19:05,692 --> 00:19:09,852
There is a competitive robotics team that's starting and information will be available.

208
00:19:10,492 --> 00:19:14,132
Some new athletic field layouts are coming.

209
00:19:14,252 --> 00:19:18,172
Maybe this year that might be related to the piles of dirt in the front of the school.

210
00:19:18,952 --> 00:19:23,112
The top students were recognized from the House of Armor, Honor, and Valor.

211
00:19:23,392 --> 00:19:26,972
Staff member of the week, which was last week, was Miss Oliphant.

212
00:19:27,912 --> 00:19:43,968
More discussions about how the school is working to become a reward school which is achievements attendance and growth The Cupid grams are available from the FMS PTO per student with each of those being delivered on the 12th

213
00:19:43,968 --> 00:19:48,588
which will include a cookie drink and a crush drink and a note.

214
00:19:49,028 --> 00:19:53,548
This is always an easy way to show your student that you're paying attention to them and their schedule

215
00:19:53,548 --> 00:19:56,568
and giving a little something to make their day a little more better.

216
00:19:56,568 --> 00:20:04,488
a bunch of this will have to be rescheduled listed below here because it looks like you know the

217
00:20:04,488 --> 00:20:09,288
softball meeting on the 26th was probably obviously canceled and rescheduled we don't

218
00:20:09,288 --> 00:20:16,688
have a date yet for that and the track parent meeting at 6 p.m on January 27th but February

219
00:20:16,688 --> 00:20:23,808
12th is still spring picture day March 5th is makeup spring pictures rising freshman night at

220
00:20:23,808 --> 00:20:30,368
FHS is February 18th for all rising families. Eighth grader course selection will be February

221
00:20:30,368 --> 00:20:38,068
19th through March 5th at the FMS library. The high school counselors will meet with them and

222
00:20:38,068 --> 00:20:42,208
try to help them get planned in there. If you have an IEP, then all that will be ran through there.

223
00:20:43,008 --> 00:20:48,468
You can use the link below and contact them for the meeting time. Jacket News, well, they sent a

224
00:20:48,468 --> 00:20:54,988
newsletter even with the snow day uh and it worked this week yay so next week there'll be the coming

225
00:20:54,988 --> 00:21:00,208
home week uh where there's dress up days where the first day you're doing a student teacher swap

226
00:21:00,208 --> 00:21:04,908
dress your age so obviously freshmen or babies white lie shirts where you're going to write

227
00:21:04,908 --> 00:21:10,228
something on a white shirt disney villains and then friday is jacket pride with the snow i'm

228
00:21:10,228 --> 00:21:16,948
guessing the lady jackets flag football uh tryouts on the 25th will be rescheduled and even the

229
00:21:16,948 --> 00:21:24,628
January 30th coming home may be rescheduled because of these snow days. February 13th through

230
00:21:24,628 --> 00:21:31,228
16th is that midwinter break. March 6th is the end of that third quarter. March 9th through 13th

231
00:21:31,228 --> 00:21:37,928
is the spring break. And April 3rd is the spring holiday, no school. And May 21st is our last day

232
00:21:37,928 --> 00:21:45,188
of school for all our schools with 1120 dismissal. The Fairview Recreation Association needs empires

233
00:21:45,188 --> 00:21:54,848
and they have games starting on January 31st at 10A or tryouts on January 31st and in February 21st

234
00:21:54,848 --> 00:22:04,868
so definitely check them out for that then below here applications to the Innovation Center and

235
00:22:04,868 --> 00:22:11,468
the Entrepreneur Center are still open if you're into if your kids wanting to get into that so get

236
00:22:11,468 --> 00:22:17,508
on ClassLink, you have basically between both programs till February 13th to make a decision on

237
00:22:17,508 --> 00:22:23,708
either one of these options for the Entrepreneurship Center or the Innovation Center.

238
00:22:24,868 --> 00:22:31,368
Faith moment. I've mentioned the Founders Bible before, but one of the things I've enjoyed so much

239
00:22:31,368 --> 00:22:37,948
about this is the stories of our founding fathers, presidents, and other notable historic figures,

240
00:22:37,948 --> 00:22:42,448
and how the faith and the Bible and the country are one in the same.

241
00:22:43,528 --> 00:22:46,548
So this time I wanted to do a couple of quotes.

242
00:22:46,728 --> 00:22:48,848
Some of these are in the book and some of these are not.

243
00:22:49,128 --> 00:22:52,628
But, you know, George Washington, you know, president number one here.

244
00:22:53,348 --> 00:22:58,628
You know, it is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.

245
00:22:59,428 --> 00:23:00,008
Pretty simple.

246
00:23:00,288 --> 00:23:02,268
John Adams, the second president.

247
00:23:02,268 --> 00:23:21,008
So great is the veneration of the Bible that earlier my children began to read it, the more confident will they become by hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society.

248
00:23:21,708 --> 00:23:26,548
I have made a practice every day for several years to read through the Bible.

249
00:23:26,548 --> 00:23:34,248
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president, in regard to this great book, I have but to say it is the best

250
00:23:34,248 --> 00:23:41,008
gift from God given to man. All the good Savior gave to the world was communicated through this

251
00:23:41,008 --> 00:23:48,928
book, but for it, we could not know the right from wrong. All things most desirable for man's

252
00:23:48,928 --> 00:23:55,488
welfare here and hereafter are found and portrayed in it. Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president,

253
00:23:55,488 --> 00:24:00,528
But hold fast to the Bible as the sheet anchor of your liberties.

254
00:24:01,208 --> 00:24:05,468
Write its precepts in your hearts and practice them in your lives.

255
00:24:05,468 --> 00:24:12,208
To influence of this book, we are indebted for all progress made in true civilization.

256
00:24:14,668 --> 00:24:18,668
And to this, we must look at it as our guide to the future.

257
00:24:19,028 --> 00:24:25,188
Righteousness exalted a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

258
00:24:25,488 --> 00:24:28,368
And I've got a link to the Founders Bible in there.

259
00:24:28,608 --> 00:24:29,368
Welcome back.

260
00:24:29,568 --> 00:24:35,848
I hope you learned a little bit from these quotes and heard from these four presidents that I think we should know and understand.

261
00:24:36,048 --> 00:24:43,848
I think it's even more important to ensure your children have connection between the country and understand the country, the connection between our country and the Bible.

262
00:24:45,248 --> 00:24:51,028
We have seen some times of escalating tension and the word of God can go a long way to help.

263
00:24:51,028 --> 00:24:56,528
but it's also relevant to our country's founding and everyone should know that in the United States of America.

264
00:24:57,268 --> 00:24:59,768
