Spring is Rolling”

Spring is Rolling”

Welcome to Episode 31 of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview, TN, and the surrounding areas.  This is a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and inspire.  Local Radio stations and newspapers don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.  This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive.  This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, over 18 years ago.

Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please don't hesitate to let me know.  Use the contact form on the website, and we will work to get updates into the next episode.  You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for their value.  Some shows will be longer, others shorter, and I'll keep things relevant.

Traffic Time

Construction Busy, where you can wait 5-20 minutes in the morning and the afternoon to make a left and sometimes a right turn on 100 from Old Cox to the Rec Center.  The sidewalk project is from Bowie Park to the Rec Center.  There have also been lane closures that caused serious backups here and there.  The road closures have also been further down towards the Rec Center and School as those drains are installed, there was even a double closure yesterday with one lane closed near the rec center and one lane closed near the gas station.  There have been a lot of problems with school pickup times, as they are not done before 230, when things start getting busy.  It’s truly Luck of the draw if there is a lane closure each day on 100, good luck!

Redlight Update – We currently still have five (Old Cox, Publix, Walmart, 2 at I-40). Still, we will soon be getting one at the new City Center Entrance and at the Cumberland and 100 intersections when that expansion occurs.  I’m not sure how it will help or hurt yet, but I hope the crossing guard can manage it during the morning and evening school rush hours.

City Center – They are digging over there again near the road, which appears to still be some utility work, and with the mountain of fill dirt in the back, it will be a while before we see something cool happen.

We’re Growing

The State of TN (Not In Order)

1.        Tennessee lawmakers overwhelmingly passed legislation banning a pharmacy from owning a pharmacy benefit manager, PBM, effectively targeting one of the largest healthcare conglomerates in the country.  CVS Health is the only company in Tennessee that owns a pharmacy and PBM, which is a middleman used by insurance companies to negotiate drug prices with pharmacies.

2.        The Memphis-Shelby County school board voted unanimously Tuesday night to hire a lawyer to challenge the state takeover legislation Tennessee Republicans finalized yesterday

3.     Tennessee lawmakers passed their second bill in three years to unwind part of the state’s hospital competition law, this time removing restrictions related to hospitals designed for short-term care. Starting in July 2028, new acute care hospitals will no longer be required to go before the state’s healthcare facility commission to receive a certificate of need, CON, before opening. The move follows a multi-year effort to remove aspects of Tennessee’s CON law, which required healthcare providers to show community need before establishing or expanding certain healthcare services. Lawmakers first reformed the CON law in 2016, and in 2024, a working group released a report on its impact and recommendations for new areas to repeal.

4.        Governor Lee, on April 21, signed into law a bill criminalizing an immigrant's presence in Tennessee if a final deportation order has been issued. Immigrants found in Tennessee 90 days after a judge orders them to leave the country could face state-level criminal charges once the bill takes effect on July 1. HB 1705  https://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default?BillNumber=HB1705&ga=114

5.     The Federal Aviation Administration said it's investigating an extremely close call between two Southwest Airlines flights at Nashville International Airport.  At their closest point, the planes were right on top of one another, with the vertical separation between the two planes at just 500 feet, according to FlightRadar24

The Bills

All House Session Senate Stuff is busy

General Session Notes for today the 22nd of April

Finalization of the General Appropriations Act: The committee finalized the state's budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which included roughly $59.5 billion in total spending. Key focuses were on TennCare growth, a 1.0 billion transfer to the Highway Fund, and significant investments in K-12 education (TISA funding formula).

Tax Exemptions and Relief: * HB 1530: Discussed exempting retail sales of food and food ingredients from state sales tax.

HB 1505: Proposed a sales tax holiday for firearms and ammunition (scheduled for July 2026).

HB 1687: Proposed increasing the property tax relief amount for disabled veteran homeowners (raising the cap from $175,000 to $200,000 of home value).

Infrastructure & Safety:

HB 1690: A proposal to significantly increase fees for failure to comply with auto insurance requirements (the James Lee Atwood Jr. Law).

HB 2606: Focused on requiring the TBI to establish a dedicated Cold Case Division.

Cryptocurrency Policy:

HB 1695 (The Tennessee Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act): While the Senate version (SB 2639) was active, the House committee discussed the fiscal implications of allowing the State Treasurer to invest up to 10% of the state’s general fund in Bitcoin.

This was posted on Fairview Then & Now, and I think it’s wild to see how much has changed in Fairview since 1998, as well as in our country and in pricing.  We will sprinkle a couple of pages of this Fact book and go back to our State History here and there.

Faith Moment

This week, we are back at our very own One Church Home with Ian Gilchrist, and this is just a couple of minutes from this “Jesus Over Everything” sermon.  I think this was good to hear about the Galatians.  I like the talk about his kids, who cannot pick something when there are too many choices, just like us as humans as a whole.

Welcome back, I hope you liked a couple of those verses and the overall message that we need more bible than opinions on so many things.  These were a couple of verses I had never heard spoken about, but it was good to hear Paul's direct feedback.

Donations

On the Donations front, nothing new from Fountain.  We will have other payment options soon; just waiting for the taxman stuff to finish. We covered Fountain and Stripe Setup in the last episode, so a Donate button lets you use your Credit Card and other Payment methods through Stripe.

A monthly Supporter option is available for just $3.50.  If you haven’t seen the website, please take a look. A lot has been added since last week, and I think you will find it helpful, including the calendar, Church and Business List, and more.  We will announce your first name or business name if you become a monthly supporter or make a donation of $19.59 or more, unless you include a note stating not to be anonymous (e.g., 'The year we were incorporated').  I hope some business people will support this to make it even better!  Be a producer, subscribe, and share with others about this Podcast to help get the news out to everyone in Fairview.  I need to catch up on social media to get the word out, but I’m prioritizing the website and payments first.
