EP: 15 "Christmas”
This is the Fairview, TN News from Dec 17-24th 2025.
Welcome to Episode 15 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas. This is a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire. Local Radio stations and newspapers don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview. This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive. This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, over 18 years ago.
Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know. Use the contact form on the website, and we will work to get updates into the next episode. You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value. Some shows will be longer, others shorter, but I will do my best to keep things relevant.
Traffic Time
Normal Busy, where you can wait 2-5 minutes to make a left in the morning and the afternoon. Cumberland, and 100 is still getting some regular work. They are still working to build culverts on the East- and westbound sides to widen the road. They had some steel that had to be pulled up on the eastbound side of the intersection because it was becoming loose, and people were swerving into the other lane. We are less than one year out from it being done.
Redlight Update – We currently still have three (Old Cox, Publix, & Walmart). Still, we will soon be getting one at the new City Center Entrance and at the Cumberland and 100 intersection when that expansion occurs. I’m not sure how it will help or hurt yet, but I hope the crossing guard can control it during the morning and evening school rush.
City Center – Traffic closures will continue periodically as they appear to be finishing some of the final drainage and grading.

The State of TN (Not In Order) https://tennesseelookout.com/category/politics/ https://www.tn.gov/news.html
- The US Senate approved four of the TVA board nominees but left Lee Beaman off, so he would need a new nomination to get on the board.
- Martin, TN, has had some financial problems, and they are trying to rebuild. The state’s comptroller instructed the city to build its cash reserves and retire more debt over the next five years. Martin had $257,000 in its cash fund at the end of the 2025 fiscal year. By 2030, that cash fund should hold more than $2.7 million, according to the comptroller’s plan.
- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has received positive chronic wasting disease (CWD) test results in hunter-harvested deer in Dickson and Williamson counties, the first positive CWD case for both.

How’s the hill, weather report
Back to it, How’s the hill? Passable. Back to Warm’ish. The weather guessers are predicting highs in the 70s and 30s, with some rain on Sunday, and lows ranging from 62 to 18. Winter has checked out for a bit, I guess.
New Businesses
Nothing New was spotted. Ace Hardware is still brewing and making some progress. They have made a lot of progress outside. The property across from Carr Orthodontics finally has a For Sale sign on it, after months of clearing and leveling. Other than that, I spotted nothing new this week, and I'm waiting to see what else is coming. There are still a couple of properties for sale around the area. Still the same 3 properties listed for sale.

Farmers Market
Make sure to head to the Farmers Market every Saturday Morning, 8 AM to 12 PM (Not Earlier, as other posts have posted) at Meseck Chiropractor and Fairview Fresh Deli for their life-changing Apple Fritters, located down the road from Publix. There are so many good places to get breads and treats, local beef and pork, local fruits, and vegetables, along with some hot sauce, fishing lures, and other holiday gifts this time of the year.
Brick and Mortar Highlight
Goin Postal
This is our local shipping company, from FedEx to UPS, and USPS, where you can mail your things. They are also a place you can take your returns to if you choose Customer-Packed, where the label is printed. They also have many PO Boxes, so you can have your packages mailed there and stay safe from porch pirates. They also offer a lot of copy, print, and even fingerprinting for many types of applications. They are also a huge supporter of our community, sponsoring many things around town. This is Mayor Lisa Anderson's business, and her daughter, Chelsea, is typically there and is the best.

History Nugget
Some Christmas Holiday History
In Roman Times, Beginning in the week leading up to the winter solstice and continuing for a whole month, Saturnalia was a hedonistic time, when food and drink were plentiful, and the standard Roman social order was turned upside down. For a month, enslaved people were given temporary freedom and treated as equals. Businesses and schools were closed so that everyone could participate in the holiday’s festivities.
In the early years of Christianity, Easter was the main holiday. The first recorded Christmas celebrating the birth of Jesus is often cited as A.D. 336; however, some historical evidence suggests the observance dates back to the second century. Certainly, by the fourth century, church officials had decided to institute the birth of Jesus as a holiday. Yet, the Bible does not mention a date for his birth (a fact Puritans later pointed out to deny the legitimacy of the celebration).
Pope Julius I chose December 25. It is commonly believed that the church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions of the pagan Saturnalia festival. First called the Feast of the Nativity, the custom spread to Egypt by 432 and to England by the end of the sixth century.
The Pilgrims, English separatists who came to America in 1620, were even more orthodox in their Puritan beliefs than Cromwell. As a result, Christmas was not a holiday in early America. From 1659 to 1681, the celebration of Christmas was actually outlawed in Boston. Anyone exhibiting the Christmas spirit was fined 5 shillings. By contrast, in the Jamestown settlement, Captain John Smith reported that Christmas was enjoyed by all and passed without incident.
After the American Revolution, English customs fell out of favor, including Christmas. In fact, Christmas wasn’t declared a federal holiday in the United States until June 26, 1870.
English author Charles Dickens created the classic holiday tale, A Christmas Carol. The story’s message about the importance of charity and goodwill toward all humankind struck a powerful chord in the United States and England. It showed members of Victorian society the benefits of celebrating the holiday.
The legend of Santa Claus can be traced back to a monk named St. Nicholas, who was born in Turkey around A.D. 280. St. Nicholas gave away all of his inherited wealth and traveled the countryside helping the poor and sick, becoming known as the protector of children and sailors.
St. Nicholas first entered American popular culture in the late 18th century in New York, when Dutch families gathered to honor the anniversary of the death of “Sint Nikolaas” (Dutch for Saint Nicholas), or “Sinter Klaas” for short. “Santa Claus” draws his name from this nickname.
- Each year, 25 million to 30 million real Christmas trees are sold in the United States alone. There are about 15,000 Christmas tree farms in the United States, and it usually takes between four and 15 years for trees to grow tall enough for sale.
- When Christmas was cancelled: From 1659 to 1681, the celebration of Christmas was outlawed in Boston, and lawbreakers were fined 5 shillings.
- The first eggnog made in the United States was consumed in Captain John Smith’s 1607 Jamestown settlement.
- Poinsettia plants are named after Joel R. Poinsett, an American minister to Mexico, who brought the red-and-green plant from Mexico to America in 1828.
- The Salvation Army has been sending Santa Claus–clad donation collectors into the streets since the 1890s.
- Rudolph, “the most famous reindeer of all,” was the product of Robert L. May’s imagination in 1939. The copywriter wrote a poem about the reindeer to help lure customers into the Montgomery Ward department store. The retailer gave away 2.4 million copies that year.
- Construction workers started the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree tradition in 1931.

Donations
On the Donations front, nothing new from Fountain. We will have other payment options soon, just waiting for the tax man stuff to finish. We covered Fountain and Stripe Setup in the last episode, so a Donate button lets you use your Credit Card and other Payment methods through Stripe.

You are not the product because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value.

Some shows will be longer, others will be shorter, but I do my best to always keep things relevant.
12
00:01:06,000 --> 00:01:06,720
Traffic time.
13
00:01:07,320 --> 00:01:08,020
Normal busy.
14
00:01:08,380 --> 00:01:12,100
You can still wait around two to five minutes to make a left turn in the morning and afternoon.
15
00:01:13,060 --> 00:01:15,380
Cumberland and 100 is still getting some regular work.
16
00:01:15,460 --> 00:01:16,920
They paused just a couple days ago.
17
00:01:18,000 --> 00:01:23,080
They're still building the culverts on the east and westbound side to prepare for widening the road.
18
00:01:23,820 --> 00:01:29,100
They've had some steel plates that had to be pulled up on the eastbound side of the intersection as they became loose.
19
00:01:29,640 --> 00:01:34,280
And people were swerving into the oncoming lane to not run over the metal plates.
20
00:01:35,200 --> 00:01:39,100
We are less than one year out from that being done.
21
00:01:39,700 --> 00:01:40,520
Red light update.
22
00:01:40,520 --> 00:01:44,100
We still have three red lights, Old Cox, Publix, and Walmart.
23
00:01:44,800 --> 00:01:52,780
Still, we'll be getting one eventually at City Center entrance and the Cumberland 100 intersection when that expansion occurs.
24
00:01:53,080 --> 00:02:02,220
I don't know how either one of these is going to help or if it's going to hurt, but I hope the crossing guard can control the one, especially the couple in the 100.
25
00:02:03,020 --> 00:02:15,760
City center, traffic closures may still happen periodically if they are doing drainage and grading and all that, but they haven't done a lot after they've mocked up the roads where it looked like they were getting ready to pave it over there.
26
00:02:15,760 --> 00:02:22,360
were growing. The city fire department had three calls on the 21st, one on I-40,
27
00:02:22,940 --> 00:02:27,980
a field on Hurley Lane, and then back there on Hurley Lane when a structure started catching fire.
28
00:02:29,200 --> 00:02:37,180
December 26th and 27th, around 7710 Chester Road will be closed. There's a new three-way
29
00:02:37,180 --> 00:02:43,600
stop that's been installed at the intersection of Jones Lane and Old National Road.
30
00:02:43,600 --> 00:02:50,920
other city news is still the last call for your picket fence order at buoy nature park playground
31
00:02:50,920 --> 00:02:56,300
about ordering these personalized gifts you've got till december 31st so just a week or so
32
00:02:56,300 --> 00:03:04,400
and then kind of mark your little spot forever we've seen teams non-profits families dedications
33
00:03:04,400 --> 00:03:10,720
to pets families family members everything between there and we still have the news in
34
00:03:10,720 --> 00:03:16,820
all the links in the show notes now for the chipper and leaf seasonal schedule. That chipper
35
00:03:16,820 --> 00:03:23,240
service runs the first Tuesday in April to the fourth Tuesday there. So that's done. And leaf
36
00:03:23,240 --> 00:03:29,360
removal started in the first Tuesday in November and runs to the fourth Tuesday in March. There's
37
00:03:29,360 --> 00:03:32,880
four separate zones. There's a map on the show notes, so you can figure that out.
38
00:03:32,880 --> 00:03:42,400
uh homes for sale we have 214 homes for sale down five from last week the same highs and lows we
39
00:03:42,400 --> 00:03:52,320
have a 3.495 million dollar house with 70 acres and we have a 250 000 townhome with no acres
40
00:03:52,320 --> 00:04:00,360
as our highest and lowest thing for sale right now town meeting updates well since last week
41
00:04:00,360 --> 00:04:06,020
there hasn't been any new board of zoning planning commission board of commissioners
42
00:04:06,020 --> 00:04:12,440
board of commissioners town hall park and landscape board around town coffee or the beer board so we're
43
00:04:12,440 --> 00:04:18,900

48
00:04:44,660 --> 00:04:53,320
but left out uh lee beeman uh so he'll have to get a new nomination there was a lot of controversy
49
00:04:53,320 --> 00:04:59,180
going out around there um so we'll go there martin tennessee has had some financial problems
50
00:04:59,180 --> 00:05:11,702
and they still trying to rebuild The state comptroller instructed the city to build a cash reserve and retire more debt over the next five years Martin Tennessee has in its cash fund
51
00:05:12,262 --> 00:05:20,462
And at the end of 2025 this year, but by 2030, the cash fund should hold more than $2.7 million.
52
00:05:20,982 --> 00:05:26,442
This is relevant, I think, because the last episode or two episodes ago, when we talked about
53
00:05:26,442 --> 00:05:30,522
some of the city manager's report that was brought up that we've got a couple million dollars
54
00:05:30,522 --> 00:05:35,842
hanging out in there. So this is something for small towns you can get in trouble with.
55
00:05:35,842 --> 00:05:42,982
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has received positive chronic wasting disease test
56
00:05:42,982 --> 00:05:50,142
results and hunter harvested deer in Dixon and Williamson County. This is the first positive CWD
57
00:05:50,142 --> 00:05:58,162
case in for both the bills nothing's going on everyone's off for christmas how's the hill
58
00:05:58,162 --> 00:06:04,302
well uh it's passable we're back to warmish the weather guessers are predicting highs
59
00:06:04,302 --> 00:06:10,682
of the 70s dropping down to the 30s and some rain on sunday and the lows ranging from 62
60
00:06:10,682 --> 00:06:16,082
all the way down to 18 so winter has checked out and is i guess coming back
61
00:06:16,082 --> 00:06:22,302
businesses nothing new was spotted hay's hardware still brewing and make a lot of progress on the
62
00:06:22,302 --> 00:06:29,042
outside the property from car orthodontics has a for sale sign after months months of cleaning and
63
00:06:29,042 --> 00:06:34,302
leveling still have it found it on there for sale especially as commercial but i would guess that it
64
00:06:34,302 --> 00:06:39,402
is not commercial because it's going to have to get rezoned which will be approved because that's
65
00:06:39,402 --> 00:06:44,862
in the 2040 plan farmer's market make sure you head to the farmer's market every saturday morning

92
00:09:04,242 --> 00:09:12,842
here uh so we have definitely got to talk about christmas so christmas is uh we'll go from here
93
00:09:12,842 --> 00:09:19,022
there uh so in roman times beginning uh the week leading up to the winter solstice and continuing
94
00:09:19,022 --> 00:09:26,482
for the whole month was saturnala which is where they had food and drink and plentiful and the
95
00:09:26,482 --> 00:09:31,662
standard rome social order was turned upside down so for a pump for a month enslaved people were
96
00:09:31,662 --> 00:09:36,422
given temporary freedom and treated as equals, businesses and schools were closed so that
97
00:09:36,422 --> 00:09:39,342
everyone could participate in the holiday festivities.
98
00:09:39,982 --> 00:09:44,742
In the early years of Christianity, Easter was the main holiday.
99
00:09:45,342 --> 00:09:52,382
The first recorded celebration, the birth of Jesus, was also cited back in 336 AD.
100
00:09:53,102 --> 00:09:58,782
However, some historical evidence suggests that the observance dates go back to the second
101
00:09:58,782 --> 00:09:59,282
century.
102
00:09:59,922 --> 00:10:05,202
Certainly by the 4th century, church officials had decided to institute the birth of Jesus as a holiday.
103
00:10:05,802 --> 00:10:16,084
Yet the Bible does not mention the exact date for the birth a fact that Puritans later pointed out and deny the legitimacy of this whole celebration
104
00:10:17,424 --> 00:10:21,564
But then Pope Julius chose December 25th.
105
00:10:21,624 --> 00:10:29,464
It's commonly believed the church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions from the pagan Saturnalia festival.
106
00:10:29,464 --> 00:10:32,484
first called the Feast of the Nativity.
107
00:10:32,484 --> 00:10:37,624
The customs spread to Egypt by 432 and to England by the end of the 6th century.
108
00:10:38,364 --> 00:10:42,964
The pilgrims, English shepherdess who came to America around 1620,
109
00:10:43,644 --> 00:10:49,124
were even more orthodox than their Puritan beliefs than Cromwell.
110
00:10:49,424 --> 00:10:54,664
As a result, Christmas was not a holiday in early America from 1659 to 1681.
111
00:10:54,664 --> 00:10:59,724
the celebration of Christmas was actually outlawed in Boston for a period of time.
112
00:11:00,384 --> 00:11:04,664
Anyone exhibiting the Christmas spirit was fined five shillings.
113
00:11:05,704 --> 00:11:07,804
By contrast, in the Jamestown settlement,
114
00:11:07,984 --> 00:11:13,904
Captain John Smith reported that Christmas was enjoyed by all and passed without incident.
115
00:11:16,184 --> 00:11:22,484
After the American Revolution, English customs felt out of favor, including Christmas.
116
00:11:22,484 --> 00:11:29,044
In fact, Christmas wasn't declared a federal holiday until June 26, 1870.
117
00:11:29,724 --> 00:11:33,984
The English author Charles Dickens created that holiday tale, The Christmas Carol.
118
00:11:34,224 --> 00:11:39,064
The story stuck the message of importance of charity, goodwill to all humankind.
119
00:11:39,204 --> 00:11:41,524
It struck a powerful chord in the United States and England.
120
00:11:42,064 --> 00:11:46,824
It showed members of the Victorian society the benefits of celebrating this holiday.
121
00:11:46,824 --> 00:11:53,284
then we get into the whole legend of santa claus which can be traced back to a monk named
122
00:11:53,284 --> 00:11:59,924
saint nicholas who was born in turkey around 280 ad saint nicholas gave away all his inherited
123
00:11:59,924 --> 00:12:04,844
wealth and traveled the countryside helping the poor and sick becoming known as the protector of
124
00:12:04,844 --> 00:12:12,284
children and sailors saint nicholas first entered american pop culture in the late 18th century in
125
00:12:12,284 --> 00:12:19,524
New York when a Dutch family is gathered to honor the anniversary of the death of St. Nicholas,
126
00:12:19,744 --> 00:12:25,004
Dutch for St. Nicholas, or Sinterklaas for short, and then Santa Claus, which draws on the name of
127
00:12:25,004 --> 00:12:31,184
that nickname. A couple facts. Each year, about 25 to 30 million Christmas trees are sold in the
128
00:12:31,184 --> 00:12:36,704
United States. There are about 15,000 Christmas tree farms in the United States, and it usually
129
00:12:36,704 --> 00:12:44,324
takes anywhere from four to 15 years to grow a Christmas tree. Christmas was canceled from 1659
130
00:12:44,324 --> 00:12:50,924
to 1681. That was in Boston. The first eggnog supposedly was made in the Jamestown settlement
131
00:12:50,924 --> 00:13:00,464
by Captain John Smith in 1607. Poinsettia plants are named after Joel R. Poinsett, an American
132
00:13:00,464 --> 00:13:06,224
minister to Mexico, who brought the red and green plant from Mexico to America in 1828.
133
00:13:06,704 --> 00:13:14,764
The Salvation Army has been sending Santa Claus-clad donation collectors in the street since the 1890s.
134
00:13:15,264 --> 00:13:21,124
Rudolph, the most famous reindeer of all, was the product of Robert L. May's imagination in 1939.
135
00:13:21,124 --> 00:13:27,864
The copywriter wrote a poem about the reindeer to help lure customers to Montgomery Ward department stores.
136
00:13:28,384 --> 00:13:32,624
The retailer gave away 2.4 million copies of that that year.
137
00:13:32,624 --> 00:13:39,544
construction workers are also who started the rockefeller center christmas tree foundation
138
00:13:39,544 --> 00:13:48,004
tradition back in 1931 upcoming events uh well definitely no recap for anything last week uh
139
00:13:48,004 --> 00:13:53,504

140
00:13:53,504 --> 00:13:58,924

143
00:14:05,404 --> 00:14:06,024
and many others.
144
00:14:06,504 --> 00:14:10,964
There's a thriving Girl Scouts and Scouts BSA program here in Fairview.
145
00:14:11,264 --> 00:14:15,304
If you have any homeschoolers, always make sure you check out Bowie Park for the scheduled
146
00:14:15,304 --> 00:14:16,624

If you have kids that are interested in dance, gymnastics, or cheer, please reach out to
148
00:14:21,244 --> 00:14:23,984

And the Fairview Youth Jacket Wrestling Program
152
00:14:32,984 --> 00:14:35,424

153
00:14:35,424 --> 00:14:36,764
that have come from that program.
154
00:14:37,164 --> 00:14:39,204
And it also has some summer care options
155
00:14:39,204 --> 00:14:40,524
if your kid wants to try it out.
156
00:14:41,344 --> 00:14:45,224
School news, well, it is Christmas break week for them.
157
00:14:45,344 --> 00:14:48,904
So there is nothing going on there.
158
00:14:49,684 --> 00:14:54,644

162
00:15:09,704 --> 00:15:10,744

165
00:15:28,666 --> 00:15:30,906

171
00:16:02,046 --> 00:16:05,746
have a student that's getting ready to drive, obviously there's a couple things you can go from
172
00:16:05,746 --> 00:16:12,686
there. Faith moment. Well, this week I cannot do anything other than, you know, I think listen to
173
00:16:12,686 --> 00:16:19,986
Luke chapter 2 verse 1 through 20 as it relates to the Christmas story. So here we go. This is
174
00:16:19,986 --> 00:16:25,386
narrated by Dr. David Jeremiah. And here we go.
175
00:16:25,386 --> 00:16:35,586
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that
176
00:16:35,586 --> 00:16:38,886
all the world should be registered.
177
00:16:38,886 --> 00:16:44,546
This census first took place when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
178
00:16:44,546 --> 00:16:50,726
So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
179
00:16:50,726 --> 00:16:58,006
also went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth unto Judea to the city of David,
180
00:16:58,006 --> 00:17:04,566
which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered
181
00:17:04,566 --> 00:17:10,486
with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
182
00:17:10,486 --> 00:17:16,366
So it was that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
183
00:17:16,366 --> 00:17:22,626
And she brought forth her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in
184
00:17:22,626 --> 00:17:27,186
a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
185
00:17:27,186 --> 00:17:32,746
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over
186
00:17:32,746 --> 00:17:34,766
their flock by night.
187
00:17:34,766 --> 00:17:40,646
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around
188
00:17:40,646 --> 00:17:44,266
them, and they were greatly afraid.
189
00:17:44,266 --> 00:17:51,466
Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great
190
00:17:51,466 --> 00:17:55,086
joy which shall be to all people.
191
00:17:55,086 --> 00:18:01,406
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord,
192
00:18:01,406 --> 00:18:03,926
and this will be a sign unto you.
193
00:18:03,926 --> 00:18:10,066
You will find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
194
00:18:10,066 --> 00:18:17,066
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
195
00:18:17,066 --> 00:18:24,266
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.
196
00:18:24,266 --> 00:18:28,926
So it was when the angels had gone away from them into heaven that the shepherds said to
197
00:18:28,926 --> 00:18:35,726
one another, Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which
198
00:18:35,726 --> 00:18:39,086
the Lord has made known to us.
199
00:18:39,086 --> 00:18:45,266
They came with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the babe lying in a manger.
200
00:18:45,266 --> 00:18:49,766
And when they had seen him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning
201
00:18:49,766 --> 00:18:51,286
this child.
202
00:18:51,286 --> 00:18:56,746
And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
203
00:18:56,746 --> 00:19:02,606
But Mary, she kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
204
00:19:02,606 --> 00:19:08,186
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had
205
00:19:08,186 --> 00:19:11,606
heard and seen as it was told to them.
206
