EP1: "The First One"

EP1: "The First One"

This is the first episode.  Not Perfect, but lots of great Fairview, TN Information.

Howdy

Welcome to the First Episode of Hello Fairview, your local podcast made right here in Fairview, for people in Fairview and the surrounding areas.  This will be a weekly show, released every Wednesday, featuring stories that aim to inform and possibly inspire.  Local Radio stations don’t exist in small towns like ours, so we will use Hello Fairview to fill that void with news related to Fairview.  This is a Value for Value podcast, which means you contribute what you can based on the value you receive.  This concept was founded by the PodFather himself, Adam Curry, and his Co-host, John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, almost 18 years ago.

Currently, this is a one-man operation, so if you have any ideas, events, business opportunities, or job openings, please let me know.  You are a producer of this show; you are not the product, because your time and attention are not being sold to advertisers for value.  Some shows will be longer, and others will be shorter, but I will do my best to keep things relevant.

Growing Town Stuff

There were some new Board of Commissioners and Planning Commissioner meetings, which, in simple terms, approved more houses this week.  Big news is that the new City voted down a conditional use for a race track and retreat in the Fernvale area.

The Board of Commissioners meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month, typically at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.

This was a hot potato issue (Full House!!) regarding Mr. Walker Lunn is seeking approval of a conditional use permit for a Rural Retreat, owner Green Springs Prop, LLC  with Agricultural Use Area, Nature Trails, Vehicle Garage, Amphitheater, Clubhouse, Sporting Clay Course, Rifle Range, approximately 3 Mile Driving Course, Emergency Services Site, and less than or equal to 50 detached residential units.

The State of TN (Not In Order)

  1. National Guard Headed to Memphis (Some things have already started to get better there, with some crime rates already dropping ahead of their pending deployment in just a week or so)
  2. Nashville Airport is a hot mess, with some people on the 15th waiting 3-6 hours in traffic from I-40 to the terminal. People were walking in and out of the airport while ride-sharing prices surged to $200 based on the vast amount of time it was taking to go.  I know they are swapping the exit and entrance, but I think their plans may still be cursed because there aren’t dedicated lanes or loops for arrivals and departures. The more gates they add, the worse it will continue to get.
  3. Music City Loop has a hole in a parking lot, which to me I don’t see how this much money is about to be spent to have 3-4 people per car on a couple minute drive in the this tunnel instead of using the tunnel to put some real rail cars that can move thousands of people quickly instead of a hundred in an hour or so. This was just a party trick in Las Vegas, and it hasn’t had a significant impact on traffic and pedestrian movement around the Strip.
  4. Jeff Bivins was elected chief justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
  5. Governor Lee appointed Raymond Lepone to the Shelby County Court.
  6. Andy Holt will become Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture on October 1.

How’s the hill, weather report

How’s the hill?  It’s a popular question when it snows or storms in our area, and it's posted and reposted on the Facebook Group “Fairview Then & Now” about Highway 100 and the hill down towards the Natchez Trace Parkway.  If people are slipping and sliding and the ditches are getting full that way, you may want to stay home, is the basic gist of it.

Back to it, How’s the hill?  Passable with almost all clear skies with highs in the 90s and lows in the 60s and very little rain this week and next week, that’s at least what the “Weather Guessers have Guessed.”  A sprinkle of rain here and there, we still could use a little more regular rain because the grass is crunchy.

New Businesses

Elevate Gymnastics + Cheer was opened up last month.  Sherman Williams is open as of September 8th. Papa John’s is now open.  Ace Hardware is still brewing, and there are a couple of open spots in some of the shopping centers that we are waiting to see what gets filled.

Make sure to head to the Farmers Market every Saturday Morning at Meseck Chiropractor and Fairview Fresh Deli for their life-changing Apple Fritters, located down the road from Publix.  So many good places to get fresh food, fruits, and vegetables, along with some beef, hot sauce, fishing lures, and Peruvian items.

History Nugget

Fairview, Tennessee, has a rich history that predates its official incorporation in 1959. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Cherokee and Chickasaw, the area’s rolling hills and dense forests provided an abundant natural landscape. By the early 1800s, European settlers, primarily farmers and traders, began establishing homesteads, drawn by the fertile land and resources.

Before becoming Fairview, the area was known as Christina and later Jingo. The name Fairview was chosen in 1937, inspired by the scenic beauty of the land. Agriculture and the timber industry played a significant role in the town’s early development, shaping a close-knit community that valued both its rural traditions and progress.

Faith Moment

With this being the first of many moments to come, I dedicate this first one to Adam Curry and his wife, Tina, for publicly embracing their faith in Christ. They convinced Pastor Jimmy and Annette Pruitt to start their podcast, “Living up in a Down World,” which explored their faith journey, including both the good and the bad.  What I learned from the four of them, with Adam and Tina being relatively new to the Christ journey, and Jimmy and Annette, who have been on their journey for over 30 years, is that no one is perfect, but we can strive to live a Christ-like life.  The stories from these two couples, with their distinct Christ experiences and life experiences, helped me get back in the saddle after being away for over 10 years.  Finding your faith will be different for everyone, but I’m so happy mine happened as it did, and it’s now rolling along with something like this podcast.  I also thank some adult Scout leaders who mentioned that they went to One Church Home because it has become my family's home, and we love the work they have done and are doing, and Ian Gilchrist and team were the perfect people I needed to restart my faith engine.

Special Faith Moment

7 Days ago, from this recording, Charlie Kirk was assassinated.  I had been watching Turning Point USA and what they had been doing for over a decade, and I was impressed with their Faith First delivery.  Faith and Christ were the fire that ignited in Charlie and his team, motivating them to do what they did and continue to do.  He used what he learned from reading everything he could about Faith and History to build a worldview based on the truth from the Bible, science, and history, which informed his responses to questions and his own inquiries.  It was amazing to learn so much from him over the years, and he would often encourage me to look things up in the Bible and online to see for myself and read a little deeper, which helped rekindle the fire within me.  This was someone I felt like I knew from watching and learning from him for so long, and to see him shot and die was when I said I needed to do my part.  My part may not be significant in the grand scheme of things, but I want to do what I can for God, My Family, and my town through this podcast and the opportunities it will create.  There will be Christian music on here, making it our little hometown radio station, by us and for us.   Perhaps these Faith Moments will inspire someone else to visit one of the many churches in our town or elsewhere and help them with the struggles they face in their life.
