EP: 16 "Almost the New Year”
This is the Fairview, TN News from Dec 24-31st 2025.
Welcome to Episode 16 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas. This is a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire. Local Radio stations and newspapers don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview. This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive. This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, over 18 years ago.
Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know. Use the contact form on the website, and we will work to get updates into the next episode. You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value. Some shows will be longer, others shorter, but I will do my best to keep things relevant.
Traffic Time
Normal Busy, where you can wait 2-5 minutes to make a left in the morning and the afternoon. Cumberland, and 100 is still getting some regular work. They are still working to build culverts on the East- and westbound sides to widen the road. We are less than one year out from it being done. We had the front of Chester Road closed this week, as it was reported to be for drainage work, but this is one of those things I wish were listed on the City’s website with a clear description and the cost.
Redlight Update – We currently still have three (Old Cox, Publix, & Walmart). Still, we will soon be getting one at the new City Center Entrance and at the Cumberland and 100 intersection when that expansion occurs. I’m not sure how it will help or hurt yet, but I hope the crossing guard can control it during the morning and evening school rush.
City Center – Traffic closures will continue periodically as they appear to be finishing some of the final drainage and grading.

New Businesses
Nothing New was spotted. Ace Hardware is still brewing and making some progress. They have made a lot of progress outside. The property across from Carr Orthodontics finally has a For Sale sign on it, after months of clearing and leveling. Other than that, I spotted nothing new this week, and I'm waiting to see what else is coming. There are still a couple of properties for sale around the area. Still the same three properties listed for sale.

History Nugget
New Years
Civilizations around the world have been celebrating the start of each new year for at least four millennia. Today, most New Year’s festivities begin on December 31 (New Year’s Eve), the last day of the Gregorian calendar, and continue into the early hours of January 1 (New Year’s Day). Common traditions include attending parties, eating special New Year’s foods, making resolutions for the new year, and watching fireworks displays.
The earliest recorded festivities in honor of a new year’s arrival date back some 4,000 years to ancient Babylon. For the Babylonians, the first new moon following the vernal equinox—the day in late March with an equal amount of sunlight and darkness—heralded the start of a new year. They marked the occasion with a massive religious festival called Akitu (derived from the Sumerian word for barley, which was cut in the spring) that involved a different ritual on each of its 11 days.
In addition to the new year, Atiku celebrated the mythical victory of the Babylonian sky god Marduk over the evil sea goddess Tiamat, and it served an important political purpose: it was during this time that a new king was crowned or the current ruler’s divine mandate was symbolically renewed.
January 1 Becomes New Year's Day
The early Roman calendar consisted of 10 months and 304 days, with each new year beginning at the vernal equinox; according to tradition, it was created by Romulus, the founder of Rome, in the eighth century B.C. A later king, Numa Pompilius, is credited with adding the months of Januarius and Februarius.
Over the centuries, the calendar fell out of sync with the sun, and in 46 B.C. Julius Caesar decided to solve the problem by consulting with the most prominent astronomers and mathematicians of his time. He introduced the Julian calendar, which closely resembles the modern Gregorian calendar used by most countries today.
In the United States, the most iconic New Year’s tradition is the dropping of a giant ball in New York City’s Times Square at the stroke of midnight. Millions of people around the world watch the event, which has taken place almost every year since 1907. Over time, the ball itself has ballooned from a 700-pound iron-and-wood orb to a brightly patterned sphere 12 feet in diameter and weighing in at nearly 12,000 pounds. Various towns and cities across America have developed their own versions of the Times Square ritual, organizing public drops of items ranging from pickles (Dillsburg, Pennsylvania) to possums (Tallapoosa, Georgia) at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Faith Moment
This week I think about the new year that is coming just a couple of hours away today. This is a great time to look back at your year and the blessings you have had. For some, that may be hard to do as tragedies and turmoil have been part of 2025. But we know that those pains can turn into greatness in many ways, too, and you have to keep going and following your faith. Figured since this is the last show of the year I would do something different and just read something instead of finding a sermon. I found a couple of New Year's messages and have glued them together, so here we go!
Can you believe it? Having just celebrated Christmas Day, we look back on the past year and ahead to the new year. This morning , as we reflect upon this new year, I would to share with you once again a message entitled A New Year. I hope that this year’s resolutions will remind us of Christ and our personal relationship and worship with Him.
As the year draws to a close, what kind of year has it been for you? Has it been a year to cherish or a year to forget quickly? Whatever the year’s tone for us, this week fills us with hope. A hope that a new year will bring a change for us. A chance for a fresh new start- a new beginning. And with that, many of us make New Year's resolutions- pledges or promises to yourself or to God that you will personally be different this year.
This morning I want to focus on some New Year’s resolutions that each of us should consider for ourselves, but before we delve into our topic, I thought you might enjoy a few stories of failed resolutions:
A Story - A son called his parents to wish them a happy New Year, and when his Dad answered the phone, He asked his dad,” Well, Dad, what’s your New Year’s resolution? His dad replied, "To make your mother as happy as I can all year," When his mom got on the phone, he asked. her the same question. His mom replied My resolution is ‘To see that your dad keeps his New Year’s resolution."
Or some of you may have given up on resolutions, taking the same attitude as the characters in the cartoon Calvin and Hobbes:
The cartoon character Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes once said, “God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now, I’m so far behind I’ll never die.”
Regardless of past successes or failures… Please give a New Year's resolution one more try, but this time realize that keeping this promise is a team effort. Invite the Holy Spirit to join you this year…
The disciples were faced with a new day. Their master, Jesus, had died. Their hopes were crushed. Their dreams were shattered. As per Jesus’ instructions, they assembled in an upper room, knowing what needed to be done but lacking both the power and the desire to carry it out. It was here in their doubt that the Holy Spirit entered the picture.
Turn to Acts chapter 2 beginning in verse 1. The Holy Spirit powerfully entered their lives, and they became bold preachers of the Gospel.
Jesus spoke of this same Holy Spirit in John chapter 14, verse 26, when he said: But when the Father sends the Counselor as my representative- and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit- He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you.
As we contemplate a new year’s resolution, we must do so realizing that we cannot be successful in keeping it apart from God. John 15:5 \ says… Apart from me, you can do nothing. And I am clearly God. So you are not alone.
With these thoughts in mind, I would like to offer you some good resolutions for you to consider.
First, Find time for God- Build that Personal relationship with Christ.
In the course of each day make time to spend with God creatively. You know, I have a saying that if you want something to happen, write it down, put it into an active calendar, and guess what, the odds of it happening just increased. Look at your day… where in that day can you make an appointment to spend with Jesus? Then write under that time slot in your calendar, Jesus. Invite Jesus to meet you.
In this time you can read your bible, read an inspirational magazine or book, pray, sing, walk, journal, etc. How boring are our friendships where we say and do the same things every time we are together.
Also start with short amounts of time… Use the exercise principles. If you spend an hour exercising in the beginning, you will be too sore to exercise at all the next day. I remember in College I found this place called a weight room, come to think of it, it was probably a result of a New Year’s resolution to be a muscle man. I go into the gym, and I see a tiny girl pumping the iron machines… I infer if she can do it so can I… I did realize that she had been working out like this for years… I was so sore the next day that I did go back there for a year… Pace yourself. Jesus would rather meet with you for one minute a day than 20 minutes one day a year.
Donations
On the Donations front, nothing new from Fountain. We will have other payment options soon, just waiting for the tax man stuff to finish. We covered Fountain and Stripe Setup in the last episode, so a Donate button lets you use your Credit Card and other Payment methods through Stripe.
A monthly Supporter option is available for just $3.50. If you haven’t seen the website, please take a look. A lot has been added since last week, and I think you will find it helpful, including the calendar, Church and Business List, and more. We will announce your first name or business name if you become a monthly supporter or make a donation of $19.59 or more, unless you include a note stating not to be anonymous (e.g., 'The year we were incorporated'). I hope some business people will support this to make it even better! Be a producer, subscribe, and share with others about this Podcast to help get the news out to everyone in Fairview. I need to catch up on social media things to get the word out, but I’m trying to get the website and payments sorted first.

Howdy, and welcome to episode 16 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here

in Fairview for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.
3
00:00:11,460 --> 00:00:16,980
This is a weekly show released every Wednesday featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire

local radio stations and newspapers don't exist in small towns like ours.

So we use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.
6
00:00:24,940 --> 00:00:29,240
This is a value for value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value
7
00:00:29,240 --> 00:00:33,980
you receive. This concept was founded by the podfather himself, Adam Curry, and his co-host,
8
00:00:34,080 --> 00:00:38,700
John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show over 18 years ago. Currently, this is just a one-man
9
00:00:38,700 --> 00:00:42,900
operation. So if you have any ideas, events, or business opportunities, job openings,
10
00:00:43,380 --> 00:00:47,300
please don't hesitate to let me know. Use the contact form on the website and we'll work on
11
00:00:47,300 --> 00:00:51,900
getting those updates out to the next week. You are producer of the show. You are not the product
12
00:00:51,900 --> 00:00:58,840
because your time is not being sold to advertisers for value. Some shows will be longer and some
13
00:00:58,840 --> 00:01:03,440
will be shorter, but I'll always try to do my best to keep things relevant. Traffic time. Well,
14
00:01:03,800 --> 00:01:07,660
normal busy. You can still wait two to five minutes to make a left-hand turn in the mornings
15
00:01:07,660 --> 00:01:11,960
and afternoons. And 100 is still getting some regular work. They're still working to build
16
00:01:11,960 --> 00:01:17,460
those culverts east and westbound sides of Cumberland and 100. We're less than one year
17
00:01:17,460 --> 00:01:22,380
away from that. We also had road closures on Chester Road that were supposed to just be the
18
00:01:22,380 --> 00:01:27,140
26th and 27th, but it looked like it went a little longer because it was still even closed yesterday
19
00:01:27,140 --> 00:01:34,100
on the 30th so as it's reported that it's reported that it's for drainage but i wish the city would
20
00:01:34,100 --> 00:01:42,460
actually list uh exactly what's being done and the cost um because otherwise we're just kind of
21
00:01:42,460 --> 00:01:48,400
fairview then and now and just rumors is all we're getting because even the post from the city isn't
22
00:01:48,400 --> 00:01:54,780
detailed enough to actually do anything red light update we still got three right old cox publics
23
00:01:54,780 --> 00:02:00,340
Walmart still getting some soon at city center in Cumberland, but those are going to be months
24
00:02:00,340 --> 00:02:04,640
in the past year out. Um, I haven't seen any extra paving work. It's probably been too cold,
25
00:02:04,640 --> 00:02:08,500
uh, for city center to get any of that done. So we'll have to see how that goes.
26
00:02:09,080 --> 00:02:15,200
We're growing well, city news. There's not really anything posted that much other than the
27
00:02:15,200 --> 00:02:20,820
Fairview fire department saying, be careful on new year's Eve, uh, and don't use sky lanterns
28
00:02:20,820 --> 00:02:26,660
because they are banned. Leaf service is still going on right now if you need that. This is the
29
00:02:26,660 --> 00:02:34,560
last day, last call to order your picket for the Bowie Nature Park. So make sure you get that,
30
00:02:34,560 --> 00:02:42,500
fill out the form, and submit it to the email address on the website. Houses. There are 209
31
00:02:42,500 --> 00:02:50,060
for sale, down from 214 last week. We still have the same most expensive house of $3.495 million on
32
00:02:50,060 --> 00:02:57,840
70 acres and the lowest of 250k of no acres in a townhome. So it looks like, I guess, things are
33
00:02:57,840 --> 00:03:02,340
actually still getting sold and moved and closed or unlisted, I guess, is probably another thing.
34
00:03:02,340 --> 00:03:08,500
So you can't really tell some of that. Town meeting updates. So there has been no meeting
35
00:03:08,500 --> 00:03:13,820
since the last episode because it is still Christmas break. And so the next meeting is
36
00:03:13,820 --> 00:03:19,840
this Friday coming up, which is January 5th at 7 p.m. at the Historical Village. And that's the
37
00:03:19,840 --> 00:03:24,060
Parks and Landscape Board, which based on the last Board of Commissioners and Planning Commission
38
00:03:24,060 --> 00:03:31,080
meeting where they came and spoke, there could be some actual activity happening there. There
39
00:03:31,080 --> 00:03:35,620
normally is, but it looks like they're going to make some movement there and probably make some
40
00:03:35,620 --> 00:03:39,520
of their list and hopefully get that back to the city and they can start doing some stuff.
41
00:03:39,920 --> 00:03:44,780
But otherwise, we just got to wait a week or so. January 13th and January 15th is the next
42
00:03:44,780 --> 00:03:50,140
planning commission and board of commissioners meeting and then from there it's um
43
00:03:50,140 --> 00:03:56,680
and then we have the around town coffee on the 14th and you know no other things are scheduled
44
00:03:56,680 --> 00:04:03,360
after that the state of tennessee uh most news right now that i was finding is just recapping
45
00:04:03,360 --> 00:04:07,720
the year which would be like way too much for this segment so we're not going to get into that
46
00:04:07,720 --> 00:04:12,320
but you know tennessee lawmakers right now are also trying to struggle and i guess get some stuff
47
00:04:12,320 --> 00:04:18,440
done after Trump, President Donald Trump executive order to loosen some of the cannabis restrictions,
48
00:04:18,660 --> 00:04:24,240
which is changing the drug classification. So we'll have to see that. We also talked about it
49
00:04:24,240 --> 00:04:28,600
last show and the show before that about some of the new laws related to cannabis in the state of
50
00:04:28,600 --> 00:04:36,220
Tennessee. So that's going there. And then it looks like for Governor Bill Lee and the Department
51
00:04:36,220 --> 00:04:42,940
of Transportation will read, uh, announce the award of over 42 million in state and federal
52
00:04:42,940 --> 00:04:49,380
funds that will support multimodal investments in walking and bike transits, uh, in statewide
53
00:04:49,380 --> 00:04:54,600
in Tennessee. So I'm sure we'll start seeing some of that at the Tennessee house and state as they
54
00:04:54,600 --> 00:05:00,020
start allocating those funds in more detail. I couldn't find anything on it. The bills. Well,
55
00:05:00,120 --> 00:05:04,940
nothing is going on here because they'd be closed. So we'll have to see what they come up with next
56
00:05:04,940 --> 00:05:20,040
year how the hill well it definitely passable we back to cold uh how did we have a snap just a couple days ago with it being in the mid and then to 29 and 20 low 20 mid I guess or next morning
57
00:05:20,600 --> 00:05:31,560
The weather guessers are predicting weather at the 6, between the highs in the 60s and 30s with some rain next weekend and the lows ranging from 30 to 50.
58
00:05:32,440 --> 00:05:35,080
Winter is, I guess, coming back.
59
00:05:35,420 --> 00:05:36,580
We'll see how this goes.
60
00:05:36,580 --> 00:05:38,260
It's always a fun time.
61
00:05:38,740 --> 00:05:44,520
New businesses and businesses, nothing new spotted. Ace Hardware still growing. Looks like
62
00:05:44,520 --> 00:05:48,720
they slowed down a little bit, obviously, this week, but they're making progress outside.
63
00:05:50,380 --> 00:05:55,120
The property on Car Orthotics, I still haven't been able to find that listing on their own
64
00:05:55,120 --> 00:05:59,160
realty website because I'm interested to see how much it is because it's still residential. It
65
00:05:59,160 --> 00:06:02,440
hasn't been zoned to commercial, even though it's been set up to be that way.
66
00:06:03,600 --> 00:06:07,700
Farmer's Market, make sure you go to the Farmer's Market every Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
67
00:06:07,700 --> 00:06:12,320
at Mesa Chiropractic and Fairview Fresh Deli Donuts for their life-changing apple fritters
68
00:06:12,320 --> 00:06:17,080
located across the road from Publix. There are many good places to get breads, treats, local beef
69
00:06:17,080 --> 00:06:21,120
and pork and fruits and vegetables along with some hot sauce, fishing lures and other holiday
70
00:06:21,120 --> 00:06:26,780
gifts this time of year. You'll see some of those holiday gift people kind of trailing off and
71
00:06:26,780 --> 00:06:32,760
obviously it's really cold so you'll see that kind of also do stuff too. Local business highlight so
72
00:06:32,760 --> 00:06:34,920
So brick and mortar, we've got Jade Walk.
73
00:06:35,120 --> 00:06:40,760
Jade Walk is our Chinese restaurant that offers authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine right here in Fairview.
74
00:06:41,360 --> 00:06:47,760
Jade Walk's convenient location, affordable prices make it a restaurant, a natural choice for eat-in or take-out in Fairview community.
75
00:06:48,200 --> 00:06:51,580
Our restaurant is known for its variety of taste and high-quality fresh ingredients.
76
00:06:51,720 --> 00:06:54,860
Come and experience our friendly atmosphere and excellent service.
77
00:06:55,260 --> 00:06:56,600
They do a great job of service.
78
00:06:56,600 --> 00:06:58,380
I can definitely personally vouch for that.
79
00:06:58,600 --> 00:07:02,740
It's easy to order online or on the phone, and their food's fantastic.
80
00:07:02,760 --> 00:07:11,140
You will see them also supporting a lot of local events, just like we've talked about Snappies and Kanos and a couple others that are out there helping our community.
81
00:07:11,660 --> 00:07:14,180
So make sure you stop by and get some of their yummy food.
82
00:07:14,960 --> 00:07:15,780
Job openings.
83
00:07:16,300 --> 00:07:19,080
Well, there is still pretty much the same 29 jobs.
84
00:07:19,240 --> 00:07:29,300
Nothing's come on and off that list of things here right here in Fairview that range from Walmart to the police officer position to Taco Bell Pizza Hut.
85
00:07:29,300 --> 00:07:37,300
Pretty much every restaurant needs somebody around here, and almost every business that has a storefront needs somebody.
86
00:07:37,940 --> 00:07:43,760
So you definitely look at that list, and if you have any other job openings or internships or cool things or opportunities,
87
00:07:43,920 --> 00:07:46,980
especially for young people, let us know, and we will put it on the show.
88
00:07:48,160 --> 00:07:49,000
History Nugget.
89
00:07:49,000 --> 00:07:55,880
Well, it is New Year's Eve today on show day, December 31st, so let's talk about New Year's.
90
00:07:56,380 --> 00:08:02,360
Civilizations around the world have been celebrating the start of the new year for at least four millennia, so 4,000 years.
91
00:08:02,740 --> 00:08:09,780
Today, most New Year's festivities begin on December 31st, New Year's Eve, and the last day of the Gregorian calendar,
92
00:08:10,140 --> 00:08:13,500
and continue to the early hours of January 1st, the New Year's Day.
93
00:08:13,500 --> 00:08:22,880
Common traditions include, obviously, attending parties, eating special New Year's foods, making resolutions for the next year, and watching fireworks displays.
94
00:08:22,880 --> 00:08:30,880
The earliest festivities in honor of a New Year celebration, pretty much 4,000 years back all the way back to Babylon and the Babylonians.
95
00:08:31,800 --> 00:08:43,120
The first moon following was the vernal equinox, the day late in March when the equal amount of sunlight and darkness heralded as the start of the new year.
96
00:08:43,220 --> 00:08:47,940
So the new year for that calendar and those times was related 100% to the moon.
97
00:08:47,940 --> 00:08:57,160
They marked this occasion by a massive religious festival called Akitu, derived from Sumerian for the word for barley, which was cut in the spring.
98
00:08:57,780 --> 00:09:02,840
That involved a ritual on each that lasted 11 days from there.
99
00:09:03,080 --> 00:09:14,440
In addition, New Year's Atiku celebrated the mythical victory of the Babylonian sky god Marduk and the evil sea goddess Tiamut, who served an important political purpose.
100
00:09:14,440 --> 00:09:19,840
It was the time during the new king was crowned or the current ruler's divine mandate was kind of renewed.
101
00:09:20,860 --> 00:09:28,920
When January 1st became the New Year's Day, this was the early Roman calendar that consisted of 10 months and 304 days,
102
00:09:29,080 --> 00:09:37,400
with each new year beginning in the vernal equinox, which is that moon halfway, halfway, according to tradition.
103
00:09:37,400 --> 00:09:44,460
It was created by Romulus, the founder of Rome in the 8th century BC, and later King
104
00:09:44,460 --> 00:09:52,120
Numa Pompoulos is credited with adding the months of the Januarius and Februarius, which
105
00:09:52,120 --> 00:09:54,700
got us to the 12 months instead of the 10 months.
106
00:09:55,120 --> 00:09:59,880
Over the centuries, the calendar fell out of sync with the sun, and in 46 BC, Julius
107
00:09:59,880 --> 00:10:04,400
Caesar himself decided to solve the problem by consulting the most prominent astronomers
108
00:10:04,400 --> 00:10:06,300
and mathematicians of his time.
109
00:10:06,300 --> 00:10:14,040
He introduced then the Julian calendar, which closely resembled the modern Gregorian calendar,
110
00:10:14,040 --> 00:10:16,540
but used by most countries today.
111
00:10:16,540 --> 00:10:20,980
So you may actually hear a Julian date, which is a sequential number.
112
00:10:20,980 --> 00:10:34,900
It definitely a big thing in the military In the United States the most iconic New Year tradition is dropping of the giant ball in New York Times Square at the stroke of midnight Millions of people around the world go to the event in person since 1907
113
00:10:35,320 --> 00:10:46,940
Over time, the ball itself has ballooned from a 700-pound iron and wood orb brightly patterned with 12 feet diameter and now weighing at 17,000 pounds.
114
00:10:47,400 --> 00:10:50,740
Various towns and cities across America have developed their own traditions.
115
00:10:50,740 --> 00:11:04,120
We have one down here in Broadway of Times Square rituals organizing public items ranging from, you know, possums in in Tallapoosa, Georgia at midnight on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve.
116
00:11:05,660 --> 00:11:06,880
Upcoming events.
117
00:11:07,160 --> 00:11:08,740
Well, nothing really new.
118
00:11:08,940 --> 00:11:17,560
We have updated the calendar to have the new Bowie Park calendar for the year.
119
00:11:17,560 --> 00:11:30,540
And so this, the 8th, yeah, every Tuesday and Wednesday now, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is Project Feeder Watch to help track birds around there and learn about that.
120
00:11:31,000 --> 00:11:37,840
January 8th is Ooey Gooey Amphibians, designed for seven and under at Bowie Nature Center.
121
00:11:38,300 --> 00:11:39,940
So if you've got some kids, take them over there.
122
00:11:40,420 --> 00:11:43,900
January 13th, 10 to 12 p.m., is the Bowie Scrappers.
123
00:11:43,900 --> 00:11:50,320
This is a scrapbooking class where you bring your photos and materials and the class will help with some tips and tricks and all that.
124
00:11:50,700 --> 00:11:52,860
So if you're into scrapbooking, definitely head that out.
125
00:11:53,420 --> 00:11:56,160
January 22nd, 2 to 3 p.m. is Herpes Heroes.
126
00:11:56,740 --> 00:12:01,600
Eight and over, you'll learn all the forms of lizards and snakes from a herpetologist.
127
00:12:02,720 --> 00:12:06,220
January 30th at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is the seed swap.
128
00:12:06,220 --> 00:12:13,920
So come and bring your and exchange your seeds and cuttings and learn about a little bit about planting for the kids.
129
00:12:14,280 --> 00:12:18,260
There are tons of activities and sports here in Fairview to keep your kids engaged.
130
00:12:18,420 --> 00:12:23,680
There are some cheer programs and recreation teams for baseball, basketball, football and others.
131
00:12:23,860 --> 00:12:29,740
There's a thriving Girl Scouts and Scouts BSA programs from your elementary school kids to high school kids.
132
00:12:29,900 --> 00:12:36,180
If you have a homeschooler, always check out the Bowie Park schedule, which we just covered because there's lots of clubs and things that meet there.
133
00:12:36,220 --> 00:12:40,580
that you can go to. If you have kids that are interested in dance, gymnastics, or cheer,
134
00:12:40,700 --> 00:12:46,660
please check out Lala's Dance Studio and Elevate Gymnastics and Cheer. Vigilance Martial Arts is
135
00:12:46,660 --> 00:12:51,960
our local Taekwondo and Jiu-Jitsu school that teaches you more than moves. The Fairview Jacket
136
00:12:51,960 --> 00:12:56,980
Youth Wrestling has a great program when some champions have come from that and some summer
137
00:12:56,980 --> 00:13:02,000
training options, which is really cool. School news, well, we are still in Christmas break.
138
00:13:02,000 --> 00:13:06,920
is still in full effect. It started on December 18th as the half day, and they don't come back
139
00:13:06,920 --> 00:13:13,740
till next Monday, January 5th. Hawk and Tiger news. No news since last week. Falcon news.
140
00:13:14,160 --> 00:13:18,720
School is out, so not a lot of news. The Renaissance high school applications are still
141
00:13:18,720 --> 00:13:23,660
open for eighth graders till January 7th. On January 15th at 6 p.m., there'll be a meeting
142
00:13:23,660 --> 00:13:29,620
about the Mechatronics program at the Fairview High School to learn more about this program.
143
00:13:29,620 --> 00:13:34,040
If your kids like Adidas, there's still this going on in the fundraiser link.
144
00:13:34,740 --> 00:13:35,280
Jacket news.
145
00:13:35,560 --> 00:13:37,560
School is still out, so not a lot of news.
146
00:13:38,160 --> 00:13:39,560
We still talked about this.
147
00:13:39,620 --> 00:13:46,300
I think we've had this on the show for three episodes now, but the firearm safety training program and some of the things related to that.
148
00:13:46,400 --> 00:13:48,100
So this will be the last time that's on there.
149
00:13:48,900 --> 00:13:54,660
Applications for the Innovation Center are available on ClassLink from December 2nd to February 13th, 2026.
150
00:13:56,160 --> 00:13:58,540
Senior jackets and rings can still be ordered.
151
00:13:58,540 --> 00:14:05,440
on January 28th, there will be a, uh, open house at the entrepreneurship center at 6 PM. So if you
152
00:14:05,440 --> 00:14:11,400
have a student interested in that, uh, to go to that program in Franklin, uh, definitely do that.
153
00:14:11,400 --> 00:14:15,220
They need to be able to drive and get there. Um, and if you have a kid that is driving,
154
00:14:15,320 --> 00:14:19,300
then make sure they get their checkpoints, driving training program and get their parking pass
155
00:14:19,300 --> 00:14:25,200
faith moment this week. Uh, I think about the new year that is coming, uh, which is just a couple
156
00:14:25,200 --> 00:14:29,720
hours away, really. This is a great time to look back at your year and the blessings you've had.
157
00:14:29,800 --> 00:14:35,680
For some, that may be hard to do as tragedies and turmoil have been part of year 2025. But we know
158
00:14:35,680 --> 00:14:39,920
that these pains can turn into greatness in many ways too, and you have to keep going and following
159
00:14:39,920 --> 00:14:43,860
your faith. I figured since this is the last show of the year, I would do something different
160
00:14:43,860 --> 00:14:48,680
and just read something instead of finding a sermon and playing it. I found a couple of New
161
00:14:48,680 --> 00:14:53,860
Year's messages and kind of glued them together to try to make something that I think sounds pretty
162
00:14:53,860 --> 00:14:59,820
cool and makes sense. So here we go. Can you believe it? We've just celebrated Christmas day.
163
00:14:59,940 --> 00:15:05,340
We're looking at the past year ahead of us and of this new year. This morning, as we reflect upon
164
00:15:05,340 --> 00:15:10,620
the new year, I would like to share with you once again, a message talking about the new year.
165
00:15:11,060 --> 00:15:17,600
I hope that your resolutions will remind us of Christ and your personal relationship
166
00:15:17,600 --> 00:15:21,900
and worship with him. As the year draws close, what kind of year has it been for you?
167
00:15:21,900 --> 00:15:25,200
Has it been a year to cherish or a year to forget quickly?
168
00:15:25,660 --> 00:15:29,100
Whatever year the tone is for us, this week fills us with hope.
169
00:15:29,500 --> 00:15:35,580
Hope that the new year will bring a change to us, a chance for a fresh new start and beginning,
170
00:15:35,780 --> 00:15:49,940
and that many of us will make New Year resolutions pledges and promises to yourself or to God that you will personally be different this year This morning I want to focus on some of the New Year resolutions that each of us should
171
00:15:49,940 --> 00:15:53,100
consider ourselves, but also delve into that topic.
172
00:15:53,300 --> 00:15:57,760
I thought you might enjoy a couple stories of kind of like failed resolutions.
173
00:15:58,520 --> 00:15:59,740
So this is a fun story here.
174
00:16:00,100 --> 00:16:04,500
A son called his parents to wish him a happy New Year's, and his dad answered the phone.
175
00:16:04,500 --> 00:16:07,580
And when his dad asked, hey, well, dad, what's your New Year's resolution?
176
00:16:07,700 --> 00:16:12,980
His dad replied, to make your mother as happy as I can all year.
177
00:16:13,140 --> 00:16:16,940
When his mom got on the phone, he asked again her the same question.
178
00:16:17,280 --> 00:16:22,860
His mom replied, my resolution is to see that your dad keeps his New Year's resolution.
179
00:16:24,820 --> 00:16:32,160
Or some of you may have given up on resolutions, taken the same attitude as many characters and cartoons and like Calvin and Hobbes.
180
00:16:32,160 --> 00:16:38,080
Like the Calvin and Hobbes story once said, God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things.
181
00:16:38,180 --> 00:16:40,920
Right now, I'm far behind, so I will never die.
182
00:16:41,500 --> 00:16:45,920
Regardless of your past successes or failures, please give New Year's resolution one more try.
183
00:16:46,240 --> 00:16:50,140
But this time realize that keeping the promise is a tenet, a team effort.
184
00:16:51,320 --> 00:16:55,300
Invite the Holy Spirit to join you in this year and don't just do it all on your own.
185
00:16:56,160 --> 00:16:59,360
The disciples were also faced with a new day.
186
00:16:59,360 --> 00:17:00,980
Their master Jesus had died.
187
00:17:00,980 --> 00:17:12,860
Their hopes were crushed. Their dreams were shattered. As per Jesus' instructions, they were assembled in an upper room, knowing that what needed to be done, but lacking both the power and the desire to carry it out.
188
00:17:13,320 --> 00:17:17,280
It was here in their doubt that the Holy Spirit entered the picture.
189
00:17:18,080 --> 00:17:26,960
Turn to Acts chapter 2, beginning in verse 1. The Holy Spirit has powerfully entered their lives, and they became bold preachers of the gospel.
190
00:17:26,960 --> 00:17:32,960
Jesus spoke of the same Holy Spirit in John chapter 4, verse 26, when he said,
191
00:17:33,140 --> 00:17:39,240
but when the Father sends the counselor as my representative, and by the counselor, I mean the Holy Spirit,
192
00:17:39,380 --> 00:17:45,220
he will teach you everything, and I will remind you of everything I myself have told you.
193
00:17:46,100 --> 00:17:53,720
As we contemplate a New Year's resolution, we must do so realizing we cannot be successful in keeping it apart from God.
194
00:17:54,260 --> 00:17:58,680
John 15, 15 says, apart from me, you can do nothing.
195
00:17:58,760 --> 00:18:00,800
And I am clearly God.
196
00:18:00,960 --> 00:18:02,440
So you are not alone.
197
00:18:03,640 --> 00:18:07,660
Clearly with these thoughts of mine, I would offer you some good resolutions to consider.
198
00:18:07,900 --> 00:18:09,360
First, find time for God.
199
00:18:09,880 --> 00:18:13,340
Build a personal relationship with Christ in the course of each day.
200
00:18:13,440 --> 00:18:15,160
Make time to spend with God creatively.
201
00:18:16,700 --> 00:18:18,760
You know, I've been saying this for a long time.
202
00:18:18,980 --> 00:18:20,620
And, you know, write, make something happen.
203
00:18:20,740 --> 00:18:21,360
Write it down.
204
00:18:21,520 --> 00:18:22,860
Actually put it on your calendar.
205
00:18:22,860 --> 00:18:25,360
What are the odds that it just increases?
206
00:18:25,600 --> 00:18:26,260
Look at your day.
207
00:18:26,740 --> 00:18:28,900
Where can you make an appointment to spend a little time?
208
00:18:29,240 --> 00:18:30,000
Then write it down.
209
00:18:30,280 --> 00:18:31,100
Find that time slot.
210
00:18:31,260 --> 00:18:31,840
Use your phone.
211
00:18:31,980 --> 00:18:32,720
Use the technology.
212
00:18:33,260 --> 00:18:34,400
Invite Jesus to meet you.
213
00:18:35,120 --> 00:18:40,120
In this time, you can read your Bible, read an inspirational magazine or book, pray, sing,
214
00:18:40,240 --> 00:18:40,880
walk, journal.
215
00:18:41,640 --> 00:18:48,040
How boring are our friendships where we are to do the same thing every time we are together?
216
00:18:48,380 --> 00:18:49,100
So do something.
217
00:18:49,700 --> 00:18:52,180
Also start with short amounts of time.
218
00:18:52,180 --> 00:18:56,040
Don't try to do two hours of praying and meditating or something like that.
219
00:18:56,120 --> 00:18:57,220
Use exercise principles.
220
00:18:57,840 --> 00:19:05,080
If you spend an hour exercising in the beginning, you will be too sore to exercise at all the next day.
221
00:19:05,860 --> 00:19:12,520
Remember, you found this place in the weight room, and if you come in there and you work at it and the resolution of muscle man,
222
00:19:12,600 --> 00:19:20,200
you'll go to the gym and you'll see someone working out, and I can do it, and then you're going to realize you can't unless you put the work in for years.
223
00:19:20,200 --> 00:19:26,180
so this is where you need to pace yourself with jesus and meet him for one minute a day rather
224
00:19:26,180 --> 00:19:34,020
than 20 minutes a day of each year so hopefully that was good uh that was kind of uh all over
225
00:19:34,020 --> 00:19:39,220
the place a little bit but uh it was something that i came up with and found here some donations
226
00:19:39,220 --> 00:19:43,480
the donations fronts nothing new from fountain we still have to get some of the payment stuff done
